    Chapter 2

These guys are falling for each other fast, and Michael has something to reveal in the morning. Hmmm
  2. Looking at the etymology of etymology we again start with those clever ancient Greeks who had the word etymon to which logia and logy could be attached. Then the Romans who didn't have a word of their own with that meaning, "borrowed" it and made it the Latin etymologia. Because the Romans did a lot of conquering and colonizing Latin spread through Europe and so etymologia moved through Anglo-French and into Middle English where, just to confuse everyone, it emerged as ethimologie. In the 14th Century it is recorded in its present meaning. No doubt in a "place of learning" such as Oxford University.

    "Zwischenzug"

Pleased to hear that. Strap me in for the ride.

    "Zwischenzug"

Certainly working hard together as @Cane23 suggested. Either that or was it RxN.

    "Zwischenzug"

So the game continues with Pawn moving around the board and enjoying watching Rook and Knight working together. It seems he would like to work together with Bishop. This is not a simple game and no doubt has more strategic moves. I am waiting to discover the role of the horses (and one in particular) and the body in the coffin. Excellent chapter.
  6. Another glorious chapter with lots of fun and sensual lovemaking. A wonderful extended family. The meadow is a beautiful place for young minds to visit and be with ancestors.
  7. Things could be very different in a near peaceful future but now in 2024, USA is not a party state to the International Court of Justice. As a result it does not have any jurisdiction over international crimes committed in the US, including by a US President. The ICC could hear charges and make decisions but they would not be enforceable in the US.
  8. I agree and words should not be one of those things, even though there are orators who use words to stir our emotions in an attempt to make us vehemently for or against something.
  9. The comments on this blog are usually kind and without great passion or intensity, so I expect it will be the same for this Word of the Day; vehemently.

    Chapter 1

Oh, the possibilities! Michael chose Wyoming so he wouldn't have to interact with people but not far into the state he is forced to interact with two people. Will Michael and Doug pass the time with tales of New York or something else?

    Prologue

What a disaster of a day! Michael is right. He needs a vacation and to get away for a while.
  12. phlebotomy is yet another word that entered English with its current meaning in the 14th century by the circuitous route of from Middle English fleobotomie, which came from the Middle French flebothomie, which earlier came from the Late Latin phlebotomia, which the Romans had already taken from the Greek, phleb- + -tomia -tomy. A word "borrowed" down the centuries by developing language after language. Am I mistaken in thinking it it is related to using leaches to draw blood from patients, and that even today leaches are still used for particular medical reasons.

    Chapter 10

Ben certainly has a lot to sort out about himself and he has to understand the difference between lust, sexual interest and love. Gay guys in a relationship can be sexually interested in another gay guy and not act on that because of their love for their partner. It is the same for straight men who feel sexually attracted to other women. It also works for bi men, irrespective of where they are on the straight/gay continuum. They can be in a relationship with a woman and sexually attracted to another man, or vice versa, but what it still comes down to is, do they act out of love or lust. All of us are capable of distinguishing between being sexually interested in someone and knowing whether it is appropriate to act on that interest. Yes, I know there are some exceptions like rapists. I'm not saying what Ben should do, but I am saying he should find where his love lies and, like all of us, act accordingly.
  14. The blended families blend beautifully together. I love that Bran is so nervous and concerned about meeting Rhett. I hope all the security cameras don't stop them being "friendly".

    Keep on Truckin'

I have to say that I didn't didn't expect Avery's ability to understand people's darkening auras would lead him into the even darker world of politics.

    Chapter 9

@Mark Ponyboy Peters you are raising some issues that often are ignored. The closeted but active and violent gay, in this case Andy Thompson. The existence of 'beats' at that time and the inherent danger in going there. The difficulty young gays like Aaron faced in trying to have some gay experiences. On top of that is, the small town 'closed shop' attitude. People know but for various reasons no action is taken.
  17. But still log on for tomorrow's word of the day.
  18. OK @sandrewn I'll rant with you on the OED's money hungry approach with their online dictionary. 😠 And now for our word of the day. When I first saw logophobia I thought 'at last a word to describe how I feel about the proliferation of company logos'. I'm surrounded by them including big Ms, smiling colonels, burgers, a Lissajous figure, a flying kangaroo, and the yellow and black CBA square. Unfortunately the list goes on. Reminds me of the short Ogden Nash poem: I I think that I will never see, A billboard lovely as a tree. Perhaps unless the billboards fall, I'll never see a tree at all. OK my rant over.

    "King's Pawn"

OK I'm hooked. I want to find out what game these four chess pieces are going to play along with the fifth. At this stage I'm not sure if they are white or black.
  20. I think we know what a museum is now, but its origin starts with the Greek “mousa” meaning “muse”. The “seat of the Muses” or where they met was the Greek “mouseion”. The Great Library of Alexandria, which was tragically destroyed in a fire, was part of a mouseion. Museum enters English in the early 17th century. So there we have it. Museum started of as place where people could reflect, discuss and learn and is now more commonly a building in which objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural interest are stored and exhibited. However, we should still reflect, discuss and learn whenever we visit a museum.
  21. Yes I know it's but these are called "ghost words" which is appropriate for this time of the year. Ghost words are words like "dord" that do not exist and should not be in a dictionary. An entertaining video by Robwords on ghost words is at:
  22. A joyful chapter full of love and tears. The ranch is filling up and a solution found for the townhouse. Chris being united with his bio dad and fully accepted was nicely emotional.
  23. Nor should you.
  24. I'm very late posting this because I'm very lackadaisical about commenting on today's word of the day.
  25. I like the drama and tension in this chapter. We have seen both Joshua and Noah as cold blooded murderers coupled with Joshua's intriguing comment "that wasn't Noah". We are yet to find out how and what gets "unleashed" in both of them. The murder of the parents and the mother's question "Are Noah and Joshua safe?" increases the tension and leaves open whether one of the boys committed the murder or if there is a third person involved. Great writing and an amazing chapter.
