Oh boy has that come home to me in recent years. Watching someone you love going through that kind of inner pain, especially when they start to self destruct is hard hard hard. The primal instinct is to help, to try to talk them out of it or just DO something, but there is nothing to do but stand back and hope for the best until they come to you

David Bowie was my hero growing up Sadly, I agree that true change often comes through pain, catastrophe or consequence and it certainly does in my stories. One of the reasons, I think, is that people are more likely to speak freely and speak the truth when under extreme stress. All too often we fool ourselves first which leads to fooling others, or at least trying to, whether we know it or not. It's often joked that it wouldn't be a story of mine without a hospital bed and that's probably true because I find that situations like that, with personal tragedy tend to bring out truths and emotions that otherwise would never have come to the surface.

We all make mistakes. Holding on to illusions about our parents can be one of them, and was in Josh's case. He knew how hateful they could be but he held on to the fact that they were loving to him - even though only on their terms. I don't think what happened will be ultimately damaging for Josh. False idols almost always fall in the end and at least he has support and understanding when dealing with his illusions being shattered. I don't believe Josh is the sort of person who would ultimately harbour bitterness and anger about his parents. Perhaps he might have been but Daniel would never let that happen

Thank you so much for taking the time to review. I'm going through a bit of a crisis of "why bother writing" at the moment so these reviews really are important to me. Daniel is in an impossible situation. He knows that quoting the bible won't make any difference, and unlike with Josh's parents he is under real threat here. He won't give in but he won't rock the boat too much either, at least this early on when he's still feeling things out.

Loved the endings - both of them. A very nice story. A bit rushed at the end but it all wrapped up nicely.

Yes, definitely, absolutely, for sure. Kellen is exactly what Cid needs. Like has been said, he's the exact opposite of Billy and perfect for Cid. As tough as he tries to be, Cid is a wounded child and needs someone to watch out for him, not someone who cried every time he tries to be honest.

Yep, Frank is definitely the man. I feel for Cid and I want him to be happy but not with Billy, at least not the way things are now.

I continue to think Frank is the best man for Billy. Cid is starting to thaw but he needs therapy and a man who is much stronger than Billy to handle the fallout.

Billy's finally thinking straight, and I think he's dead right to switch his attention from Cid to Frank. Why do I get the feeling it's not going to stay that way? I like Frank. I've liked him from the start, and I think that given the chance Frank and Billy could make something together. Ah well, let's see.

Cid is being honest. Cid has always been honest, at least with Billy and in the best way he can. Cid has said repeatedly, right from the start, that he's not the guy for Billy, but Billy just won't take no for an answer. He keeps coming for Cid and when he doesn't get his own way, he runs away in tears. This is not a healthy relationship and Cid is definitely not to blame for the issues Billy has. Billy needs to grow the hell up and Cid needs help to get him out of the dark place he's wallowing in.

Hmm not sure what I think about that. Can a gay guy not have straight male friends, or even gay friends who don't have to be boyfriends? Why is Billy's father automatically pairing him up with Frank, just because he does business and Billy knows more about him than he does about Cyd? At no point did Billy suggest that Frank was anything more than a friend yes his father immediately jumped on it. Okay there are a few signs that Frank might like Billy as more than a friend but nothing has sparked there. Billy's an idiot and from seeing his parents it's obvious where he gets it.
