I couldn't help but think of the song, "The Secret Service Makes Me Nervous," from the Broadway musical Mr President. The teenage daughter of the President laments that her dating life is in the toilet because she's under constant guard. Years ago , Steve Ford visited the gay bar I hung out in, accompanied by a Secret Service detail, and even if he were so inclined, who would have wanted to pick him up, only to be accompanied by an audience?

I am enjoying this immensely. If something like this happened to me, I would need a change of clothes immediately.

I think I can understand where these boys are coming from. When I was that age (long about 1968), being gay was something you did in secret. My parents warned me to stay away from a certain apartment in the complex, occupied by a couple of "hairdressers." I had my "special" friends, but there was no concept of being boyfriends, after all, two guys couldn't do that. "Friends With Benefits" may have been what it was, but we didn't have a term for it back then. Sixteen year old me was interested in having oral sex with my friends, but I never dreamed about falling in love, because that just wasn't done! Imagine my shock when, at age 19, I got kissed for the first time. Holy Toledo! I didn't even know two guys could, or would, kiss. These boys don't really know what love is, any more than a boy and girl of the same age. They want to see themselves as together til death them do part, but next year, it will be another boy, and then another, til love smacks them between the eyes.

So Jett accepted April as Theo in the end. Of course, we all knew he would in the end.

Somebody must have inexplicably moved their car from California to Washington state, since Crown Toyota is still in Ontario, California, although now it's owned by John Elway, whoever he is. I've lived in the Ontario/Upland area most of my life, and I've seen Crown move from Ontario to Upland, then back to Ontario at the start of the big Auto Center craze.

So you want me to blurt? Could Sabrina be Jay's mother?

I'm reading this during the great social distancing quarantine of 2020. I sure hope vending machine condoms were better in 1956 than they are today. A burst condom could mean an unexpected pregnancy.

I was fine with the cliffhanger as it was within the text of the story, but then you had to add that postscript. "some of you already know or suspect who she really is." My mind is racing, and I'm dying to blurt it out, but that would be unfair to the people who want to continue playing along at home.

Looks like I'm not the only one taken back to my first time. Turns out he was the Village Whore, but I have no regrets about who I gave it up to. Around town they called him PTM: Princess Tiny Meat.

Jett has been obsessing over Theo for years, and now he has April, who bears a striking resemblance (little wonder!). He believes he's over Theo, now that April is his, so, in a perfect world, he'll now have both halves of the cookie. Alas, this isn't a perfect world, so there will be some minor explosions as the two sides converge. Now, as to April telling Jett that the Z Brothers are looking for him, Jett already knows that and has tried to keep it from April, so now he'll probably try to lock him in the house until the brothers are both dead.

I went and Googled bone marrow transplant just to get a clearer understanding of what was involved for donor and patient, and, lo and behold! There was Robin and a doctor friend to explain it all.

That poor lady! She almost killed a boy, and it wasn't her fault at all. She must be a mess. I hope Jack has the decency to apologize to her for making this happen. As for Jimmy and Tyler, I hope this shook them up enough to knock some sense into them.

Surely we can avoid that cliche?

The moment Dr. Wellington identified herself as an oncologist my heart sank. The very suggestion that you or a loved one might have cancer is terrifying. I admit I was warned that this would be a hard chapter, and I tried to come up with alternatives to the cause of the upcoming turmoil, but, wow. This was a punch in the guts. I cried.

Look out, Dan! I remember what it's like to be a brand-new gay boy, and having some Lothario like Zane pursuing you can leave scars on your heart. Oh, to be young and naive again, but then again, maybe not.

I see Dan in a world of trouble. What started as a harmless flirtation led to a kiss, then that kiss got him thinking. Now he's crushing on April, but April isn't having any. And what with Zane "taking care" of him, poor Dan isn't going to know which way is up. Doing straight boys can be lots of fun as long as they don't get too involved. Then when they do, watch out!

Yes, I understand. April is a total coward, and I can relate to that. I've spent the last year locked in my room because I'm trying (without much success) to avoid conflict with my housemates. "Rip the bandage off already" is a nice concept, but it's easier said than done.
