You’ll notice I’m alone in my speculation about TransAdam. Everyone else thinks he’s Artie’s father! I like to push things further than everyone else – it’s much more fun that way! ;–)
  2. Two different Districts. Alamo Park, Japantown, and the Fillmore are parts of the Western Addition. It’s east of Golden Gate Park, between Van Ness Ave on the east, Masonic on the west, California St on the north and Oak/Fell St on the south. It was given that name because it was a large tract west of the previous western boundary of the city, Larkin St, in the 1850s. The Sunset District is west of Twin Peaks and south of Golden Gate Park. Those sorts of houses are at risk of major damage in severe earthquakes because the garage is a large open space without a lot of bracing. Not as bad as apartments built over garages, but still in need of retrofitting. But we’ve been working on retrofits for years, other susceptible parts of the US (like St Louis along the New Madrid Fault) will suffer significantly greater damage with a much weaker shaking. ;–)

In Lord of the Flies, the adults save the kids when things devolve into chaos… ;–)

    Chapter 4

Another author is famous for responding with “” and sometimes “”. ;–)

    Chapter 4

Why does this remind me of Alien now? If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, no one can hear you scream? There won’t be any Marines led by the sexy Michael Biehn to rescue them in the sequel! ;–)
  6. Speaking of Clay, how long will he remain silent about his problems – and who will he turn to for advice? ;–)

Or she’s having too much fun cowriting that other series with John! ;–)

    Chapter 45

Did we correct Jo too many times (your/you’re, draw/drawer, Camero/Camaro, me/myself, etc)? ;–)

    Chapter 45

So in the side story we found out Declan’s story. But we haven’t had any updates on any of this group/series in quite a while. Has @Bndmetl forgotten about these guys? ;–)

    Chapter 45

They do everything else together, why wouldn’t they both get pregnant at the same time too? ;–)
  11. I’m thinking Twyla better remember that scrap of paper she found stuck in the drawer! ;–) This story still feels like there are several critical pieces of information missing! I enjoy jigsaw puzzles because you know all the pieces are going to be contained within the edge pieces that you put together first! There aren’t any extras and if it’s brand new (or previously put together by someone trustworthy) you know there won’t be any gaps or missing pieces! So much less frustrating than mystery stories where the ‘edges’ aren’t necessarily defined, you might not have all the pieces, and there might be extras thrown in as well! ;–)
  12. Clew noun Sailing the lower or after corner of a sail. (clews) the cords by which a hammock is suspended. (Clew) a ball of thread *used especially with reference to the thread supposedly used by Theseus to mark his way out of the Cretan labyrinth) archaic variant of CLUE. Why are you using an archaic variant of the word? Is there some significance to the usage? Or is this yet another red herring? ;–) note: I did not include the verb definition as well as the origin also listed in the New Oxford American Dictionary entry for Clew.

    Chapter 4

Is there an alternative access road for the boys to use? Or did they strategically narrow things down to make defense easier? Unlike a castle or mountain fortress, I’m sure the treehouse doesn’t have a bolthole for emergency exit that could also be used as a secret entrance (as in The Hobbit). No sewer system to crawl through either (as in Ladyhawke). ;–)
  14. I know I posted the rondo from John Field's second piano concerto, but here is the whole gem, performed brilliantly by Michael O'Rourke and the London Mozart Players.

Will started it! He was the one who entered Liam’s photo in the contest without asking. It’s like the prank wars all over again! ;–)

    Chapter 3

Je ne comprende pas. ;–) But we discussed a certain right-hand-drive Renault truck as well as the suspension design characteristics of French cars due to the less-than-pristine condition of French country roads. ;–)

    Chapter 22

There have been stories on the news recently about people renting homes on airbnb who have parties and left the house trashed. Tonight there was a story on the news about a person who rented a house in San Francisco on airbnb and left the building in such a horrible condition that they had to get a hazmat team in to clean up the fecal matter, trash, and injection needles strewn around. It seems that there are people who think it’s okay to destroy someone else’s property and don’t realize they’ve left behind clues that will help the authorities arrest and prosecute them.

I got the reference the first time around, but shouldn’t the names have been Miss Brahms (or Mrs Slocumbe) & Mr Humphrey? ;–)

    Chapter 3

We hear about Winter and Summer Blends in the context of gasoline price changes twice a year. With California’s special blends being produced by only a handful of refineries, the changeover is definitely noticed by drivers’ wallets when they fill their tanks. It’s mentioned on the news twice a year here. You could share it with select readers via PM… ;–)

    Chapter 3

With a very limited number of potential parents, the group will need to consider genetics to avoid extreme inbreeding. They will need to include the genes of every member of the group (except Mom who is too old to contribute) to maximize their potential future success as a society. I would expect everyone to be included as parents regardless of the actual genetic paternity. It takes a village works especially well in this sort of context. I see them evolving to become more like a commune than a traditional nuclear family. ;–)

This isn’t the first time an author has accused me of that! ;–)
  24. Denora really is a small town! I’m kind of surprised that Sarah Taylor admitted that she shouldn’t have been Valedictorian. It’s not a surprise at all that she couldn’t make it at Stanford – the one time I visited the campus (in the ‘80s) there were plenty of very hot guys around! ;–) I can’t see Dustin sleeping with Sarah unless there’s something more than sex involved. Dr Thompson is a very sleazy professor. When (not if) he gets caught, it’ll cause a huge scandal! The media loves teacher/student stories, the fact that it involves Gay men will make it even more enticing to them!

    Chapter 3

I would think the batteries in things like the headband lamps would die after a year or so. Even rechargeable batteries have a shelf-life and lose their ability to be recharged after a while. Newer types of rechargeable batteries have different characteristics than older technologies though. And most rechargers are designed for AC current, not the DC that Solar Panels produce. ;–) Radios are a mixed blessing. Every time you use one to communicate, others could possibly use the signal(s) to triangulate where you are. Just because someone isn’t a Zombie doesn’t mean they won’t harm you.
