I agree with @Summerabbacat. I don't think Hector is really a threat. Celia's motives, whilst altruistic, are unfortunately misplaced. Just about the only truth Jude gave in his interview was (unfortunately) the name of the third boy. I suspect his chapter may prove to be the calm before the storm...

I can't see how, with the video that Melissa has uploaded, the authorities can fail to realise that the naked boy on the horse is none other than the missing Sol Mundy.

It certainly did! Although I was half expecting it to turn out to be a case of murder by crows... Looks like poor Charlie won't need a TV now his eyes have been pecked out. He'll just have to get a radio instead (maybe a pair of headphones as well, to drown out the raucous laughter of the crows?)

The possible play on words that entered my head was that Sol could mean "Sun", and Mundy sounds a lot like "Monday" (Moon day)... So perhaps something to do with the twin gods of the sun and the moon...? Not sure what @Biff Spork is congratulating @Mattyboy about for picking up on the Sol Mundy reference, though. It went as far above my head as it seems to have gone over @Summerabbacat's.

Lots of twists and turns, just like those logging roads... I'm just wondering how (or if) we're going to be able to square the circle regarding the fact that many of the animals in the forest actually eat other animals in order to survive (Erg, the puma, being the obvious example in this chapter).

I have a feeling that River may be salvable. Unfortunately, I think the same is not true for Jude, who I can't help suspecting may eventually be pecked to death by tens of thousands of squawking chickens. And I guess (as I so often say when writing chapter comments) I shall just have to keep reading to find out the story behind Zhiv... Earlier chapters made me think of the Secret Commonwealth from David Pullman's Book of Dust unfinished trilogy. At one point in this chapter I was reminded of Harry Potter (although it was owls that delivered notes in that story, not crows). I'm also reminded of the following... -

It looks like River will turn out to be the pig boy mentioned in the title of this story. I'm still wondering who (or what) is going to be the insectorator. Of course, not really having the foggiest of an idea as to what that word is supposed to mean, it's hardly surprising I'm not sure. It could turn out to be David, since River is fixating on him. But David himself seems to be fixating on the naked boy he saw in the forest. A potential ménage à trois? Seems unlikely, but who knows where our illustrious author will take us on this ride? I know! I'll just have to keep reading to find out how close (or far) from the mark my thoughts might be. -

Well the fact that it certainly didn't seem like 576 pages when I was reading it just goes to show how well written it was. And, on reflection, I think it was the title you chose for the final chapter that made me suspect Father Lechter would be the one in court, as my initial reaction to the word Collared was for a clerical collar. -

A beautifully executed story, @Georgie DHainaut! 👍 Perhaps the only thing missing was seeing Father Lechner facing the court. Unfortunately, that is so often the result in cases of clerical abuse. -

Yup! I agree with @drsawzall! Definitely Herr Weber. I'm sure the reasons will become clear eventually. I also foresee an eventual call from Niki to his brother. Nothing from Inno's mother in this chapter. Hopefully she will contact him eventually. It is obvious how much the two of them love each other, so I can't see them becoming completely estranged. -
Considering the title, we have obviously been introduced to the two protagonists of this story in these first two chapters. It will be interesting how the two interact as the story unfolds...

What can I say? I know I said after the last chapter that I was worried there might be something bad going on in Elliot's life. With what has been revealed in this chapter, it almost seems wrong to say that I'm glad that it was something terrible that happened in his past, and not something that's happening now. The reason I feel bad about thinking that way is that I realise that Elliot is still dealing with the aftermath.

I had almost expected Chance to type up a reply and slide it into Elliot's locker. It was probably better this way. My only real hope now is that the troubled looks that Chance had been seeing for a while on Elliot's face were merely because he wasn't sure whether his feelings for Chance would be reciprocated, rather than meaning there's something bad going on in his life...

Okay... I'm ruling out Aimee (too dense to write so eloquently) and Rick (obviously not looking for romance). I also don't think Dex would be so nasty. So, the only other person we've been introduced to so far is Elliot. Chance felt something when their hands touched as they were retrieving his belongings from the floor. Elliot seemed a bit distracted from the fact that he was interacting with Chance. Also, it looks like he may have an artistic side (I saw the kid – Elliot – that I almost mowed down. He had a binder out, drawing something), so he may have the ablity to come up with the note included with the rose. Yup! I'm guessing it was Elliot! 💮 Whatever makes you think that??

There's many reasons why someone may find it hard to come to terms with the fact that they may be gay. Unfortunately, some people never actually do. But the first step in coming out, is to come out to oneself. An interesting first chapter. I look forward to see how the story unfolds.

A sad, but powerful story. Made all the more powerful by the revelation the author made right at the end. Not an easy one to read, but one that needs to be read. Thank you, @WolfM!

He deserves more than just a whack on the head. I'm hoping that he did thank Andrew and Dan, and that they informed the relevant authorities.

I think the only hope that I have after reading the last paragraph of this chapter is the fact that this story is being written in the first person.

Well, I wondered last chapter whether something (someone) might try to come between Connor and Leon. But I was shocked to find it was Connor's mum, and not Leon's!
