The Beatles The Beatles first formed in Liverpool, England ~1957 by a quartet of school chums. At first they were the Quarrymen, then the Johnny and the Moondogs" and finally the Beatles in honor of Buddy Holley and the Crickets. Primarily consisting of John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals) throughout their career, The Beatles are recognized for leading the mid-1960s musical "British Invasion" into the United States. The Beatles played clubs in England and on the continent from 1960-62 when they finally got a record contract. Their first two singles were Love Me Do and Please, Please Me- both of which blew up into number one hits in both the UK and the US. From there, thier career went into afterburners and everthing they touched went triple platinum. The Beatles first full length album was released in March 1963: Please, Please Me went to 1 for 30 weeks in the US and the UK. I Saw Her Standing There Please Please Me Twist and Shout Their second album was With the Beatles released in Nov. 1963. Please, Please Me was number 1 on the US/UK charts for 21 weeks. All My Loving Please Mr. Postman In 1974 the Beatles released A Hard Days Night which went #1 on the UK/US charts for 21 weeks. A Hard Days Night Can't Buy Me Love Beatles for Sale was released in Dec. 1964 and hit #1 for 11 weeks. Eight Days A Week I'm a Loser Help! was released in Aug. 1965 and went to #1 for 11 weeks. Ticket to Ride Rubber Soul was released in Dec. 1965 and went to #1 for 8 weeks. Baby You Can Drive My Car Norwegian Wood Michelle

As long as necessary. Snowie's suggestions were pure gold. Here's how it works. About once a week (depending on how busy I am) I'll do a profile. Something listed or requested. Beatles are next- I've already started with them. I will list the groups ORIGINAL albums- NOT compilations or re-releases with additional content. I will have links to Google Albums (feature just added) so you can see the track list. I'll display the album art and give a couple of links to videos on utube or perhaps elsewhere for a representative sample from the album. Compilations: when a group has a massive catalog like the Beatles, I will list recommended compilations BUT only those that I own, are critically acclaimed and worth the trouble like the Beatles Red and the Blue albums. Oh and don't be shy- leave a comment: a story or a memory stirred by seeing or hearing a song that you haven't heard since Nixon was president. Nixon! Gah! I must be getting old.

Over the weekend I launched an experiment in my blog called the Cultural Enrichment Series. The idea is to do a profile of classic rock bands using images, and videos available from U-tube. It is designed to give users some idea of which albums are which, their contents and whether or not they might like to buy it. My prototype came . You can check out my work on the Doors in my latest blog entry. My response to this both in public and private has been overwhelmingly positive. My next profile? Why the Beatles of course. Let me know about other bands that you would like to hear about. They don't have to be "classic" groups per see but the more obscure, the more difficult it will be to find material for them. Sample from this weeks entry: LA Woman by the Doors Upcoming profiles: the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Rush, Jimi Hendricks, the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck for starters.

A long time ago on a beach far away, Jim Morrison and Ray Mansarek met. What followed was one of those spontaneous reactions that is only possible when the chemistry and times are right. The Doors are Jim Morrison(singer), Ray Mansarek(keyboards), Robbie Kreiger(guitar) and John Densmore(drums). The Doors emerged from the LA club scene with their breakout album the Doors in 1967. Their debut album had two number ones, was the #2 album of the year and is listed on everyones list of Classic albums. it took the country by storm. Touch Me Riding the wave, the Doors released their Second album Strange Days in late 1967. It became a gold album and contained a number of now classic and often covered Doors tracks. People are Strange When the Musics Over Waiting for the Sun was their third album released in 1968. While it was a critical success, Jim magnum opus the Celebration of the Lizard just didn't come off right. Don't tell the fans that. With hits like Hello, I love you, and Five to One the Doors only solidified their position as some writers said, "the only band worth listening too." The Doors 4th album the Soft Parade met with controversy among fans and critics due to its inclusion of brass and string instrument arrangements, as opposed to the more rock and blues roots. Most of the songs on the Soft Parade were written by Robbie Kreiger as Morrison was busy putting the finishing touches on two books of poetry. Many people missed the Doors parody of Camp Meetings and/or Evangelical Christianity in this album but it's funny as hell. Tell All the People the Soft Parade The 1970 release of Morrison Hotel marked a return to blues/acid-rock sound that Doors fans had come to love. The strategy worked though none of the singles on the album were a big hits, the album established the band as a favorite of critics. Roadhouse Blues Indian Summer LA Woman was the last Doors album released with Jim Morrison before his death in July 1971. The album's style is arguably the most hard rock blues-like of the band's albums- and arguably their best album. Been Down So Long LA Woman ____________________________________________________________________________ Jim Morrison 1943 - 1971 If you liked this profile of the Doors, let me know and I'll do more profiles on classic bands. Now I'm gonna go drive fast, smoke and listen to some loud, angry rock. Peace y'all.

A few notes about the profiles: I will take each band and present its original albums in chronological order. I will list the year of the album release and show its most common album cover. Each album will link to Google Music to show a list of tracks on the album and independent reviews. Where possible, I will use U-tube or other video provider to show classic tracks from the albums. Hot links to U-tube or Google Music appear in red. I suggest opening them in a new tab in Firefox or IE6+. Typical format: Descriptive blurb about the album with link to google music album year and critical reception. track 1 link track 2 link __________________________________________________________________________ I hope you enjoy these as much as I did putting them together. It has turned out to be a labor of love.

We get a lot of stupid ideas watching old movies and believing that is the way romance ought to be. This is why so many people are hung up on gay marriage. It doesn't matter what you do- come, go, stay, lay or pray: you aren't going to please everyone nor will gay marriage make you respectable in the eyes of our detractors. The best solution is to do what you and your partner are comfortable with.

I find that shrinks are so much easier to deal with when you just up and tell them I'm Psychotic. They make a point of trying NOT to piss you off and give you all sorts of good drugs. I just wish I could get the psychotic handicapped sticker for my car.

I think falling for your best friend is something that GLBT people in their teens really need to watch out for. Falling for your best friend is one of the oldest ways in the book to get hurt for gay people. Since only 4-10% of the population is gay, the probability that your best friend is gay is about 10% or less. Not only do you risk losing someone with whom you are in love with, losing your best friend is a one-two punch that is hard as hell to get over. I guarantee that it will leave a scar you won't soon forget. What happens to a lot of young gay people is that they get hurt in this way over and over. Soon they begin to associate love with pain and say f**K-it. That's how a lot of people in the club and cruise scene got there: their experience has shown them that gay love is either unreal or simply too painful to bear. Their love life becomes a series of one night stands and quickies without any emotion content. Not only is this grossly unfulfilling, bed-hopping can be deadly. Take care with your heart. It can only take so much punishment. Pain is a cruel teacher because its lesson are only taught after you have screwed to pooch.

Beast from the X-men was a favorite of mine from my miss spent youth. I identified with him: BIG and DANGEROUS but intelligent and gentle. Qualities that I try to have but find them increasingly elusive. Over time the avatar has become something of an enigma: am I the man that became a beast or a beast that became a man? I dunno anymore. Only time will tell. Will I ever find the Beauty that can tame my rage? I doubt it. I wouldn't want someone I care about that close to the flame.

I would hate the perfect guy. Perfection just pisses me off.

I am open to the idea of staying with someone for life but I avoid politics and fads in my personal life like plague and fire in that order.

I came for the stories and stayed for the remarkable collection of very special people that we've accumulated here- far too many for one short bus.

Why ruin perfectly good sex and friendship with marriage? Besides, have you LOOKED at any married people lately?

I don't mind at all. To use my native Southern dialect, I'm tickled to death that you found it useful.

You didn't miss much but a horrible traffic jam. Certified Retirement Community means that nothing is going on here, ever went on here or is likely to occur here. -
-Do you think people (straight or gay) are prone to falling in love with their best friend? Or is this just over-represented in the forum. I think that it is a phase that gay/bi people go through. -Do you think GLBT people are more likely to experience this than straight people? Of course. -Has it happened to you or someone you know? of course. -Why do you think it happens in general? proximity -Overall is it a good thing or a bad thing, and why? Typically it is a recipe for disaster.

JamesSavik is the pseudonym under which I write on the net. It's also how I'm identified on the many sites I haunt. Savik is a name of Sweedish origin. In Smith county Mississippi, where my people are from, there are a great many people of Sweedish extraction: big blond farm people. They were originally supposed to go to Minnesota but bought a compass from a street dealer in New York.

Listen to lesfeuxdemoncoeur: he is as smart as he is cute which is quite the rare combination. Someone should scoop him up before he gets away. Falling Star: Believe me- I know that being gay and going to high school are loads of fun. A lot of GLBT kids drop out because it is a real rough ride. You really do need a diploma or a GED to get any kind of job. I know that where you are now, it seems like everything is uphill. It is. The only way out is to pick a route and keep going. Try not to get negative and create excuses for why you can't get things done. You can get things done- just don't quit! You can. Your posts have been clear with reasonably good spelling and English. You can easily handle a computer. Your brain obviously isn't broken- you should easily be able to handle getting a GED. You might want to get a study guide but many GED programs will provide one. If not, I will buy you one on Amazon and send it to you. Accomplishing your goals starts with believing in yourself and your ability. That often starts with someone else telling you: believe in you.

I saw it today and enjoyed it! I enjoy a scary movie but I especially like one that is smart and original. Although it had some seriously creepy aspects, it was a bad ass film! What did you think???
