Very nice and quite hopeful that this moth, at least, will have some further adventures. Poignant and funny with Dad I know you're not writing this as a comedy, and it's been plotted out for a years, but Jason finding out sounds like it would be very fun.

    Chapter 14

Thanks for the note, @Summerabbacat. Honoured to be allies in angry with you.

    Chapter 14

Yes indeed. And I agree that it's good parenting for Diego to be making sure Bryan knew the history. But the exchange left me curious in how Diego handled it, maybe he'll say more later.

    Chapter 14

Bryan might not be sure how to express himself about Kenny, but he sure knows what he thinks about Calvin. Calvin may well have lawyered up (with what money, we might ask, but maybe a crazy church is helping him or something). Diego knows who Bryan is, but I feel his soul would love to see this exchange, even though he'll also feel the need to parent it back down to sanity. I'm not sure that history lesson was exactly what Bryan was looking for with "how did you handle it?,"

Well, that's a cliffhanger for sure I'm caught up now, if you were waiting for me.

    Little Queen

Granny Alauis could be pretty useful around the house if she can step out from being awful Yay for Wyn's story

    Change of Plans

Mom not being terrible was a surprise twist. Although if Dad "had a deal that went wrong" I guess he'll have to be dealt with.

    Secrets

Surely the House of Waves could have room for a nanny? So has anyone told Wyn that Wren is back? I like Meryck.
  10. Well, @Dan South was right about Wren's attitude about Lyme. Hope Wren gets some stage time soon, he's got a lot of experience that'll likely help. but looking forward to him angrily dealing with not being a monster anymore. Maybe Wyn can get him interested in gardening?
  11. I'm sure Wren needs some time with Eon, but maybe somebody should tell Loren? I feel he'd like to know. And Wyn would definitely like to know Uncle Wren is back!

    Preparations

I think Wren might understand Lyme's interest. And Wren seems to be something for Eon that no one else can offer. I'd been wondering if EonWren was partly powered by Eon liking it wild, but he's so huge and powerful that that's not necessarily safe for most people, but Wren is up to him and more.

    Consequences

Quote: Who's y'all's favorite? Kalian's still my favorite. Ordinary-nice-boy goes sun-mage-duke is great. Wren and Wyn are wonderfully original characters. As Talon and a lot of the cast are. Tyren. Wyn needs more stage time. Wren-Eon is fucking wonderful but needs some unpacking . . . Eon went for someone who wanted him for his beefy body rather than his lineage or his magik? I feel there's a sense to be made of that relationship but you've never really unpacked it for us. You showed us that Wren craved some warm humanity, but it was Eon's jam because . . . ?

    Stuck

On another note, kudos to you @Demiurge for your accounts of disability - Wyn spending years deaf and Lyrah spending years blind, and despite healing and adaptive devices it still matters for them. And Wren's . . . um, . . . "diversity in metabolic status" I guess I'll call it.

Dlethian law might not recognize it, but by ordinary standards Wyn is Talon's foster-son. Marital status isn't really at play there. Wyn has been introduced at the Dlethian court, but I presume Sumerion was rude about it? Talon and Suman share a grandfather, so they're cousins. So Wyn is Suman's first-cousin-once-removed (ignoring the foster-status thing). He'd be second cousins with Suman's kids, marriage isn't relevant for that (it could be if Kalian had kids from a previous relationship). He'd be first cousins with Lyrah's kids. Sumerion's aggressive over-pruning of his family tree puts Wyn plausibly 4th in line for the Dlethian throne. No sign Kalian has thought that through, but if he does it might keep Sumerion from being chopped into 143 medium-rare chunks.

    Chapter 10

a very fine road to chaos this would be

    Chapter 10

Oh Seth, why are you being loyal to Craig? Excellent for the Chaos (and I'm here for that) but Blake has what you need. And chaos too!
  18. Hehe, if Otis gets the dog-walking job, he might need advice about the best kinds of leashes and muzzles. That should be fun.
  19. "a mostly innocent kiss" "mostly" is being put to a pretty serious stress-test here. Not sure if it will survive that for long, but I guess we'll see.
  20. "not many people draw back the curtain these days" Good for you, Caleb, and hopeful foreshadowing from what came from it. As should be. Also, good for Caleb feeling guilty for his sins, but CalChris isn't really based on restrictive promises, but on emotional support and love, so a moment with a beer-spraying topless tart ought to be more molehill than mountain for them. But I guess we'll see what Chris thinks of the Veronica moment. (Tangentially, the Veronica encounter has the potential to provide exceptionally good cover at school for their relationship should they need/want to use it in that direction)

    Chapter 51

Well, maybe someone should have thought of that when they titled it The Best Year, and not The Year I DQ'd at Regionals and Lost my Scholarship.

    Attack

From Dleth but spent some time in Dimian tracks that pretty well.
  23. Chapter 1? Anything that far back in history can't possibly be important anymore.
  24. Richard Arliss fled from Cape Town to England you say? Name sounds familiar . . . can't quite place it.

    Imago

You can read "perhaps I'm taking this too far" as "obviously," if you like. My intended genre was more "smart-Alec remark" than "literary criticism."
