I like the figure of speech "Colin had pushed the boat out" That's a new one to me, it's a bit different than "got out and pushed" - pushing a car that's out of gas is putting in a lot of work in bad situation. "Pushing a boat out" seems a bit lighter - it's not necessarily all that much work, and you get to share in the fun afterwards, but you did do something, and now you're afloat and sailing. ⛵

No no, it's great. If I didn't want to be confounded, I'd read something else. I have "follow comments" toggled on, and I was just making a joke about how it adds an element of mystery to my notifications, that there's many interludes, so you never really know what it's about until I click on it!

Colin laughed, “She was born in 1953 and as far as her parents were concerned, the 60s never happened.” Hehe, great line. I knew people like that. They didn't all have the same 60s. or 70s. I guess that's every era, but the 60s/70s is famous for it. And a perfect description of a kind of dinosaur that's getting rarer all the time, but can still be found here and there.

The time passage worked out. You've done a great job of flawed-and-virtuous characters that we can empathize with and who are behaving very coherently. Of course Bryan is upset, and yes, Diego was pretty sensible to cut of Calvin in the past, and not tell the kids about it, but the shit has just hit the fan and cleanup is needed. It's a great depiction of a complicated emotional state; every person in Diego's household is clearly better off continuing there, but everyone is upset right now. I have faith in all of Diego, Steve, Bryan, Caleb, and Billy, but hooboy they all have some work to do.

Yay Steve Yes, I get the parenting-for-honesty gig, but Diego needs to come down off his high horse right now (yesterday would have been better, but today will do). "They need time to process" - that couple of hours at home is enough.

This counts as progress, I think. Robert knows for sure, now, what the situation is. And that he needs to come up with a better plan, that's a sure thing to get Kalum out, the first time.

Mhairi may come around. I feel it actually counts as progress to clear up that it's not about the money. It'll take a minute, but Owain has some good cards to play in wanting to do some uncle-ing to make up for the past, and for wanting Joe to have some experiences that he and Mhairi didn't have. And yes, very kind and nuanced understanding about Colin, it's nice to get to skip some of the cringe of people jumping ahead with the "boyfriend" tag.

Or maybe Mr Johnson. Interesting problem though, it's not just the usual teen-who-thinks-he-can't-speak-up problem. Kalum needs a clean break from Jasper, but it'd likely be impossible to explain to anyone that something really big and final is needed- everyone conditioned today to try a round of talking it out and mediation and stuff. And separating twins in foster care is generally a policy no-no.
