  1. A few comments: I have to admit to some natural philosophy tendencies. Although I loathe PETA and think most environmentalists are stupid hippies, I am very Green. I respect nature and won't have anything to do with capriciously harming it. That being said, I believe that there is no good reason why we can use nature's bounty without trashing the planet. Well said Razor. Yes- they are constructs but I contend that they are more culturally derived than psychologically. Which is sort of what I was looking for in this exercise. Most people are thinking for themselves and, as Matha Stewart would say, It's a good thing. Legal vs moral: is a struggle that has gone on since the beginnings of government. Of all unlikely places, the old role-playing game D&D LAWFUL EVIL alignment illustrates this point best. Someone with this alignment is EVIL but behaves within the framework of the law. Played well, lawful evil villains can be some of the toughest enemies that you will ever face. They are organized, smart and have the law on their side. The difficulty with law is that it is a blunt instrument: a sort of one size fits all absolute. We see this in zero-tolerance policies with school administrators, police and prosecutors who are simply using these policies to push their own agendas.
  2. Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) is getting cuter by the year. If you've ever read my story Broken, Rupert looks a lot like the character Doug Edwards did. Brian Edwards, my dark side boyfriend, was his younger brother and looked like a younger, shorter version of Doug.
  3. Bry- If 14 year olds had looked that good when I was that age, I would have refused to grow up. What is it with you kids and your sparkling blue eyes, perfect posture and A&F good looks? Are they putting something in the water that we missed out on in the seventies? James
  4. Good? Evil? How do we define it?
  5. I haven't met a red-head yet that wasn't ticklish... and I have spent a great deal of time looking.
  6. Well... if you don't count the webbed feet mutation as damage. If it doesn't stop raining soon, I'm trading our 4X4 in for a canoe.
  7. We're moving out in stages at dawn. FIrst the guys to clear the roads with chainsaws. Second- the power people. Then the Telephone guys... From what we've heard, we dodged a major bullet. Gustav was a mess but it was by no means a Katrina. New Orleans and Baton Rouge are in tact with only minor damage. We've even heard that the power in New Orleans stayed on through the whole ordeal. Here in McComb, MS Gustav has been loud, wet and obnoxious but is finally beginning to clear up. Now if Gustav will just move on and let us clean up the mess.
  8. I am at a staging area about 30 minutes north of the Mississippi-Louisianian border where there are hundreds of electrical and communications people and trucks from as far away as Maryland, Pennsylvania and Michigan. As soon as the storm clears, we'll be going in. I am part of a team of sub-contractors that will be going to telco COs to check them out, repair as necessary and bring them back online. My group will be in New Orleans and Baton Rouge putting the broadband networks back together. I've got my camera and you'll get pics here first as I get a chance to post them. Right now we're having a BBQ and the Bratz that the yankees brought is smelling good enough to eat. TTL, James
  9. I'm James and I'm in a bunker in an undisclosed location in the path of Gustav. (I have thrown Cheney and his shotgun OUT of the bunker.) I'll be here all night in my Forward Command Post in SE Mississippi. We are beginning to see the first storm bands moving through here at ~8:00 CST. The endless trail of cars from the South has ended and I think people are hunkering down for the storm. I am safe on high ground and literally in a bunker sitting on a major network node. I doubt I'll be out of touch anytime soon. I'll keep you up to date as the storm progresses. Back in an hour.
  10. I may be wrong- psycho-babble isn't exactly my forte. That sounds like passive-aggressive behavior and it's a real easy pattern to get into. Here's a link of two-see if you think the shoe fits. Passive-aggressive behavior: wikipedia What does passive-aggressive mean? Me- I'm aggressive-aggressive. I just kick somebody's ass and get over it.
  11. Two cute pups I would say.
  12. How about a card for it was a really nice one night stand and I'm almost sorry I gave you Pizza Hut's number???
  13. Busy, busy, busy A few weeks ago I got a call from a headhunter who was looking for field engineers in my area for a big project. Well I did one site which turned out to be an audition and was offered a contract. Long story short- I got a contract with a major national bank to do network upgrades for Mississippi branches and it looks like I'm going to be super busy at least through November. I won't be around as much as I usually am and some of my projects are going to have to wait.
  14. Every person is a mix of characteristics- some positive, some negative. It's unrealistic that a person be all positive or all negative- saints and demons excluded of course. What some people define as a positive or negative characteristic, others may see as neutral or a complete opposite. A whole lot of it depends on the eye of the beholder. Perspective means a great deal. If you only know a little bit about a character- superficial information, its easy to make a snap judgment. If you know the whole story, it may make a big difference in how you see a character. For instance: what everybody sees: Seth is a 16 year old thug that a lot of people in school dread. He's got the rep of a dealer, a history of beating people up and no friends. He has a minor criminal record and cops harrass him as do a few teachers, the principal and some prep seniors. What very few people see: Seth's family life is a disaster. His mother is a alcoholic and drug addict living on a disability check which keeps her wacked on pain meds and vodka. Seth is left to take care of his mother and his little sister Angie for whom he is a wonderful, protective big brother. His whole dark side routine comes from providing for his sister after his mom drinks and uses up her whole check.

  16. NO. Because I've played dirty and know what it costs in the end.
  17. Most teens have a serious problem with opportunity in that they don't have the privacy or the place to do the deed. Brothers, sisters, nosy neighbors, grandparents are all possible barriers to gettin' nekked as they say in Arkansas. This is cool in a way- in story telling it can add to the titillation factor. In practice it's pretty darned frustrating.
  18. Hey Comsie: If I took you to Six Flags, would that help with the BRATS in your head? Well- if that won't work, here are a few things I used to do to have fun/get in trouble. Skinny dip [highly reccomended!] Drink a little, act silly [tipsy is fun, drunk is too much] Have "danger sex" within a few feet of an authority figure [gawd is that ever hawt] laugh at stoned people become one of the stoned people laugh with the stoned people wake up with the wrong underwear on take shots of the weird stuff that looks like nyquil and tastes like shoe polish called jagermeister go to a pasture party [those who live in rural areas get a keg and party all night in the woods hey, aren't those magic mushrooms??? sorry Mr. Vampire- we're all so wasted if you took a drink on an empty stomach, you would probably pass out drunken driving? hey we're dumb, not stupid working on old cars while drinking beer coming home drunk at 3am wearing the wrong shirt and 30-something hickies str8 friends hook you up with a hooker and you end up compairing notes on your str8 friends somehow you always end up with a drunk, curious str8 guy in your tent you go to sleep with your head in your best friend lap and you wake up with a boner in your ear hugs to Comsie and all his fans, James
  19. Every halftime speech in history has merely been a rewording of Henry the Vth's address to his troops prior to Agincourt. Just listen to it and tell me it doesn't make you want to go out and beat the crap out of some French people.
  20. Thanks Buddha- it was well worth the wait.
  21. PETA is simply a modern manifestation of one of the most ancient religions: animal worship or animalism. When people believe in nothing, they will always find an idol to worship. It's similar to the eco-nuts and their nature worship. People have a natural void that only faith in something will fill. Just make sure that it is something worthy of your faith.
  22. You can put a dress and lipstick on it but it's still RED China.
  23. That cat has eaten a few too many cheeseburgers.
  24. He can have mine for a while. They get so bad sometimes I can hardly hear myself plotting world domination and the downfall of my enemies.
  25. Same thing happened to me several years ago. Back in the 1980s I had a particularly heinous knee operation called an ACL repair. Split my knee open like a log- took me a year & a half to get over it. It's not nearly as bad now but back then it was a byach. A few years ago I had symptoms of DVT and it turns out a blood clot formed in the scar tissue. They treated it, 4 days in the shop- I mean hospital- a check up a week for a month, 2weeks then once a month. They let me go after six months. Its a pain in the arse but there an end to it. Just try to enjoy the rest. When you get home catch up on all the DVDs you haven't seen yet or reading that you haven't gotten too.
