The Mardi Gras 2014 season in New Orleans was officially opened last night with the Twelfth Night Revelers ball. The season runs until midnight on Mardi Gras or Fat or Shrove Tuesday [which this year is March 4th] the day before Ash Wednesday. There will balls and parties until then with parades during the last two weeks before Mardi Gras day. At midnight on Mardi Gras day, Rex, the king of carnival, and his queen will go to meet the king and queen of Comus and thus bring to a close the 2014 Mardi Gras Season.

O'Toole appeared in 34 stage plays, 64 films and 26 TV shows. He was the only actor to have been nominated for 8 Academy Awards and never won one, although he won many other awards during his career. He was one of very few who was nominated for playing the same character in two different films. Henry II in "Becket" and "Lion in Winter". His role as T.E. Lawrence in "Lawrence of Arabia" was surely the role that brought him to the public's attention and "What's New Pussycat" was not, by a long shot, one of his best films, but I guess if you discount everything else that made up his career he wasn't famous.

It has been 10 years today that I became a member of GA Forums. Over the last ten years GA has grown and changed since Myr realized his dream and GA was Born. When I joined there were only 85 members in the forums and now there are 14,826 members. The forums came a bit later than the GA story site and a number of the early members were from another site (which is no longer in existence) where, if memory serves (and it doesn't always) is where Myr's idea for GA was born after Kyle Aarons posted the 1st chapter of "The Kandric Saga". Some of the early first members "Frankenfurter", "Frodo Baggins", "Freedom55", "Gandfalf Lyonn", "Ostwestrian", "Teddy Bear", "boy on a string", "B_O_B", "Crazy Goat" and more were from that other site. The list would get too long to mention all of them. Of Course, Hosted Authors "Bill W", "Comicality", and "Kyle Aarons" are still with us. That's enough. As can be seen from my post count, I haven't posted very often in 10 years. My main focus has always been reading great stories from some fantastic story tellers and authors.

I really don't have a favorite, but Raymond E Feist's "Riftwar Saga" would rank right up there. But, only the three novels in the saga, not the other novels in the "Riftwar Cycle". There isn't much difference between each book of the rest of the cycle... different place, different time, same story, trouble, Pug to the rescue.

You find an organization that is worthy of support. Such is the "Make A wish Foundation." http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/11/15/batkid-san-francisco/3588173/

Not to everyone's liking: Stan Kenton, and Bob Graettinger.

I usually just say, "Not interested" point to the "NO SOLICITING" sign and close the door. Of course, I don't think any of them can read, or if they can, they haven't a clue what the word no or soliciting means. One that I remember: Opened the door and the first words out of his mouth was "Have you been saved?" Looked at him and responded, "Yes! A long time ago from religious freaks like you." then closed the door.

I'm not sure that, that is true. If it is, my question would be; why are the parents of the approximately 1.5 million kids who have been kicked out of their homes, and/or abandoned by their parents, and are now living on the streets in US cities not been prosecuted?

No werewolves, vampires or zombies. Just a very pleasant, delightful coming of age comedy/drama film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2179116/

Seeking anedotes about gay soldiers who've been discharged for sex
Tomas replied to crazyfish's topic in The Lounge
There were "Undesirable" or "Administrative" discharges that were also used for "forbidden" sexual relations amongst other things. Not as devastating as a dishonorable on the surface, but ranking right up there when the reason for them was questioned. -
Not flighty, but moody and temperamental yes. Ofttimes times sneaky and down right nasty. Other times warm, cuddly and cooperative. But then aren't we all.

When ever I even think about attempting to write anything at all, whether it is to write more on an existing story idea or to try and start a new one, my Muse gives me a sneer, gives me the finger, then runs away giggling. Not only that, she takes the characters with her.

Ahhhh! A stroll down memory lane. I remember watching the birth of the forums back in July 2003, although, I didn't become a member until December of that year. I knew Myr and a number of the early members from another forum site that is no longer in existence. ( Sometimes wish that it still was, I miss it and the people that populated it.) Because I come here for the stories, I have never felt a need to be a prodigious poster. That is why after almost 10 years for me, my post count is a lot lower than some who have been a member for a shorter period of time than me. And that is still true. Anyway... it has been interesting and fun watching how GA has grown over the last 10 years and sincerely hope that is still around 10 years from now even though I may not be here to see it.

At one time there were forums for political discussions, but things got so bad in them, they turned into "flame wars" instead of discussions so they were closed and are not likely to be brought back.

Minnesota has approved marriage equality after several hours of debate in the state Senate and a vote of 37-30. It will become the 12th state in the nation (with the District of Columbia) to offer its citizens the freedom to marry. The House passed the bill last week in a 75-59 vote and Governor Mark Dayton has said he will sign the bill.

LG is taking pre-orders for a 55" curved screen televison in South Korea. It's made from organic LEDs. Going to be pricey, only cost you $13,500. No word on when it'll be available to the rest of the world and what the price will be. SOURCE: http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-lg-curved-oled-tv-20130429,0,6958382.story
