Inspired by AC’s Ghazal prompt using the final speech from the movie ‘The Great Dictator’.

 

I don’t want to rule, or hate.
I don’t want to conquer, raid.

 

Greed is poisoning men’s souls,
leaves the heart a barren state.

 

Technical evolution
should not divide but conflate.

 

Hate will pass, dictators die,
and power they will abate.

 

Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavers!
Tear down walls and crash the gate!

 

People do have the power!
Life is for us to create.

 

Work, future, security—
needs dictators never sate.

 

Let us fight to free the world!
Soldiers! Let us weed out hate!

 

(I don’t think I did this great speech justice, but I tried.)

to be trampled on,
ridiculed,
ripped out,
but instead he got kissed,
a short taste of ‘what was never meant to be’
that helped him to move on.

Surely, the time must be coming when you will really want to spend your life with someone?

Yes, but no one wants to share their life with me.

Can anybody find me somebody to love?

The more I open up, the more I get hurt.

(I try and I try and I try)

Basically I’m just riddled with scars and I just don’t want any more.

(I got no feel, I got no rhythm)

(I keep losing my beat.)

I’m petrified of being alone.

(I’m all right.)

I like to shut myself away, but I wouldn’t want to be on a desert island.

(One day I’m gonna be free.)

(Find me somebody to love.)

until beautiful words melt it away,

Thank you, Val. I couldn't have done this without your input. Dead Pout's Society is a great film and I almost didn't dare to take a scene and write a poem, lol.

Val's prompt give my chaotic thoughts structure. I have pieces of films in my head and I don't know how to sort them. Charlie Chaplin's speech always makes me cry...and determined. We don't need to speak about Dead Poets Society...
