    I don't read Kris as a gold digger so much as someone who prefers the finer things in life and appreciates the lifestyle that money can buy. He intends on going for that life with hard work, but it would be nice to have someone that could maintain a beautiful home like what JJ is able to do because his money.

    I've always likened JJ to being a child star, except he was the child star athlete. Now that he's done with skating, he doesn't really have a strong purpose or direction in life. Which is understandable given how much of himself he put into figure skating. He could have looked into coaching, but I think JJ likes having his freedom to do fuck all now. A lot of people don't have that luxury, see: his new boytoy Kris.

    The "not wanting to grow up" thing is pretty much right on, I think. Anyway... Chapter 5 -When Kris tells JJ about his plans to go by his title, and JJ encourages him.     I think of Mark as coming up with ways to gently nudge JJ out of his comfort zone to make him grow up. Like he's Walt Disney explaining patiently to a child star that he has to grow up and can't be 12 forever.

    What I think is cool about Kris is that he combines Carullo's "every man" quality with Alex's pedigree. Interesting to see if that works.

    Yeah, even Andy Sharpe from Cross-Currents would be like, "Maybe you need to chill a bit, dude." Edited to add: I did just realize that Andy is in his early 20's while Brad is in his early 40's. There's hope that Andy will mellow out by the time he's pushing 40. Not seeing that happening with Brad. LOL

    I just realized that this British young adult actor Louis Patridge is really close to how I pictured Jack in my mind when I originally read Be Rad in 2009. (Just lighten the dark brown eyes to hazel brown.)

    As to another angle- I really liked JJ revealing that he knows how to surf, but he doesn't want to share that with Brad and Will even though he knows that it would likely given him a tighter bond with Brad. JJ already had that tight bond with Robbie and he can't let himself be that close to a father figure again.

    JJ is hilarious because he's a Hallmark romantic comedy character (the snobby rich dude who gets his comeuppance at the end when the protagonist chooses the salt of the earth type in a flannel shirt and backwards baseball cap over him) but he's stuck in an edgy soap opera instead.

    JJ is a romantic comedy character stuck in a soap opera instead. Lol Okay, got it. I can't remember how he switched- was it USC to UCLA? Hey, JJ has a plan. He plans on enjoying the life of leisure that has been afforded to him due to the hard work of his mid-Western forefathers after they immigrated to the U.S. in the 18th or 19th century. (My fanwank is that the Cramptons, Hendricksons, and Schluters were the founding families of Claremont, Ohio sometime between 1790 to about 1810.)

    I'm assuming JJ's plan is to live a gentlemen's life of leisure while pursuing various activities to enrich the world of the arts with his critical eye. Would that be what is called a real job? Or college? No, but whatever it is that JJ does, he'll do it with style and panache. That does make me remember something though- shouldn't Darius be going off to the military? I thought he was ROTC in college. He should have graduated UCLA by now unless he did a 5th year. He graduated high school in '00, and therefore should have finished college sometime in May '04, unless there was a 5th year.

    I think the joke is that Jacinta is JJ's One True Pairing because while love interests come and go, good help stays as long as possible. JP had Vella for years.

    I mean, I really love Carullo, but Carullo is a "live in the suburbs and raise a family type" and that's never going to be JJ. Damned if I can't help but root for them anyway. I do think it's interesting how Kris echos Alex in being someone from a noble blood, but different in terms of not actively living that lifestyle. I mean, dude is a working stiff at Goldman Sachs. So you're getting the noble blood thing from Alex, and the "common people" thing from Carullo, and I can see why JJ's really into Kris. There's also something joyful about a guy being 18 and learning about sex in a positive, fun way. JJ was so stunted for so many years. Anyway, I really like the Kris/JJ thing. We'll see how this goes.
