    Chapter 5

Could it be Norm's jealous, rage-filled wife? Being a cop's wife she would know a lot about police procedure and may have a police scanner to listen in to police broadcasts. 🤔

    Chapter 4

But seriously, is Ian safe? Is it possible that Ken is just dreaming all of this or is there a supernatural involvement?

    Chapter 4

The killer may not need to get near Ian, he's probably scared to death!

    Chapter 3

Hmmm, maybe the killer has a key to the cells, or maybe he's a ghost. Maybe I'm just crazy but I'm lovin' this.

Manny's legacy appears to be larger than we first thought, let's hope the ripples of that legacy continue for a long time to come.

You are right Chris, this is a sad and heartwarming chapter. Benjamin chose people who could not resist the puppy-dog eyes that fixed on them.

    Beach Babies

There are some Boot stories that are not so good but I try to keep them locked up, one did escape in the form of The Busker. Who knows, maybe more of those stories will escape. I'm happy that you felt the warmth of the welcome for Benjamin. I wonder what he will do now?

    Beach Babies

When good people come together they try to do good things. Down on his luck, Benjamin has happened on these good people. They recognise a good person who needs some help and offer that help to Benjamin.

    Chapter 2

Not enough info to speculate yet. It's possible that the crimes have been committed by an unknown outsider hiding in the house and it's also possible that one of our investigators is responsible. We need more info, but my guess is we'll get another body first.
  10. The day following their arrival was a quiet one. Everyone enjoyed an early morning stroll on the sandy beach steps away from their house before the temperature rose to unbearable levels. Leaving the beach, they relaxed in the air-conditioned house until the hottest part of the day passed. A small outdoor swimming pool in a shaded corner of the garden was an unexpected bonus and helped to occupy the boys and keep them cool. "Why not take a stroll on the beach before we eat?" Eli suggested to
  11. It is looking good for the plans, isn't it? Hopefully, everything will come together as intended. I like the reference to 'The A-Team', I'm hoping this plan comes together. 🤞 Jacob and his team are an elite team, quick response is second nature. It also got the pancakes for breakfast, lol. Haifa is an interesting city with plenty of attractions and distractions for them to enjoy.

    Chapter 1

Well, you have my attention. The slow and gentle start went up a notch when Ken arrived at the party, and then we got the shock factor at the end of the chapter with a dead body tied to the door handle! I'm looking forward to more of this skilful writing.
  13. I'm always wrong with my guesses and I'm probably wrong this time too. I keep thinking it's @chris191070, and no doubt Chris will now come and laugh at me.

Hopefully, this marks the beginning of a new chapter for Joseph. The love, patience, and sense of family he will experience with Ian and Kevin will be instrumental in this process. With the right professional support, Joseph has a good chance of replacing his bad memories with good ones and coming out of this in good shape. Let's keep our fingers crossed for him and wish him the best of luck. 🤞

Several drafts were consigned to the bin as I considered them too dramatic and traumatic. I settled on this version as felt it described events without creating too much of a shock and it does not glorify the violence that Joseph was subjected to.

Thank you @Flip-Flop for this comment. I did wonder if I should expand on the treatment Joseph received, but I decided that 'less is more' and kept it brief and to the point. your comment justifies that decision.

    Epilogue

Thank you for the wonderful comments they are appreciated. @raven1 was a great help to me and helped to bring the story to the readership, his help has been invaluable. I'm happy that you have enjoyed the story and hope that the 'nicer' parts of the story have given you a feel of what Manchester is like, I'm sure you would enjoy a visit if you are able. If the story has made a good enough impression can I ask you to leave a review and recommendation? They would also be appreciated.

While Joseph's physical suffering has ended his emotional and mental suffering continues, luckily Ian and Kevin have a good contact who will help to get the right treatment. I'm always in favour of a seaside break.
  21. Hi B, My doctor tells me that any exercise is good for you, but I'm sure there are places with better scenery than the supermarket, unless you spot a cutie bending over the freezer, lol.

Joseph has suffered and the only person who knows the full extent of it has now passed away. Manny told of at least some of it as when he found Joseph he was badly beaten, bleeding and with a broken arm, or as Joseph said it, he was broken and left to die. Ian and Kevin realise this and know that Joseph needs help. Luckily back home they can turn to Jeff who will either help directly or introduce them to a trusted professional. Hopefully, a short break in Haifa will be just what they all need before Ian and Kevin return to the UK.
  23. “No, no, please stop. You are hurting me.” The heavy stick came down again. It struck harder on his back as he tried to crawl away. “Please, I beg you. No more.” CRACK The sound echoed in his ears as the bone in his forearm broke. “Arrgh!” He screamed. The pain was unbearable. His clothes stuck to his body, and the blood oozing from the cuts on his back made them stick. “Nooooo!” Joseph woke up drenched in sweat, his night clothes sticking to him. He st
