The party is well underway and being enjoyed by everyone (ignoring the two young guys from whom Carol was rescued). The food has been eaten and the partying is starting. I'm pleased Tony and Aaron have taken the essential precautions to prevent the bonfire spreading. Tony now has a big house, with a cottage and acreage. Once he tells Aaron they will have to decide how it is used and who stays there.

Thanks @chris191070. Josh is coming to believe that he is surrounded with love.
-
Thanks @Lynx003. The next chapter includes the birthday party. Olivia and Daniel will both be there. The plan as discussed in an earlier chapter is for Olivia and her brother Kevin to be staying with Josh, Jordan and Cameron for three nights.

Thank you @Summerabbacat. I enjoy tofu when I have it, but my repertoire of good vegetarian meals is very limited. Child sexual abuse is not just physical but also psychological. The psychological scars can be long lasting and usually need professional support. I don't believe one appointment with the psychologist will solve everything. Jordan was concerned about David being told and hopefully nothing bad will come from it.
-
She certainly is!

Thank you @Flip-Flop. Yes Cameron and Jordan are doing all they can to help Joshua, including recognising when he needs professional help.
-
Thank you @Philippe. I admit I was surprised when I discovered that the age restriction is explicitly written into the legislation.
-
You are so right @pvtguy. In this case seeing the psychologist is not just about one thing.

Josh is experiencing the love and support of extended families he needs. Too late to come around I afraid. An adolescent male on the threshold of seventeen and you expect leftovers!

Thanks @Ticklishboy30. All in good time. Cam's parents had to adjust to Joshua being in his life. Joshua's relationship to Adam will be revealed.

Jordan and Cameron looked at each other. Joshua’s sudden swing from desire to dread concerning the birthday party left them perplexed and worried. Cameron moved supportively, “Josh you don’t have to do something just because you’re asked to do it.” Joshua was frustrated. “It’s not that easy.” “Cam’s right, whatever it is you can always say no. But, all the people you’ve invited love you. They won’t expect you to do something you don’t want to do.” “You just don’t understand.”

Good Value for the Money
Paladin commented on Laura S. Fox's story chapter in Good Value for the Money
@Laura S. Fox has, not unexpectedly, left us with a pile of questions. Top of my list is whether Theodore has lost his wolf. I would love that to have happened and for the duct taped stranger to be Theodore's fated mate. Next on my list is Cassandra. She is proving to be not only a very poor clairvoyant, but a conniving evil force in the world of wolfshifters. What should and will happen to her? As for Danny, Vince and Jack, all I can see is Danny being anything but ordinary (and Ryder's mate) and Jack and Vince mating.- 42 comments

Quote: but I had also seen the video tape of the high school musical that he had performed in about twelve years ago, and like most other people I had been blown away by it. I always have mixed feelings and often dread with karaoke at parties, especially with people who believe that alcohol improves their singing. The more alcohol the better! From memory in that school musical Tim starred with Sam and they sang brilliantly together. With both of them at the party, let's hope they will sing together again.

What better place to confess love, than in a confessional. A nice love story to tidy up and end the series.

I love that the OED needed to indicate that Gardiner was both a theologian and a Bishop. I would have thought that one of the requirements for being as eminent as a Bishop is being a theologian. Apparently the OED knows that there are Bishops who lack theology. I await the imminent lightning bolt striking me down.

Wen to Hearst: While you went down your rabbit holes, thinking you’d be this great reporter one day, unmasking villainous corporations and whatnot, because that was the narrative he sold you Will this make Hearst a great reporter unmasking the villains in the LiveFeed and reality TV industry? Wen to Hearst: “Your name won’t be mentioned, of course. All great reporters need to protect their sources. And you, lil’ bro, are mine.” Or, is Wen going to be a great reporter unmasking . . . . Jamie? The battle lines are being drawn with Hearst being caught between the combatants. Will he turn out to be "the third man"?

The party is starting to warm up with everyone enjoying themselves. A nice touch having the supportive police sergeant and his wife attend the party. I doubt he gets invited to any of the Thompson's parties. Plenty of food and drink and Tony continues to show his respect for Aaron by not drinking alcohol in his presence. That's love in actions. The owners of the house have agreed to sell. Tony is now committed to living in Thompsonville, so I think that seals the deal with Aaron. They will be together.

connotation - Word of the Day - Wed Jul 2, 2025
Paladin commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
The phrase double entendre certainly has connotations. -
I'm not pedantic. I just know what's right down to the final dotted "i" and crossed "t".

Tony did not expect to be part of the official Australia Day presentations but it seems to have provided him with useful contacts outside of his group of friends. I hope Rebecca Thompson has genuinely earned her award. Her attitude portrays a sense of entitlement that some small community founding families cling to. I liked Paul making an appearance and meeting Tony. I hope the other guy is his boyfriend/partner.

Chapter 14 – The Final Chapter
Paladin commented on Inkognito's story chapter in Chapter 14 – The Final Chapter
I was hoping for more of this story but it is a good story that leaves the reader wanting more. I love your concept of family. Well done @Inkognito. I'll keep watching for the epilogue. -
A wonderful chapter. I just wish the speeches at similar events I've attended were as short and heartfelt as these. I believe that conferring citizenship and presenting citizenship certificates is a important part of Australia Day, especially in local communities, like Thompsonville, where local residents are involved. I remember how joyful Miriam Margolyes was when she received her Australian citizenship in 2013.

This story started off as a fairly ordinary, spine chilling account of being lost and marooned in winter on an isolated forest road and being rescued by a mysterious stranger. It has developed into a much more interesting and intriguing story about vampires, their existence and interestingly, their residual humanity. Each chapter is drawing me deeper into this story.

impaired - Word of the Day - Wed Jun 25, 2025
Paladin commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
@Bill W's etymology of impaired shows another example of how in English a word can change from a verb to an adjective. Its root in Late Latin is a verb and it is still a verb in its journey through Old French. As @Bill W points out it is a verb in 14th Century English (impaired being past tense of impair) but by the 16th Century impaired is also an adjective. I love that we can look back and see how English has evolved. It reminds us that as a living language English continues to evolve. Whether that is for better or worse is often the basis of heated argument. -

Paladin commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
In Australia a euphemism for being overly alcoholically impaired (especially if that person is a politician) is "tired and emotional".
