  1. His range is incredible but sometimes he misses the target. 2024 The room next door is a masterpiece, second only to Volver. This latest one was really hard to ‘get’ but solid. The fireman working as a stripper certainly added something for @Robert Hugill to think about as a character!
  2. We watched his latest film last night. Not as good as his wonderful last one.
  3. but your illustrations are full of hair! I think I believe you but I hope I won’t have my trust in you destroyed as others did to me last year when I believed everything they said!

    Chapter 15

I feel a bit out of it reading the comments. I thought it was appalling. Utterly awful. great writing, of course, but I feel that schools today all over the place are no better, if not worse, than 50+ years ago when I had the shouts of poofter echoing behind me. And here in Spain my female ex colleagues all say that respect for women is less now than when they were young. Legal rights, sadly, do not equal social respect.
  5. Spot on! Swap the vodka for a glass of chilled white, in my case. Or two! Hic hic
  6. Fascinating relationship is being developed. Neil certainly keeps Alex on his toes. Slightly weird chp for me, personally, I’ve never ever been to IKEA, nor eaten a kebab, nor drunk a pint of beer, and yet these characters seem totally real to me. part of Robert’s skill, I think. 🤔
  7. I was there in 1985 desperately tracking down a missing manuscript from 850 ad. The library officials found it stuffed into a box in an office! The city was so amazingly clean and smart compared to Oxford and huge Mercedes and BMWs abounded. Also visited Dachau concentration camp in the suburbs. If I’m brave enough I might try to write a story about it. To be fair the the tourist office it was they who recommended the visit. Kudos to them.
  8. To come from a master of English prose, that means a lot, thank you. 🤗
  9. Thank you both x
  10. A wonderful post! Spot on. Thanks and well done
  11. Oh yes, I have this 12” vinyl in the attic in Uk! Great pick up song in 80’s Oxford!!!
  12. I groaned, lifted my head and groaned again, but this time my body gave me a warning, and I somehow got to the bathroom just in time. No details, required. Two weeks ago, Gerardo, or rather Lieutenant Cortés as he now was, had left a message: ‘number five on your list’. We had decided, however, to do nothing until my exams were over. God, he was stricter than the Goblin himself, my awful tutor. He was right, though, I needed to keep my father, and if possible, my mother, onside and some go
  13. Tomorrow you will get the epilogue and find out who is the traitor….. there is also the smell of Chanel number 5 which means Ximo’s mother will make an appearance……
  14. A lovely chp to start the Spring Break. I do hope that @Mark Arbour gets a good holiday and comes back filled with ideas inspired by the sea…. Hint hint 🤗
  15. Yes. He left the music world and went to my old college King’s College London. Got a first in theology, toyed with Roman Catholic priesthood and then elected for the Anglican Church. A good man.
  16. God, this was a great read. Enjoy!
  17. And now my pop claim to fame: I knew Richard Cole of the Communards and dined with him at his Club in the 90’s. If only it were Jimmy Summerville!
  18. I had never heard of Paul Lekakis before and, innocently, clicked the play on Boom Boom. I shall need a few hours of Wagner to smooth my ears. As a punishment for @Summerabbacat I thought of setting the end of Ximo’s story with him taking Gerardo to Parsifal….. but then Ximo might lose the lover and @Summerabbacat might block me!
  19. I really messed up last yr because I was scammed on a booking.com reservation- nearly 1,000$ - with my Mastercard, in a panic cancelled/bank recalled all other payments including GA. Thankfully, Myr was really helpful and v understanding. Another reason why I love this site.

    Throuple

My god @methodwriter85 I actually know two of your recommended songs!
  21. @Myr you have opened a rich vein of comments. I always imagined you were one of @Mark Arbour's millionaires and this was an amusing hobby! Seriously, the work that you and your team does has a huge impact not only for the regulars but for those who have to scrub their search history after reading. The news about revenues was worrying. It's time for those of us who can to support the site. A heartfelt thank you to you all.
  22. Not sure how I found it but started to read @Mark Arbour around 2015. Then during a long illness I decided to join as a member. Why stay? The late, great Carlos H encouraged me, and many others, to just jump in and write. Although I’ve had a couple of people sending me or posting really horrible messages, I just put that down to experience. overall, I feel v supported and appreciated on this site… thank you all.
  23. And how good for the rest of us! 😀
  24. I suspect that the pilgrims and others took "Fall" with them. I was fascinated to find this out. ps your favourite marquesa will be making a final appearance next week! I await your comments.......
