Secret Author Stories Contest 2024 Talking Topic
Mancunian replied to Cia's topic in Stories Discussion Forum
I agree that it is hard-hitting, it is also a very moving story that leaves it's mark. -
This is a beautifully written, hard-hitting story of life, one which follows a very close friendship from birth to death. It leaves me wondering, was Carver always looking for that something more that we all crave? And not realising that he always had it with his friend, the unnamed narrator. This is a very well-written, moving story that I couldn't fail to love and happily recommend to all.

You know you have read something moving when the hairs on your arm stand on end, that is what this story did to me. A sad ending to the story of Carver who always appears to be looking for something more. I think Carver found it in his relationship with the nameless narrator but never acknowledged it until the end, but he also found something very close to it in Sam who he married and had a son with. This is a beautifully told story with a sad ending and a credit to the author for his/her/they skilful and creative writing, a story that will not be forgotten quickly.

Both Ricky and Joey have had sex outside of their relationship, and they both enjoyed what they did. It leaves two questions, will there be any guilty feelings and will this now become the norm for them? For some, it works but for others, it doesn't. I hope it doesn't cause problems further down the line but I have a sneaky suspicion that it will.

Secret Author Stories Contest 2024 Talking Topic

But I have to ask, what created the portals to another dimension for the pods to hide? What created the technology to unlock enhanced abilities? What created the ability for interstellar flight between two planets as Therans lived on Thera before coming to Earth? And, what about the rest of the advanced technology the Therans use? We really need the authors to argue their cases, but in their absence we need an independent judge. Preferably not Theran or Earthling, and not high on caffeine or Oramorph. Are there any Vulcans present? -

You may need to lay off the caffeine, but I think I've had a dose too many of Oramorph, lol. -

I hear your argument, but I disagree. I believe that it is a Sci-fi story. Maybe the SA has written more than one story. We don have another Sci-fi story based in England that mentions a pod in Australia that is manned by a hologram of human appearance. It is from a distant and now dead planet called Thera that was inhabited by beings identical in every way to humans, even down to DNA, claiming a belief that humans and Therans are from common ancestry. Therefore I argue that either the author has written two stories, or two authors may have colluded, and created an overlap between the stories. Maybe they are Therans and communicated via mind speak, known to us as telepathy. I rest my case M'lud. lol. Yes, I'm in a silly mood too. -

I'd call Ceramic Dreams a self-discovery story or a tearjerker, add that to the list and it's up to eleven. -

Not yet titled, hmm, let me think. 🤔 Is the follow-up? Possibly titled After I met Their Leader. -
Compared to many on GA and elsewhere, I was fortunate and had parents who were loving and supportive. In saying that I do have friends who were not so lucky and have seen, from an outsider's point of view, and witnessed some of the crap they had to put up with. One was about to be beaten with an iron bar until my dad stepped in and punched him out. My friend was sixteen at the time and totally distraught. There are no prizes for guessing where he ended up living after that, he wasn't my boyfriend but a very dear friend who is now happily married, he and his husband have since adopted two very sweet children who love their dads.

I'm sure he trying that tactic. But have you noticed the lack of comments and reactions from a large number of our esteemed authors? What are they hiding, hmm, now I'm thinking hard and it hurts. -

I'm tending to agree with @chris191070, I too think this has @quokka written all over it. And I hope we get more after the reveal, I loved reading it. -
Bryce, our main character, is a child prodigy attending university and enjoys challenging himself educationally, but he isn't a boring student. Going home to the family he loves for Christmas should be filled with excitement shouldn't it? Well, for Bryce it is. No spoilers, read and find out more for yourself. I hope we get more to finish this great story.

Wow, this is a nicely descriptive story about a child prodigy taking on a heavy educational load and doing well. The family vacation sounds great and so much fun that you want to be there with them. Then we get to the ending which is a shocker as it is so unexpected, well maybe the title does give it away. I want to know more, is Bryce in an alien ship meeting beings from another planet? Or is he imagining it after becoming unconscious? The only way we will know is more chapters from our secret author, and I do hope we get more after the reveal.

A challenging chapter in more than respect. Ricky had to work hard to write and then stage the musical which started off Broadway before becoming a hit. Joey is working hard to achieve his dreams, it must have been a struggle for them and no doubt it will continue to be so. Randy's disgraceful behaviour has caused carnage and Ricky is picking up the tab, let's hope he gets what he deserves, but reality often has a way of being unjust in these situations. I found the final conversation in this chapter to be a little worrying, are Joey and Ricky really happy for the other to stray in their relationship when Ricky is on the road? I don't think they are and it could be a recipe for a relationship disaster.

I was enjoying a nice pleasant chapter despite budget cuts by a well-off catholic school, well a private catholic school isn't going to be hurting financially, Then we get hit by Tim's home life. Tim's mum appears to be supportive, or is she? It does look as though there are some difficulties in the marriage. The siblings don't comment, or are they afraid to. Then we come to the dinosaur, sorry I mean Dad, who has some definite views and doesn't believe in his children enjoying all aspects of school. Dad also had definite views on homosexuality that he expects everyone to accept and believe in too, what a croc. Now we know why Tim is afraid for anyone to know that he is gay. We've all heard of the horrendous conversion camps for gay kids, can't we come up with some equally obnoxious equivalent for homophobic parents? I think that could be fun.

There has been one posted every day including today, so it depends on which story you read last to determine how many you have missed. There is a good variety of stories, genre's and styles, so something to appeal to everyone.

Whoever our secret authors are they have written some great stories, but who wrote what is still a mystery. I wonder how many more there are but @Cia is keeping that secret too. -
How are you all going with the secret author stories? There are some good ones, I still don't know who wrote what, lol.

yep, it lives up to its title, Off The Rails https://gayauthors.org/story/secret-author/off-the-rails/ -
I'm not sure what to think. This started as a cross-country journey in late 19th century America, where boy meets boy, and then became an alternate reality, a futuristic, real-life video game without a conclusion. Just as I thought I was getting into it it reached a point that needs more to give it substance and continuity. I hope the SA continues the story after the reveal and gives me a chance to decide whether it's a story for me.

If you want a cheap outfit with limited choice/variation you can get it cheaper, I'm surprised. Check it out;- https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwiql8u7mteHAxXVkVAGHXzuCaQYABABGgJkZw&ae=2&co=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwh7K1BhCZARIsAKOrVqE-rL1UBCmGok7X3BDqOhYZz0YK2GzBGZuy78NxvAK_0gx3PYaBstsaAukREALw_wcB&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESVuD2kXr0FCtz_ih-Bvb95ZyBwSF8gMvG69Ocithzx7GqEYXdIKfUo8-g9wdn0VgcwXBO4uOJHyjxHWweYS0j5memCOY4zrMM039yGu7MlzuNmlVX39f-&sig=AOD64_1-lXdoS7XajBhypDHJ-v2QngJTpQ&q&adurl&ved=2ahUKEwjdsca7mteHAxUnVEEAHbjHC5MQ0Qx6BAgKEAE

It's an expensive thing to buy, a kilt on its own can cost upwards of £900. With all of the accessories and other items of clothing for a full outfit can easily cost £1,800 or more. Some outfitters will charge double that and more.
