It's always a shock when someone leaves us suddenly.
I'm reminded of attending the funeral of a friend's mother about 30 years ago, who had also died very suddenly of a massive heart attack. I was stood at the graveside after the burial, and commented quietly to the vicar who had officiated something along the lines that it must be a nice way to go, quickly, rather than suffering and perhaps being in pain for a long time. It was remembering my own father's recent death following a long and painful battle after being diagnosed with stomach cancer that probably made me utter those words. The vicar replied along the lines that, whilst it may be nice for the person who has died, it is not nice for those who are left behind, simply because they haven't expected it to happen and had no time to prepare themselves for it.
That short exchange made me reassess my thoughts...
