In the summer of early 1918, as a great war raged in Europe, and citizens of the Empire struggled with the sacrifices being made for the greater good, life on the shores of Thompson Lake went on, much as it had done for the hundred or so years since it had first begun. On the lone dirt street that led in and out of the town, a row of merchants still plied their trade. There was a general store, a butcher, two publicans, a pharmacist and a baker all catering to the basic needs of the small p

War! Nothing on earth even comes close with regards to heartbreak, tearing apart relationships and families, and leaving dreams shattered! History is littered with the shells of the broken hearts of millions, and yet the wars never end. So, what happens when two young lovers in a small country town during WW1 are called to play their part? Can their love endure? Will they be reunited at wars end? Or will their love be trampled into the earth by the boots of a marching army?

February 2003 - Ben - Tim was the first out of the car when we made it back to the house after lunch, and the first thing he said was, ‘Oh, shit!’ ‘What’s wrong?’ Guy asked him. ‘Bloody phone is ringing!’ While the other three of us, being Sam, Guy and me, all extricated ourselves from the vehicle, Tim ran up the path, fumbled with his keys in the back door, then let himself inside. Matt and Luke didn’t come home with us, preferring to walk home instead.

Hmmm ... Perfect Beat? Yeah, I think I get your drift! The other one I don't think I've heard before though.! Anyhow ... 28 years since the events of Seventeenth Summer! Yeah, just about spot on! Nice pick up! Would probably be a good idea if I mapped the family tree of this Thompson clan. I'm sure there are a few skeletons that might fall out if I shook it a little! Some more will be revealed in some of the other stories set in the Thompsonville universe though. Of that you can be sure! haha

And will be friends for life, at that! ❤️

Ahhhh, yes. And there have been generations of Thompson's in Thompsonville... ☹️ Need I say more?

February 2003 - Scott - On sunny Saturdays like this it’s always good to get out and away from the house and the caravan park for a while, so Justin and I went to the boardwalk for lunch today, just as we did whenever the opportunity arose. Surprisingly, and thankfully, the cafés weren’t too crowded, as most of the people seemed to be still out on the lake or down on the beach, so for a while we actually had the place we had chosen, Squids Seafood, all to ourselves.

February 2003 - Matt - ‘Hey, Matt! Pass me the salt, will you?’ I heard Samantha ask, but for some reason it just didn’t register. I think that I was too busy thinking about something else. Or I should say, someone else. The next thing I heard was, ‘Here you go, Sam.’ ‘Thanks, Luke,’ she answered. ‘I think Matt’s off on another planet somewhere!’ ‘Oh, he’ll come back down to earth soon enough,’ Luke joked. I turned around and faced him when I hea

February 2003 - Guy - ‘So, what’s going on in there, then?’ Matt asked as he and Luke joined Tim and me where we were standing guard in the hallway, outside the closed door of the kitchen. ‘Nothing much, Matt. Ben and Sam are just having a little heart to heart, that’s all,’ I answered. ‘Oh! Trouble in Paradise?’ asked Luke. ‘No . . . nothing they can’t handle. Ben’s just having a little identity crisis, that’s all . . . and don’t you guys go saying anyth

February 2003 - Samantha - It was one of those nights when everyone was restless. It was hot and muggy and the moon was out, and there was no way that you could sleep with anything covering you; it was all you could do to sleep on top of the bed covers. I had rolled over several times through the night and found Ben lying awake, with his arms folded behind his head, just staring at the ceiling. ‘Are you awake, honey?’ I asked him one time. I think that was at ab

If you're offering, you'll have to get in line I'm afraid!

What? Oh, shock, horror! All will be revealed ... eventually! ❤️

The whole idea behind this story was to bring all the main characters from the first three stories together in one story ... then move forward, continuing the story arc with them in future stories set here. I hope you enjoy it 🙂 MP

February 2003 - Tim - ‘Well, they certainly missed out on a good night out,’ I heard Ben say from the back seat of Guy’s car, as we cruised along the main street of town. We were heading home after enjoying ourselves at our favourite Chinese restaurant. He was referring, of course, to Matt and Luke, who had earlier left us a message on the kitchen table saying they were heading to the local pub. It was a glorious summer night, just right as far as I was concern

February 2003 - Luke - So, today is Friday. Three weeks exactly since we had landed back here in Thompsonville. Permanently this time though, and not just for some overnight stay, like we had been doing when we first discovered the place. When I got back to the house this afternoon, Matt was the only person home, and I found him sitting at the table in the kitchen with a cup of coffee in one hand, a red pen in the other and a newspaper stretched out in front of him.

February 2003 - Ben - The morning after our newcomers had arrived, I woke alongside Samantha in the back of her small station wagon, looking eastward atop a mountain between Macquarie Harbour and Thompsonville, and towards a distant and dark horizon. The car was an old piece of crap that Sam had picked up cheap sometime last year, just so that she had a vehicle to get around in. In my first few days here she had shown me around the local sights, with yesterday after

January 2003 - Guy - Moving house was something that I have always hated, and here I am now, eighteen years old and standing knee deep in boxes and junk, wishing that I was doing anything but this, but at the same time knowing that I’ve never been happier. When I was a kid, it seemed like we were moving constantly, mainly due to the fact that my dad was always being transferred from one town to another with his job. I think that was one of the main reasons why he a

January 2003 - Matt - Ours was a future as yet unwritten. There was no preordained path for us to follow now, and such plans that our families once had for their beloved offspring were now banished to the past, with a new future and new plans to be all of our own choosing. As we wound our way along a snaking mountain road, through forests so green, beneath skies so blue, I couldn't help but feel liberated, despite what it was that I was leaving behind . . . well

Leaving home for the first time and heading out into the big, wide world to forge a life for yourself can be a daunting thing for anyone . . . unless, of course, you have your best friends right there beside you, sharing the experience with you, the ups and downs, the highs and lows . . . We first met Matt and Luke, Tim and Guy, and all of their friends in After We Danced, The Rip and Song For Guy. Now they are living together in the small town of Thompsonville, a place they had quickly come to love . . . and their adventures have begun!
