  1. Like a phoenix arising from the ashes of a disaster, Woodrow moves forward with hope. This is one of the best pieces of an outstanding anthology. I strongly recommend it, and as another reviewer says, if you aren’t aware of Headstall’s other writings, get started. a 5* read which has ideas and emotions floating around in my head.

  2. Totally agree with James. Beautifully written. A tale I shall return to. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
  3. This short tale is a reason why the anthology is so good. I never normally read fantasy stories. Wolves, mages etc., are not my thing. And yet, having committed myself to read and review every entry this year, I found this to be really good. The writing is excellent and the world we enter is intriguing. Already readers are asking for more, which is the best compliment possible. so, even if you aren’t really into medieval fantasy, try this and, like me, you may be in for a nice surprise wel done, author

  4. Already knowing the quality of Valkyries’s writing I had high expectations and they were met. I’ve just double checked the length - 5,000 - because it just flows so quickly and yet with time for the dramatic moments, and there are lots! another 5* work from this great writer. well done

  7. Wow! A follow up. Thank you!,,
  8. I keep scrolling through hoping to find one I missed….. still, roll on Thursday if there are more? Please
  9. Another gem from Aditus. Zane has arrived at a crunch time - continue with his black and white life or enter the rainbow-flagged bay and start to live. The final text messages are a delight. great writing, as usual, from a star writer.

  10. I read this a while ago and have returned. It is well-worth the visit. In the midst of an awful job - under-valued, over-stressed and, of course lousy pay - we watch a man as a bit of light, hope and future enters his life. a great read.

  11. A little jewel of a story. Read it slowly and appreciate the fine writing. So much is packed into a thousand words. This merits its place in the anthology without a doubt.

    The Perfect Car

What the man said! Well done 🤩 (when we left Manchester we lived near the Park and Beacon Hill in late sixties - so more nostalgia for me)

    Dates

A perfect place to see it! After 20 yrs here in Valencia, and with a distant view of the Med from our balcony, I still never tire of capturing so many different shades of blue, aquamarine etc.as we walk on the seafront throughout the different seasons - high Summer excluded!! keep writing!
  15. Great read, great characterisation, great job!

    My story

For me GA kept me sane during so many bouts of ill health, even now I’ve got a broken wrist - my attempt to fly over the school playground ended in disaster. Seriously, this short work has got old and young inspired. And Carlos H hasn’t done a bad job either. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

    Chapter 1

Totally agree but I would ask those who read this tale to know/remember that the British police continued entrapment in public toilets until the late eighties or early nineties. A QC (now KC) * I knew was trapped in the public toilets in Trafagar Square. Fortunately the magistrate threw the case out without a word. A brilliant legal career was in danger for looking at a dick** flashing his dick. * Queen’s Counsel = senior lawyer (letrado) who can appear before a superior court judge ** dick in UK at least = police officer and also idiot… fits I think
  18. An excellent post war historical piece. It covers a lifestyle that young gays nowadays enjoying pubs and clubs in London or elsewhere could hardly imagine. I can only remover the later years before things improved but here in this heart wrenching tale you can see how things were in black and white. well done and thank you Dodger 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

    Chapter 1

I was 10 when the Act was passed but it’s important to remember that only certain things were decriminalised: over 21, only two people and in private ie a house/flat. A Hall of residence didn’t count so a decade later at university it was still illegal in so many ways. Police entrapment continued for years. A great piece mr D. Thank you as always
  20. A great writer offers us “my story” in just over a thousand densely-packed words. As with his stories, Northie makes us think and reflect in this case of our identity as well as his journey. He pays a heartfelt tribute to GA which I, for one, share 100%

    My story

Thank you for this thoughtful and thought-provoking writing. I agree with AlexL, I’m fine at writing articles, coursework etc but fiction seems a bit beyond my safety zone. On a deeper note, much of what you write here, and in your excellent stories, resonates so much with me, a northern lad, too, who knew, but feared, what he was. growing up in an all boys grammar in the 70’s. And then the religious guilt. I came out on my 21st birthday to friends but way later to family. And then one night I struck gold. Half-drunk I noticed a pair of eyes watching me across the bar. That was 23 years ago. A one night stand that turned into forever. The label has no fear attached now. keep writing, please and thank you
  22. Do NOT read unless you are willing to be moved emotionally in different directions. These short verses are powerfully written by Aditus, well up to the high standard we expect. if you have come across this review by chance and haven’t thought of trying the poetry on this site then please try. I have found it very fulfilling, stimulating and, at times, very moving. Hopefully that is what Aditus wants.

The power of memory and those echoes from the past. Those firsts, where, when, what happened, how did I, they feel. This is a really excellent piece of verse.
