This story is not an easy one. It contains scenes of drug use, sexual abuse and forced, non-consensual sex. Readers should be aware of them, and exercise appropriate caution.

What happens when a predator suddenly becomes the prey? Will they be able to adapt? Or will it be their downfall?

The subject matter was handled with care, and appropriate content warnings were included at the beginning of each chapter for those who may be affected. Prospective readers should heed the content warnings and continue with caution.

I didn't feel that the rape scenes were excessive or gratuitous, and I was able to get through them fine for the most part. They had a greater purpose within the story: making one feel sympathy for The Predator. While The Predator's past actions were despicable, I don't think he deserved what happened to him. I ended up rooting for The Predator, which might not have happened if these scenes were not included.

One Piece, eh? Didn't expect Ellie to be an weeb, haha.

The Predator managed to remain nameless (not counting "Wally") for over half of the story! The timing of the reveal was great, too.

I could go on and on about how I loved Grasped and how Scott falling into the ocean ended up being a turning point for him. Plenty of symbolism and metaphors (as those in the comments have stated, baptism, "The Predator" being washed away into the sea and Scott re-emerging in his place, etc...) were used to great effect, even if some of it was not intentional.

Marc and Lee being present at the party in Mated was a nice callback. Very appropriate for them to be there, considering that they were part of the few people who were willing to show The Predator mercy.

Scott's characterization underwent a complete transformation from his Predator days to his engagement with Graham, and not once did any part of it feel unrealistic.

Dislikes

I don't believe it was ever explained how Kenny tracked down Scott to the Feigenbaum? I suppose it can be easily explained away with something like how Marquez had sources or something similar, so it's not a big deal.

Verdict

It was a joy to witness The Predator be reborn into a "true" human with feelings and emotions.

I realize that the subject matter may turn some people off from reading Predator Prey, but I really think that everyone that is able to should at least give it a chance.

Highly recommended.

5 stars.

It's difficult to write a comprehensive review without giving away details. Suffice to say, this was wonderfully written, and a very satisfying read. The scenarios, while harsh at times, were presented in a powerful and believable way. Kudos to the author. I highly recommend taking this journey. You will not be disappointed. :)

Truly satisfying tale.

Be prepared to go from praying for fate to act in the most heinous way against "Scot", the predator, to praying that divine intervention will somehow save "Wally", the prey.

Read as  the heart of this heartless, ruthless, uncaring, blight upon society is laid bare with the callous dispassion of a coroner wielding rib shears. It is almost magical how the lifeless is reanimated and we learn to love the undeserving even as he learns to love himself, for the first time.

I don't read poetry. I can't say why I scrolled through three pages of poetry submissions looking for something in prose I could read by this author. I am so glad I did and I know you will be too.
