A small fly in the ointment.. as Sir Francis Calvert has now become an Equerry to the King, his sailing days may be over, or at least suspended for the foreseeable future! But with peace approaching, he may be in an excellent position as he will be receiving an income which others in the Royal navy will not on their discharge.

I wonder if the book did cure Nathan, but others get bitten, how do they explain that they could cure people without letting on that they have been in the forbidden area.. just postulating and theorising..
-
I am hopeful that by opening the book Nathan may have cured himself with an automatic spell from the pages. Hoping.... @mcarss

California, Here We Come.
Darryl62 commented on Mark Arbour's story chapter in California, Here We Come.
I do love that we are all bringing our own psychological input into an imaginary characters who are drawn so well that it speaks to us, and I suspect that we may have actually met a person who has at least some of these attributes JJ exhibits. Credit to @Mark Arbour for the entertainment, and to us, the readers for the entertaininng comments!! -
I had the same thought that the burns might have infected below the dermis layer and was a counter to the poison. We shall have to wait for @mcarss to explain either killing poor (stupid, idiotic who had the opportunity to speak up earlier ) Nathan or finding an unexpected surprise

Yup.. that is me... hahaha 😆

The last two pictures look a bit like the boy Gregory from season 3 Bridgeton. Aged about 13 or 14

I have absolutely loved this series and hope that it gets a much wider audience on this site. Eric has enlivened my life and left a warm glow. I did fear for a moment that when he was hanging out the washing and the white shirt that he was going to have a medical incident and die alone in the back yard on a cool windy day. Luckily for me, @northie had other plans. Having been around England, I could imagine with clarity all the homes and gardens and streets. Fountain Abbey a standout monument. i do wonder now that time has passed, how our cast have dealt with covid and what has become of Adams, cantankerous, cowardly, crass and boorishly ill-mannered father. Prison would not be allowed for a person who reflects the judicial system, but embarrassing ones own class (landowners) would certainly leave a lasting effect. Masterful work. 👌👌👌👏👏👏👏

I have done the opposite to the bigots. When I see a Same-Sex couple I always make a point to smile and say something even if its "what a lovely couple you make". As a 60s white man, the default look is often taken as grumpy, but the response is always one of joy.

More lovely a story you will be hard to find, beautifully drawn characters that make you feel pleased to know and brings joy of each small advance made. Simply gorgeous, you would have to be very hard hearted not to be moved.

I read another of your stories and I have been infected by your style and empathetic characters. Britain has I fear only gone further backwards in the intervening 8 years. I have in laws in Yorkshire (Ingleton), who struggle on the aged pension. We support them with trips to Australia and money as gifts, luckily they are not lonely or without support but as people who are in their 70s, the NHS is more to be feared than not for the elderly

Exciting chapter! Rabiah is going to be quite the character

Chapter Twenty-Three: Breach
Darryl62 commented on drown's story chapter in Chapter Twenty-Three: Breach
I have found this story to be at times both exciting and irritating. The challenge for me is to follow the rapid changes to the main characters. It started as a potential mystery then werewolves and then the construct of the universe. I have been thinking about abandoning this and to be honest, the very long delay had me thinking that it was abandoned. The whole scene in the forest seemed to introduce interesting characters who just dropped off, leaving me wondering what the hell is going on. @drown there are just so many tethers ( and I mean introduced people) holding the three main characters that keeping all the links straight in my head makes me wonder if this story is going to meander along without resolution. There, I said it ( sadly not defiantly), but my confusion is my own and will await the next chapter cautiously. -
No, no,no @lawfulneutralmage, "mom" is incorrect and an abomination in this very English story. The rest of the English speaking world (except Canada) are clearly "mum" and rightly so. Dear me, the Kings English indeed!!!. Your beta editor must have been napping.😘

Edna Mode " No capes darling!" Best line in the whole Incredibles movie

Short answer is ambient noise. Long answer is to mute the sound of footfalls, same with the linen tablecloths to reduce the sounds of cutlery. Makes for a better dining experience as the client's are not having to shout to be heard. Murmuring is better than exta white noise. Then again, you never have to ask an American to repeat themselves, (that's the joke worldwide), loud enough without extra amplification !!!🤐

I ran a bank branch in Murwillumbah in NSW, yes snakes in the Bank are a real thing....

Your story is number one on the most recommended so far for 2024. Certainly had me curious and now..hooked! Seen heaps of police procedural dramas from The Bill, Vera and Morse along with many from the 80s and 90s. Perfect descriptions!!!

I was tryinng to rememeber if the children were at Portland Place or in the country at Brentwood. I am sure both William (his son) and the Tutor will have something to say on the new arrangements, hopefully the Segnora Bellini is well versed in keeping children placated, Elizabeth might have a new favorite, as their mother doesnt seem to hold any interest in them at all.

@Mark Arbour, clearly not only prolific author, but highly regarded by many ( including me!)

Beautiful ending to chapter, I do hope both our heros remember their lessons, one to be less trusting and the other to not let his anger flare. Also, I am enjoying their travels and it was nice to be reminded of their initial meeting and running from trouble.

Darius and Will with JJ would be formidable..

Of course, there may still be an inheritance, but derived from Nazi past. Lots of various groups ( including gay people) had everything confiscated and hand over to Party hacks. Perhaps that is the real reason why the lawyers are not making headway, who are the real owners and was it legally done correctly at the time. German law on restitution is very complex regarding the war years 🤔

Such an unexpected surprise to find a new chapter awaiting. Brads final monologue was amusing and enlightening about his thought process but I am sure that there will be fireworks down the line. I think JJ will be all in on this plan but Kris will definitely need help getting over this news that his entire past as relayed by his family is not only a lie and a sham, but deliberately kept him in the dark. Masterfully done @Mark Arbour.
