    Chapter 6

I was teasing you (by intentionally misinterpreting you) because ‘fewer’ is normally used in reference to numbers of people rather than ‘less’. ;–)

    Chapter 6

This was at the late-lamented Tower Records store in a very suburban part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Not too many people read it wherever they shelved it. It's Australian and expensive! ;–) Are you calling me as lesser person? ;–)

That’s why prisoners on death row marry incredibly deluded people who only found out about them after they’d been locked up! Why would you want to marry someone who’s never going to get released from jail? Someone who you’re never going to be allowed to have conjugal visits with? I mean, come on, Charlie Manson?

    Chapter 30

That grocery store must not be unionized. Union contracts often forbid stockers from operating the registers. Same thing with Courtesy Clerks (aka bag boys). That’s why even when the lines are really long at Safeway, they still have people loading your bags for you! (And many unstaffed registers.) Things have gotten worse now that Albertsons has taken over Safeway. On the other hand Target is non-Union and when it gets busy, they start calling people in from all over the store to staff registers. If the power goes out, every single register is staffed and everybody stands around waiting in the emergency lighting until the power comes back on and the registers reboot. Then when that finally happens, Guests are checked out as quickly as possible! ;–) I was at Foods Co (one of Krogers’ smaller, no-frills grocery stores) one evening and they had all but one person on the register. That one person was rounding up carts and I had to wait until they got back in the store to retrieve a case of stock stored way above my head on the top shelf. It was great for anyone who wanted to get out quickly, but a pain for me because I needed other help. ;–)

Niall sounds pretty but acts like a very nasty jerk! I can see why Glenn was tempted, but too much alcohol meant he wasn’t able to make the right decision. The fear of doing that kept me from ever drinking alcohol or using any other drugs. But then again, I’m Risk Averse! ;–) To me, Niall is kind of like the hot mugshot on the news. I can see why he gets away with things even as I’m repulsed by what he's done. But I’d never be so turned on by the mugshot that I’d try to contact the guy! (Again, Risk Averse!) ;–)

    Chapter 6

Blue is actually a very upscale, artistic magazine that includes nudes. Actually a classy, very large, thick magazine. Not really porn, but usually shelved there because they show male genitalia and it’s aimed at Gay men. They’d probably shelve it with art magazines if it were aimed at hetero men and featured similar artistic female nudes.
  11. Wow! Now @R. Eric getting the forms wrong is almost normal. I don’t think I even registered those here!

    Chapter 28

Also, splitting biblical chapters down to ‘verses’ allows for people to take things out of context much more easily. Taking random sentences (aka verses) and using them to bash your enemies doesn’t really prove anything. The earliest books in their bible were created long before written language. The stories were passed down verbally – and we know how accurately things are when passed verbally through just a few people playing ‘telephone’*! It doesn’t take a lot of imagination to realize there were probably innumerable ‘corrections’ and ‘clarifications’ made along the way. Plus misunderstandings and misinterpretations. With all that happening, it’s difficult for me to understand how people can believe that their fairytale book is the inspired literal word of god. Add to that all the translations over the years that might or might not capture all the subtle nuances of the earlier language accurately. I am an Agnostic and do not trust organized religion – it sounds too close to organized crime to me! ;–) *The Telephone game involves a group of people sitting around a circle. The first person person whispers a message to the person next to them. That person then whispers that same message to the person on their other side. This is repeated around the ring until the last person attempts to report the message back to the first person and the entire group. Inevitably the message gets garbled so much it usually doesn’t even resemble the original message!

    Chapter 6

Is the Zombie getting stronger the more his suit disintegrates? ;–) If fire doesn’t kill him, it will destroy his suit! Will he walk out of the fire naked like Daenerys Targaryen did in Game of Thrones? Does he have any dragon eggs to germinate in the fire too? ;–) Does anybody have any Dragonglass (aka obsidian) handy? ;–)

But Torchwood's Cap’n Jack was able to reconstitute after an explosion that tore him into millions of tiny pieces! It just took time! At least we know that the attacking Zombie isn’t Jack! Or do we? ;–)

    Chapter 6

Will they lure the Zombie to the treehouse stairs so they can pour oil on it and drop a match? Do they have flamethrowers in their arsenal? They burned the dead-zone around the treehouse at least once before – can they figure out how to do it again while the Zombie is trying to cross it? ;–)

    Chapter 2

Jack is reconstituting from the dead as a ‘good’ Zombie to tell them what to do? Mom is a reconstituted ‘good’ Zombie too? The attacking Zombie is working so fast because he knows his candle is nearly out? ;–)

    Chapter 2

But it’s traditional with these sorts of stories for there to be exposition of the cause at some point. There’s always a convenient scientist who details what happened and what fatal flaw for the heroes to exploit! All so that we don’t feel like it’s an (at this point) incomplete @Cole Matthews mystery. ;–)

    Chapter 19

But partial burial of a building allows using the earth as insulation against temperature extremes in either direction. If you’re in cold regions, you’d want to maximize south-facing windows. In hot climates, those are the windows you’d want to minimize. Early white pioneers in the US Plains region also used sod on the roof of their partially buried houses as added insulation, a strategy that’s making a comeback on modern buildings which minimizes rain runoff and cool the area around the building. California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park: West Elm Store at Bay Street outdoor mall in Emeryville, CA: Unfortunately, the mall brought lots of traffic and congestion to a small town with limited transit mitigation in the form of free medium-sized diesel bus shuttle service to the nearby BART station. The shuttle service is paid for by Emeryville businesses like Clif Bar & Company, Grocery Outlet, LeapFrog Enterprises, Peet’s Coffee, and Pixar.

    Chapter 19

California homes are often designed with very wide eaves to block the summer sun. Old homes had very high ceilings to allow heat to rise, leaving the lower portion of the rooms cooler. Very different strategies to deal with radically different climate conditions.

    Chapter 19

Maybe some of the larger stores can convert what is currently basement storage rooms into sales floors and either convert or add stockrooms in floors above the ground level. Or they could flip the uses and have customers going downstairs during the seasons when people are walking on the surface – there’s a Trader Joe's in San Francisco that’s below ground level! There’s a small area off the sidewalk with an elevator and escalators down to the sales floor – due to the high demand for retail space, not ice and snow! ;–)

Ellen tapes her show in LA. I think she lives in Malibu. She grew up in the other LA (the swampy one). ;–) How come you can mention a crossover, but @R. Eric scolds me anytime I hint at one? ;–) cc:@USA Reader 1 ;–)
