Chapter 23: Mistakes and Consequences
Mattyboy commented on Demiurge's story chapter in Chapter 23: Mistakes and Consequences
That's some very fine angst, indeed. Even by your usual high standards. And quite the cliffhanger at the end. I'm not sure that's a plane ticket he's buying. Considering that Alec is more-or-less totally out of his mind at the moment, this "plan" could be . . . anything!- 29 comments

Hehe. I'd been wondering if Tyler "taking care" of Ariel was going to tamp down Ariel's kinetic-chaos anxiety-field. But, um, not so much, eh? It feels like something in that school is going to implode into little shards today. Ooh, maybe Sean will be involved! or Hailey! or Sean and Hailey! This is going to be fun!

Outstanding! Now we're cooking!

Well done, River! π This is an exciting plot twist. I'm glad you moved away from cycling through the internal mess of Alec-wants-to-be-with-Finn-but-can't-stand-the-idea-of-trying again. You did a fantastic job of depicting that, and certainly people do get trapped in those cycles, but as far as the story-telling goes, we're there. I now need to backcheck, but didn't Person A think B didn't want more than hookups, but now B has feelings? And then Seattle Ken turned up in Iowa! He took a flight to have a "talk" with River? π€¨ Wait, is River "person A"? π€ͺ Back in episode14 that was all off in hypothetical-land and it never got cleared up for sure!

Hurray! Good for Dad trying to do the right thing.

Hehe, I think you underestimate @Demiurge's capacity to string out a tantalizing storyline, especially after the commentariat has latched on to the issue. Yeah, the massage angle is a good one. It would be rude to not help Finn with his homework, right?

Woo, that's a relief that "Person A" is "Ken," and not Alec or, worse, Finn. And hehe, the "who's-Gracies-Dad?" issue lasts another week! That's good news about Finn and the PT and "working-on-it-since-forever," but it doesn't sound like university-right-after-high-school worked out for him. Which I guess you told us was going to happen re: Milo's injuries and rehab, but it didn't seem to be locked down that it definitely happened. So Milo has always been nice, plus he owes Finn for that. Milo is a positive force that Alec's demons don't seem to be able to get a grip on.

The rugby subplot gives this all a faint Heartstopper vibe sometimes. But yeah, that's not really Nic's jam. Unless Aunt April makes him clean up and spend some more time with Luke's nice friend Jake, who could be a good influence and role model.

"it felt like we were back to what we were in that snow covered field last Christmas." What a great moment and memory that made. That's a lot of episodes back, isn't it? "Knowing he was just over there, had been there my entire life and I only just took advantage of that fact." Ooh Jack's been thinking again! And nice to see the team turn out for some fun! Great episode!
-
Well, that would be cool too. And it's up to you!

This phone business is a preposterous plan that is doomed to backfire. Which is great, Jake's storyline has been slow recently while Nic got himself sorted out, and this gets us nicely back on track!

I was cheered by two of the revelations in this episode. Alec isn't a virgin, and managed to make some small steps on that front. And as gut-punchy as the breakup was, Alec isn't quite directly responsible for blocking Finn from whatever university possibilities he had. Maybe he got a kinesiology degree from Iowa State or something and is putting that to work at the gym?

Chapter 1: "That Gloomy Day In March"
Mattyboy commented on Comicality's story chapter in Chapter 1: "That Gloomy Day In March"
The stories Arcade Junkies and Kiss of an Angel track some characters that turn up later. For Arcade Junkies around New Kid 14 and Angel 1 overlaps New Kid 38. I found it really fun to binge through the different perspectives, but you do you, of course. -
Yay, that was fun to log in and see this up! And happy birthday! OMG, this series is old enough to drink in most states!

Chapter 68 - "A Change Gon' Come"
Mattyboy commented on Comicality's story chapter in Chapter 68 - "A Change Gon' Come"
Yay, the boys made it to school! And many loose ends have been tied up! But we have a title that hints at more! Does this mean we get an Ariel update sometime soon as well? For lunch, perhaps? Thanks for continuing this wonderful wandering story. -
Chapter 13: Drinks and Nerves
Mattyboy commented on Demiurge's story chapter in Chapter 13: Drinks and Nerves
It was going to be Lagavulin, but its smoke is not all that woodsy. And Ardbeg or rarer would be too obscure. Was going for the general sense that it's the good stuff. Macallan's rocketed out of my usual price range, but last time I had some it was a very Finn experience. -
Exciting moment for Finn and Alec! One cathartic moment already today, and another (mostly internal) nemesis confrontation to go! Oh, I caught up! Right at a cliffhanger! (Ideally, no one's gonna get hung over the lookout, but you know what I mean) How often does this update? Daily, right?

Catharsis is way harder to get than people tend to think, but this feels like maybe its the real thing.

Chapter 13: Drinks and Nerves
Mattyboy commented on Demiurge's story chapter in Chapter 13: Drinks and Nerves
"A woodsy smell with a deeper note of something smokey reached Alecβs nose" Finn has always been very fine, but I see he's 18yr old Macallan scotch, as well. He's just that good. -
Probably, and a good one at that. Iowa and Iowa State are quite good football schools. The line came from a drunk teenager at a high school party, but if Finn's getting attention from schools "a hell of a lot better" than Iowa, he's a major prospect. U of Washington is academically superior but is a peer of Iowa as a football school.
-
Great dynamic for the story though. People totally do this to themselves all the time, especially in HS. I have no excuse for just getting here now, I somehow didn't follow this from the start. But the binge-ing is fun (and of course totally healthy).
-
Poor Finn, as well. He might even be aware of the normal current if-they-say-no-leave-them-alone-and-don't-stalk-them rules, but Alec is so skittish all the normal social/flirting dance-steps sail over his head. AWKWARD! Good for Finn, though, the dinner at home was a good move.
-
Wow, Mr M. That's a change of pace for this series! Beautifully done.
