Muslin is often used in sacred items, such as altar coverings, or in religious garments.
-
@Myr said: Bill swears by his dark blue muslin sheets. How did you know, Myr? Are you Big Brother and have you been spying on me? 😜 Please don't confuse muslin with muslim. They refer to totally different things. One is a cotton fabric and the other is a believer or one that follows the Islamic religion.

Then I'm mostly back to work/school - just not here!

Thinking of rednecks with mallets is bad enough, but them having mallets and croquet stakes is even worse. The might go vampire hunting and anyone is fair game! They get to decide who's a vampire and who isn't.
-
I'm still trying to figure out what the meme that @Myr used with this Word of the Day has to do with croquet, other than the guy having a psychotic break throws a croquet stake into the ground and there are croquet mallets lying nearby.
-
The word croquet comes from Northern France from the word crochet, meaning 'little crook' or 'hooked stick'. Croquet was first played in France in the 11th century, although it was called 'jeu de mail'. It was 'borrowed' by the Brits in the 13th century, and then the Scots turned the concept into the game of golf, while the Irish turned it into croquet. Some Americans play a game called 'Nine Wicket' or when played on a distort course it's called 'Extreme Croquet'.
-
Whenever I see the word croquet, the first thing I think of is the scene in the Disney animated film Alice in Wonderland where Alice plays croquet using flamingo as the mallets. I also remember playing croquet as a kid, but the yard we played on had a rather substantive slope to it, which made playing tricky.

Yes, there are risks when transitioning, and I'll keep them in mind as I write future chapters. The boys, however, won't do anything that would draw undue attention to themselves or make them a target for hunter, such as transitioning into a pterodactyl. Just remember, though, that birds are descendants of the dinosaurs.
-
I can picture Bigfoot, a wolf, or a bear wearing spandex after the guys transitioned. 🤪

Thanks, Danilo, and I'm glad Mac's parents weren't as smart as you and drs. Pictures were not something I thought about as I was writing this chapter. (Can you guys see my red face?) 🤫 😘

Yes, drp, that's very true. It reminds me of teh song 'Who Wants to Live Forever'. Long life has its advantages and disadvantages, and one of the disadvantages is bearing the deaths of friends and loved ones that don't have the same life span.
-
Thanks, Raven, and you might be correct about the reason behind their fixing meals for the parents. I'm sure Mac feels more than a tinge of guilt about not being honest with them.
-
You got me on that one, drs. That's something I never thought of.

Religious leaders, as well other deeply religious persons, are said to have a mystical love of God.

Merlin was believed to have mystical powers.

Yes, this worked out well for Mac so far, because it gave him more time to practice transitioning into birds. Yes, when Mac was at the cabin, he spent a little time enhancing certain body areas. When it comes to real skinwalkers, I have not idea what they can do, since I'm kind of winging it here, since there isn't a lot of information about them. However, in the story I'm sure that others can do the same types of things that Devin does.

Thanks for the additional facts, Al, and I agree that Peregrine Falcons are fascinating creatures and they are among the fastest animals on earth. It seems appropriate that Idaho named them the State Raptor. Do the Falcons also hunt snakes along the Snake River? And you mean they don't also hunt rats in the larger towns and cities?

I'm glad I got the Chris seal of approval. 🤪 Yes, Mac is learning how to be a bird quickly, and they came up with a belieble cover story for their time in New Mexico. Now it's vacation time with Mac's parents.

Yes, Peregrine Falcons can fly fast, and the 200 MPH is on dives. I think the Falcon has fast enough reflexes that it would avoid colliding with you in most instances. And you never know about meeting your dad's coworkers and their family. Sometimes it's good, and sometimes it's not. Yes, the boys checked the weather maps for that are for the time they were gone, so they were safe in telling that story to Mac's parents. Besides, I doubt his parents would have checked out their story anyways. It's not like Mac is still in high school and living at home. And sure I believer you about checking your friends' stories and not lying to you parents. (Can you see my crossed fingers behind my back?)

I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter, and now the boys will be going on vacation with Mac's parents. Who knows what will happen while they're traveling.

Chapter 39 – Home With My Parents We made the trip from the cabin to my house on Wednesday and I was surprised to find my parents home when we arrived. “Damn, if we knew you boys were returning home this soon we would have taken the next two weeks as vacation time. We just took today off as a personal day, because we both had dental appointments this afternoon. Unfortunately, we have to work next week, but we took off the following two weeks as vacation time, because we hoped you’d

Children often look at castigation as being scolded, punished, or criticized harshly by a parent, teacher, or another adult. -

Judges often castigate lawyers and the accused for bad behavior in the courtroom. Health inspectors will often castigate the kitchen staff and the owners/managers of a restaurant for poor sanitary conditions in the kitchen. -
This is a unique retelling of a story that has fascinated mankind for centuries and spurred exploration for lost lands. I assure you that this story is unlike any you have ever read before about this topic and it will provide you with an unusual explanation for what happened to an advanced civilization that has been shrouded in mystery. It is worth your time to give this short story a read.
