    Chapter 23

You are most likely right. Guess you can tell I am not in that social circle. Once was but not any more. Times do change. Bob Dylan was right 50 years ago.

    Chapter 23

It is interesting how the positions seemed to have switched. Now Jackson doesn’t know. After the last chapter and the first part of this one I really felt that Jackson had made the right decision to drop Carter, back away, too much drama. I don’t really see any less drama, but the unsure person seems to have switched. The title of the story is “How I Got Carter” so I guess inevitably things will work out. I am just not sure if in real life anyone would put up with all the indecisions and drama.

    Chapter 24

Boy was there a lot in that chapter. I don’t know if I trust Carter yet. Yes he seems nice enough right now. The statement he broke up with Beth, not the other way around gives him some credit. If it had been her who called it quite then one could be suspicious of a rebound, but now not sure. Guess we will see where it goes. Carters coment and apparent willingness to dance out on the floor was a head scratcher as well as Ricky hauling Jackson back to the room. That says Ricky was told by Carter to bring him back. All very interesting.

    New Best Friend

Charolette seems like quite the lady. She is very in touch with all the guys feelings. I can understand why Arlie would say he’s not gay when he has been brain washed with how others feel about gays. I was glad to see he is curious. Dizzy again is amazing. Makes me wonder how much of the crazies is just for effect. Seems to be a tender soul. So much in this chapter I could write a chapter in comments. Great story, it is going to be so enjoyable watching it unfold.

    The New Kid

What a great chapter. It looks like his uncle is a really nice guy, great personality. To make friends that fast at school suggests Artie has a good personality as well. Dizzy is a character. In through the window, 🤭. Glad he got to explore some of the city on day one. For sure The Goldengate Bridge is a major landmark. Surfing on Saturday. That will be interesting for a Texan. Things seem to be off to a good start. Good friends, feeling good about your self, living in a loving household, all those things lead to a better recovery from a tragic event. I was just thinking his old school mates called him orphan Artie, his new ones seemed to welcome him with open arms. It seems he is in the right place now.
  6. It was very well done DK. I only mentioned the tense because while reading it I began getting the feeling the beautiful thoughts were being written about someone who was no longer around. A story could be written in the future tense and then it would all be, hopeful, a person telling what they hope they find. There is an English author that I like to read. He and I write each other from time to time. I know, because he has told me, that much of what he writes comes from his own life experiences, embellished. One of his best books, he used news events from the summer he was writing and sifted those into his story. It gave amazing life and reality to his story. He didn’t have to try and make things up, he just put his characters in the places where things were happening. There are probably hundreds of writers on this site. I have not read thing from all of them. I follow the people who write in a style Iike. Simple as that I like your style. I like how you present your ideas and I comment about the impact a story makes on me. I look forward to your next entry.
  7. I liked the story. I will be honest though I was a little scared as I was reading along. The past tense of the story left me in fear that the person the lovely words were said about died. I was glad that was not so. You put some real thought into it, or you were just telling us your story. 🙂

    Outcasts

I feel like running my hand across my forehead and going whoooosh!! Artie is on a plane and leaving town. What a hateful backwards place. There is no way kids should be making comments like orphan Artie. I hope like Artie that the boy never reproduces his negative spawn. The restaurant, they wouldn’t be getting a tip from me, maybe a note on a napkin but for sure no money. I had never thought about how in small towns you do run across the same 5 people over and over. Reputations, right or wrong, spread like wild fire. Well he is on his way to a beautiful city. I can’t help but think his life will be better.

    God Forsaken

Talk about hateful people. Those grandparents are the worst. Kicking out your own kids and then calling your daughter and grandchild whores and bastards. It seems anywhere would be better than to be with them. Glad Adam said yes. He seems to be a caring person. He traveled all the way to the funeral of his sister, surely realizing he would meet up with his parents. Interesting twist that the sister placed her son with a man she would not talk to Artie about.

    Peace

That was a great chapter. I am sorry that Owen didn’t come around, but so be it. Some people are just too bitter to come around. Spirit is the perfect name. With all of Riley’s dreams he almost lives in a spirit world. You have left the door unlocked for any further writing about Riley, of course we want to hear about the wedding, Carter and Riley’s life together. That is all for another day, a future writing project. I look forward to seeing your new story posted. What with the quality of your writing I am sure it will be good. Keep up the good writing.

    Enough

So many thing revealed and answered, great chapter. Riley is so fortunate to have a loving family, good friends and a real love in his life. Who would have thought Trey would have the answer to helping Riley out. Good things come in strange packages.
  13. The first story I read on this site was the original of all these follow ups. I read a lot, over time I have so many characters in my head, but your are the ones that come to mind. You make them real, you give them life. Life is love and life is hurt. That can not be helped, we are humans. There are so many things in this life that can take us out. You did an excellent job of making the hurt, the loss real, and at the same time show how a person can recover from a tragic loss. Keep writing, your followers enjoy what you have to say. Well written.

    I Believe

Great chapter. There were a lot of things that needed to be said and brought out. Glad their going to get the dogs. That will truly add another level of security.

    Riley's Shadow

Lots of stuff happening is this chapter. If it had been in real life my neck would be sore from looking back and forth at all the action. Eli was the perfect person right now. I am not sure Carter is comfortable. He will just need to watch a while longer and see if he has anything to worry about.
  16. Those of us who have been following this series of stories knew what was coming. You did a very good job of making it easier. I know it is only a story, but you do such a good job of developing the characters we become attached to them. I hope I never become so thick skinned I don’t shed a tear. Thanks for doing all this writing and keeping us reading.

    Chapter 22

I had so much hope the first half of this chapter. While Carter was out of the room, a thought came into my mind, can anyone find the mind switch on Jackson and turn it off, but by the end of the chapter I finally felt that Jackson really has figured it out. I know the name of the story is, “How I Got Carter” but right now I don’t even care if I ever see the name Carter in the story again. If this story were real, and sadly this scene has played out in many real peoples lives, I would just call it quits. Too much drama too much work on Jackson’s part to try and make it work.

    Relapse

Lots going on in this chapter. Even when people are as bad as Riley’s dad there is still a huge loss when they die, and then on top of that to think you might have been the cause for that death, no wonder Rikey fell into an emotional pit. Glad the people around him didn’t give up. Double thumbs up to Carter. The best thing that Riley did was to say he felt he need to go to Michigan, that way his dad knew what he could do to help. Eli was the ticket, poor Carter though. I am sure it will all work out.

    Sins

It is interesting the power of blood. You would think Riley would be just fine with his dad being taken out, but the power of blood kicks in and a person cares.

    Battle Scars

There have been so many unanswered questions along the way. Glad to see Riley open up a lot more in this chapter. I have seen the anger in other people when the are holding things in and really want to get them out. They are fighting with them selves and so don’t have the energy to deal with anyone else. Since so many people here sense an eminent ending to the story, it will be great to end on an upbeat.

    St. Carter

Glad the surgery is over, now for a perfect recovery. Wow, Carter got to stay over. Perfect time for a panic attack and Carter there to give ease.
  22. I totally understand wanting to make a living, and if writing is your passion then you need to focus on that which can earn you money. I do not know how much research you have done into book publishing. It may well be that you already have something lined up. I hope that if what you want to do is be an author, you will be able to make the right connections so that can happen. I have been reading an author who is located in London. His name is Anthony McDonald. If you don’t have anything lined up, you might consider looking up his writing and then find out what book publisher he uses. That might get you started in the right direction. I am glad to hear you are planning on writing some more on this story. I read enough and have enough imagination I could take the story in all kinds of directions. The fun is seeing what you do with it. 🙂
  23. I have been following you and read and enjoyed what you write. I am one of those people who tried to encourage you to take a single entry and turn it into an on going story. I think many of us are guilty of reading an entry, enjoying it and moving on. Your writing is good. Your insight into the dynamics of young guys falling in love is very real. I like your story line and the characters you develop. I would like to see this further developed into a full story. You introduced elements in this chapter that could give you a lot of writing material. You know what your time constraints are, and if you will have the time to keep going with it. It may be that people are busy right now and they are just not writing. Looking back on the quality of your story about Ross, I feel confident that even if you don’t get a lot of feed back right now, in the future you will be discovered by future readers and they will want to read the stories you have written. This thought comes to mind. If you have a story you want to write, than do it. If you write it, there will be people who will read it. Even if it is not right now, you will always have readers. You are a good writer.
  24. It will be interesting to see how all the relationships develop.
