My view is that a real man is someone who has an X and a Y chromosome. Other than that, I believe you're asking for what are the attributes of a man that people respect. Unfortunately, respect is a very individual thing. Some people respect a stoic attitude. Others respect someone who can show emotion. It's also possible to respect someone and not like them. For example, I respect the attributes integrity and honesty, but if the person's integrity is concerning something I disagree strongly with, then that's a negative as far as potentially liking them. What's a real man? Whatever you want it to be....

I used to have Google Earth, but that was on my last work laptop. I haven't bothered downloading it again, but I can do so if there's a good reason. Since CJ's story is set in the future, and Google Earth doesn't handle time-travel (yet), the only reason I can see why CJ would want us to do so is so we can see a natural disaster (of his making) occurring in front of our eyes....

In the meantime, I'll just say that I'm getting closer to the state you're in, where I won't care what others think. I'd like to be more out than I am, but I have responsibilities to two young boys and I'm delaying coming out more until they're older and better coped to handle any issues that arise.

But did the general get to see that dossier? Not likely, since his involvement effective ended once the devices were discovered and neutralised. the intel would have occurred AFTER that point. He found out about the explosion that was believed to have killed Jerry, but that doesn't mean he saw the complete set of intelligence available. He may have been told about the explosion in a briefing. Since he was on the outer with the Pentagon and the White House at that time, it is unlikely they would have agreed to share too much information with him.

What's your definition of an active volcano? If you're talking about Mount Gambier, I don't know of anyone who would consider that to be an active volcano. As you can see by the picture, it's full of water.... ( you can click the image to go to the Mount Gambier tourism site ) EDIT TO ADD: The link to the Wikipedia entry on Volcanoes says that there is no agreed definition of an active volcano. One definition is the one that CJ has used -- erupted in the last 10,000 years, but it's only one and it's certainly not agreed. Indeed, based on that wikipedia entry, a volcano can be simultenously active and extinct. In other words, if it has erupted in the last 10,000 years but is not expected to erupt again, it is both active (because it erupted in the last 10,000 years) and extinct (because it's not expected to erupt again). Needless to say, CJ will use whatever definition suits him best....

Don't forget that those are two different islands. There's no evidence of volcanic activity on the first island, though obvious signs of activity on the second. Having said that, yes, I spotted that first quote and had to wonder whether that was normal. I don't live in a zone where that sort of thing occurs very often, but I know a lot of members do. Maybe one of them can comment.....

CJ had already posted that chapter 14 was going to be late, so I wasn't expecting it to be up at the normal time. Even so, I'm amazed at the fast turn around. I had only sent him my feedback on the chapter a couple of days ago.

Thanks, old bob! I answered wanting to hear critics and congrats, as well as other, for the first question. While I always love getting feedback, positive and negative, my main reason was simply to enjoy myself. The stories I post here are in the anthologies and when I find a theme that inspires me, I enjoy both the writing and the anticipation of waiting to see how the entire anthology is received. I answered "Other" for the second question, since I do write I answered "No" for the last question because I dislike trying to grade authors/stories for the reasons I gave before.

Old Bob, I would love to respond to this survey, but I can't. The first question doesn't have an option that I can agree with, and the second question doesn't have an option for someone who has stories posted here at GA. Since I didn't select an option, the system doesn't accept my vote As for the last question, my vote is for No. I find grading authors becomes a popularity contest, rather than a quality question. Authors in niche genres, such as historical, horror, science fiction, fantasy, etc., don't stand a chance in general. There just wouldn't be enough readers to praise the quality. The only way it could be close to fair is to have a group of impartial judges, which would be very, very difficult to manage in a purely volunteer environment like GA.

Sorry to take so long to respond, but I've been offline for a couple of days. Any style is fine. The picture I saw a couple of years ago that someone else was using for this sort of anthology was in the manga style and it gave the authors lots of options for writing about what was in the picture.
