  5. She pushes boundaries and she was dying for someone to ask her where she got it. I can name a dozen people who think and act like this. I was thinking something along these lines, maybe a bit worse. I haven't decided yet. Nothing specific; I think. She probably got bored with school somewhere in her junior year and fell behind. Ashlee and Sarah both graduated December. Ashlee was a semester early, and Sarah ...
  6. I hadn't really come up with the entire story arc on Sarah. However, that could be a good moral. I forget that sometimes too, and I'm in my forties. The A+F line was a bit thin and needed to be fluffed (oh, grow up) plus I've always liked Sarah both as a villain and as a three dimensional character (trailer park beauty queen in the big city).
  7. Intransigence is the word that Lisa misspelled in the spelling bee episode
  8. Sixteen Years Earlier Crystal Strickland leaned on her deck railing, shivering in the darkness outside her double wide trailer. The cigarette in her shaking fingers had nearly burned down to the filter. She desperately wanted more, but she knew a second smoke would make her sick before she finished it. She was broke enough already, and she certainly wasn’t going to waste cigarettes. She’d thought about switching down to Pall Malls or Parliaments to save a bit, but she’d been raised on Camel
  9. Someone at work left their Facebook open on an office computer. A coworker changed their status to "Call me with your best Wookiee impression." Elegant.
  10. SADLY Samuel Adams doesn't like you. STRAP

  13. ChatGPT writes like a 9th grader following a five-paragraph essay format, no matter what you ask it to do. There's an opening, some body, then it ties it up with a little bow along the lines of "They hoped they would grow from this experience." It won't do angst of any kind, or emotionally raw edges. So, it sucks out loud for original literary writing. I do show the AI what I have written to see if it can pick up what I am trying to communicate. If you tell it to "critique" it will point out weaknesses, particularly in tone and narrative pace, which I find useful. I did use it once when I wrote an angry letter to my boss about all the bullshit he needed to put a stop to, then fed it to ChatGPT to make it more professional. It spat out something completely milquetoast, so I prompted: "I want some of my personal frustration to come through". Ya know what? It did it. I patched up some syntax and handed it to the guy, and he was all about it. Now, a little later I was supposed to fill out a questionnaire before my performance evaluation, which was such bullshit. I took one look at their dumb questions and thought, "I ain't in the mood for this shit," and went back to writing for GA. Day of the evaluation, I gave the questions and a couple bullet points to the AI, and it answered the questions, but in the most horrible stilted way possible. The Main Boss read it back to me during my evaluation. God, this DOES suck, I thought. "Where did you Google this up from?" he asked. "Ya got me, sir. Guilty." The Lesser Boss, who was in on the meeting (and who wrote the questions) asked, "Why didn't you turn it in on time?" I said I hadn't been in the mood for it and put it off till the last possible second. Main Boss, thank God, laughed and complimented my honesty. So we just talked about what my goals and stuff were and he made notes on the questionnaire. So ChatGPT builds professional rapport?

    Chapter 6 Bell

Well, shit. I assumed Harper was going to be way into it, considering how fucked everything else is in that house Okay, now I'm thinking Scott Pilgrim and the League of Evil Exes. Carey and Toby will get all of Bell's other takedowns' contact information and kick his ass.

    Rising

Thanks for looking in! I was afraid I'd got buried until I got around to posting 6. I didn't really manage to shoehorn Sarah's problems into 5, but 6 will be entirely from her perspective. She'll get her own subplot, I think. It will be totally straight, sorry, but it should challenge her. Uyen ... I haven't figured her out either. She's got a lot going on as the "good friend". She's young and small, but assertive without being fiery. How did she get that way? Who knows? I've sent the manuscript to my contact in the Vietnamese community for ideas.
  16. You're my main man... se
  17. You know that part in Rocky Horror where Frank-n-Furter seduces Brad and Janet separately ("I thought it was the real thing!")? I see something like that developing, but instead of one nocturnal caller having identical sex scenes with two people, two people -- Harper and Bell -- having identical sex scenes with Carey. This one is WAAAY over the top and I love it! Please let us find Tobey dead inside the dining room table!

    Falling

@Dan South Thank you! I have been seriously neglecting my day job in favor of this. I should give it a break, even though this is way more fun. I will not reveal my day job, as my employer is risk averse and reputation sensitive.
  19. Two sex scenes of genuine lust so far. Carey doesn't know jack, though, does he? He may be mainly attracted to people who push him around.

    Falling

Clarity came not. Ashley found her way out of the ‘hood and made her way downtown. She went straight for the cafe near the office. She couldn't think on an empty stomach, but what about a full one? Nothing doing. Ashlee was discovering that there wasn’t anything she could eat or drink to make it better. Her gleaming shoes crackled around her feet. She'd bought them when she moved in, intending to exercise. That might clear her up. Ashlee had always wanted to check out the C&O
  21. The end is near! Chapter 5 was about to go up, but the 📨 message needed tweaking, so it went back into moderation. Thank you for all your kind wishes for Ashlee and Felicity. I hope they work it out soon!
  22. It turns up now and then in Wodehouse, when he's searching for the metaphor less traveled -- or travelled if you prefer. Quite a dignified provenance, and I like a well spun image. Skimming this chapter, the whole thing may be up my alley and/or street. The style seems rich and engaging. Keep you posted

    Struggle

Anyhoo, I'll save the rest of my musings for the next chapter. I like to think that each of the four characters is an aspect of the process of acceptance, and there's only one gal who hasn't weighed in yet.
