  1. I had a discussion about this with a friend earlier and I had to repeatedly tell her that Miley wasn't a racist! Ok, I'm sure by now, all you Miley Cyrus fans out there know about the latest scandal about her being accused of "mocking" Asian people. http://www.tmz.com/2009/02/02/asian-group-...f-these-people/ (... this tells you a lot about the media, not Miley... it highlights the "asian" guy in the group... yep... they have to go ahead and play the race card... both the TMZ staff writer (who wrote the headline) and the OCA need a good slapping!) I know it may be offensive, but her goofy appearance was meant to be a joke. I have people doing that to me so often I know whether he or she is being racist. In Cyrus' case, I really don't care about what she does because a) it's her personal life and b ) she is being silly in the picture, but since this is blown out of proportion in the NEWS -especially by an Asian group - and everyone has to make it into such a big issue, I see a problem with that. I'm not bothered by the fact that Miley was making goofy faces; rather, I'm offended when comments such as "People need to get over themselves SO WHAT !!!!! Get tougher skin !!!!", or when people start to complain about how Japan and Hong Kong are the most racist countries out there. I mean, come on. Since when did something so meager as a joke or silliness turn into a blame game?? It was just a joke. Yes, people need to "get over it", but don't start blaming ethnicities or telling one race off, because that to me, is considered... kinda racist.
  2. Haha, I'll get very very angry if Hollywood ever does a remake of "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Am
  3. I thought it was ironic. In contrast to the crew members, he seemed to be the more unprofessional one. As an ex-theatre-cum-film student myself, I know that there is a certain etiquette on stage/ set governing behavior, and violence between workmates has no room in this profession. Funny he needs to use an expletive for every sentence, wow! He should play the villain instead of the hero; at least that would have suited his unjustified behaviour. However, with that said, I do believe that the cinematographer should be blamed for his actions too because it is still very unprofessional to ruin a scene. Bale needs to relax...
  4. I completely agree with the posts up there My first bf was Japanese, my second was Jewish and my third was Irish American lol. I think what counts in dating is the DATING part, not the colour of one's skin, which is kinda superfluous to me. I used to have not much of a problem with my first ex-bf but my third ex-bf dumped me for reasons undefined. I hated to think it was because of all the name callings he got for dating me.
  5. I'm writing a report on films for one of my modules, and foreign film "remakes" seem to capture my interest. Personally, I do believe some remakes are as great as the original films (e.g. Quarantine and The Departed). However, most remakes are disastrous. (e.g. Dark water and The grudge) Why? 1) Because the authorship and intention of the original film is lost in transition. 2) Because the actors do not perform their roles well. 3) Because of cultural differences. 4) Because of misinterpretation. 5) Because most remakes do not "read between the lines". 6) The list goes on. What do you think is the significance of a remake? Why should there be, or not be, remakes? Do you think there is an underlying "film hegemony" at work? Do you think dubbing destroys the essence of a film? (Personally, if I'm watching an English movie that is dubbed in Japanese, or a Japanese movie dubbed in English, I would cringe... but that's me. I prefer subtitle only if I don't understand the language spoken.) There will be a remake for one of my favourite Japanese movies called Death Note. I don't know how it'll fare, but from the examples set by most Hollywood-Japanese movie remakes, I shan't anticipate it too much.
  6. I'm supposed to do a report on this movie. Sadly I haven't seen it yet. *slaps myself* I should really watch this movie. Kevin is right about the propensity of activism in the USA. Here's something interesting: in the late 20th Century, new movements such as the "anti-Vietnam war" and "Women Liberation", particularly in the USA, prompted LGBT groups to become more active.
  7. Awww thanks guys I got a B for the so-called "test" by the way. Yep, so there are still rooms for improvement. Now I have to improvise a song with a mixture of any 2 themes with the major D chord for my assignment (love, rejection, unrequited love, anger, melancholy, or epiphany) *gasps* Oh and yep Arpeggio (cool nickname! *my arpeggio skill sucks haha) I do have a metronome, but i hardly use it
  8. *gasps* Jovian slaps himself silly for not wishing Yap a happy birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY YAP YAP YAPPPEEERRRRSSSS!!!
  9. Hey Guys I took New Age improvisation classes for the piano, and there'll be a mini test in a week. I'm not sure if my standard is up to par with the others in class, because I admit I'm a horrible pianist haha. Anyways, I recorded a song I improvised on my keyboard (using these instruments: piano + strings) a while ago. I thought it'll be better for me if I upload it here and get some opinions on the song: whether the song is "all right" or "bad" etc, hehe. I know I've made a couple of mistakes, so pardon my mistakes hehe The title is weird, I know. I just threw in some random title for it hehe.
  10. Happy 22nd Birthday Robbie!!! :king:
  11. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! XD
  12. I'm so glad that you're out of the hospital. I'll continue to pray for your health.
  13. Hey, now's my turn to post this Willie's currently at the hospital and he's currently getting tested for Crohn's disease. I'm praying hard that he's not suffering from that. Furthermore, he's coming out to his family in a week, which I'm a little uncomfortable with since he's already suffering with a health problem. But I'm confident that his parents would love him the way he is. Please pray for him.
  14. During the New Year's, my family and I would gather in church or a friend's house for a countdown. Every year, I'd be summoned to play the piano, which quite frankly and painfully, I'm very reluctant to. Why? Because I either skip notes along with my heartbeats or miss an entire score page because I couldn't get the darn file to flip hehe. Speaking of which, I think I'd suffer from a heart attack tomorrow. Last Christmas and New Year, the pianist at church was brilliant. He perfected every song. This year, even though Christmas is over, he's not going to be around to play. Instead, I'm taking over as the pianist and to be honest, I'm scared! I remembered messing up a sonata at a piano concert. The awkward silence... brrrr.... I'd be playing 11 Christmas carols and songs in church in a few hours, including 3 songs for a youth choir, which I'm sure I'd mess it up terribly! Wish me luck! Furthermore, I have to play 13 songs on New Year's Day. Gulp! It's kinda suicidal and I'm not prepared.
  15. Merry Christmas Everybody
  16. For reasons unknown, I always get bubbly when I wear a hat or a cap. Here's a recent weird shot of me haha. I thought I was going to fall. I had to use my left hand to support my weight on the crutches. I had a friend who asked me if I just got back from Africa. I told him my doctor gave me this hat haha.
  17. That's a nice photograph of yourself Jessiflash !!
  18. Hey I've been walking with crutches for nearly 2 years, and it's kinda a burden. I want to get rid of them asap, but my doctor seems a little hesitant. It's not the result of "the early manifestation of symptoms", but rather, reflex sympathetic dystrophy (Chronic pain). I've had that illness for 6 years now; plus, I'm still mobile . Cheers Jovian
  19. Awwww thanks guys!!! Thanks for all your wishes. I truly appreciate them I'm feeling much better now Although I still am on crutches, I can move faster than before hehe. I'm hoping, if the doctor will, to wean my crutches asap and only use them when necessary Thanks again guys Cheers and lots of hug Jovian
  20. Hey guys Although there is a slight infection in my spinal cord, I'm doing fine In fact, I'm back home now Was supposed to go on a trip to Thailand this week, but had to postpone it haha. Anyways, thank you so much for your prayers and thoughts *hugs all*
  21. Happy Birthday Benji!!!
  22. That's a nice suit Willie!
  23. Thanks, I'll see if I can get my hands on a dvd of that film. Sounds pretty interesting. On a more serious note, you're absolutely right. Life is complicated. It's not black and white. I just don't see the point in starting a massacre. These terrorists need serious re-wiring in their heads.
  24. By now you've probably heard about the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai. This deed is unjustified and unforgivable. It's barbaric beyond barbaric - no harsh, caustic words can be used to describe the catastrophic scale of this incident. I beseech all of you to pray for the Indians in Mumbai, the national and international victims, and the families who have lost their loved ones. Terrorism has no place on this earth. It makes me sick to even say that word. Who gave these terrorists the rights to play God?
  25. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIM *huggies*
