So, my next objective is to do a re-read through of the CJ and friends stories. I shall, of course, be grading according to the Cambridge University criteria of Content, Communicative achievement, Organisation, and Language….. which is how I spend my life here!! Seriously, I thing Carlos will get a pass for effort alone, 🥵would love to share a few chps with my students…. Perhaps not. A colleague was sacked today with no warning. God know what his crime was…
I’m an addict, but also a fussy devil, of short, complete stories, and this is simply delightful. Well done to the author and now I have a new writer to explore. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Very well put. How many stories have we read where the dialogue just doesn’t seem to be natural or flow with ease, despite great plot and solid characters? Carlos certainly doesn’t have that difficulty!!!
“Love means……. Coping when your partner is ill”
a great gem. I’m amazing how much detail is contained in this author’s tales. Not a word or phrase is redundant. I’m in awe of the writing skills.
delightful, truly delightful.
Another 5* read from a very talented writer.
As the housemouse said….. well-worth a hug
ps in the UK (I don’t know if elsewhere), there is a saying: women get colds, men have flu. A bit of true in it!,,
Cutey views hotty from a gap in the fence. Will cutey have the guts to approach? Meanwhile pushy is doing her best.
A lovely little jewel. So nice to re@d. Well-written, as you would expect from this excellent author. Easily a 5* anthology piece.
enjoy it, I and others have
Yep! I’ve been lucky at work in Spain, out to bosses, some have met Paco, the problem is immature kids and, can I say it, ultra right wing parents. My British degrees aren’t accepted here so had to work in private sector.
any chance of seeing the abuelo and his restaurant? I need to incorporate Cuban cuisine into my limited culinary skills.
I also count days in GA. Almost at 5 yrs of fabulous reading. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
I read one or two of his works in the 90s. He was quite popular. His writing abilities raise him above the typical stuff that was around then. I love your comment about being able to avoid projecting modern concepts on to characters in the past. Really thoughtful. Thanks for the review.
Had the pleasure of living in Rome decades ago, near French embassy- sounds posh, it wasn’t. I lived over a motorbike repair shop where they never had siestas! Great times
Good memory Daddy d! Officially, it’s one year, two months, 10 days and 8 hours to go….. Howver, they are tempting me with a nice offer to complete the school year…… I find now I just don’t care as much as I did about being discrete!
Relief is the forbidden emotion when a long term ill parent or partner dies. But we feel what we feel. A wonderful 1000 words. Read it, feel it and reflect. This author is seriously good.
Relief - the “forbidden” emotion. My mother survived for five weeks after experts said she would be dead that night. Five weeks on sips of water and no food, she didn’t want food. This story is a little gem giving us permission to feel….. whatever. 🙏
This is a short story. Translated into English beautifully by the Italian author. Italian, or Sardinian, colours are rendered so well. Worthy of being in an anthology, in my opinion. 👏
I loved this. I didn’t get the dialect comment. There were a couple of odd translations but bravo, your English is way better than my Spanish after 20 yrs here!
one little, or not!, error: “. “Bird” is never a translation for penis in English, although in Spanish, yes, or at least “little birds”, pararito.
but, to repeat, I love this. Thanks 🙏
Wow, this hit all the buttons for me - Wagner is my favourite composer, Parsifal is my Desert Island disc, I have visited Ravello and stayed in a hotel overlooking Klingsors Magic Garden. An orgy of memories, here. However, this just gave me a nice feeling, what really moved me is the wonderful quality of the writing. I’m hooked, totally.
Its 05.45. I have to get up and can’t dare turn the page to next installment.
this is ace, thank you 🙏
