Haiku, Secret, and Wisdom - 1. Chapter 1 Wisdom
Haiku
#1
Wind stretches its wings
and weak branches fall to earth,
carving new sun paths
#2
Cataclysmic change,
often unavoidable,
could well have purpose
#3
Leaves fall gracefully
as so many things can do,
but I am not one
#4
Rain drenches granite,
revealing depth of color
until the sun comes
#5
Mud blankets her grave,
and she’d wear it with great glee,
were she still alive
#6
Grass seeds, like blankets,
will give comfort to this man
whose steed lays beneath
#7
Trilled song in the pine
signals the joy to be had
in the weeks to come
#8
Fresh evening snow
betrays the dance of the hares
beneath a full moon
#9
Elves peer out at dust,
careful to hide their magic
from us mere mortals
#10
A slither through grass
can awaken our caution
for what warmed earth brings
#11
Hail slams onto metal
with a deafening display,
making us scamper
#12
Our souls do cry out
like wild birds calling for spring,
needing renewal
#13
A thorn will draw blood
if you rush without respect
to fairest roses
#14
There is much to learn
from the secret world of life
thriving ‘neath our feet
#15
Connection is hard
when asphalt is your playground,
and views are shuttered
Secret
There is a secret I’ve slowly learned
A truth unknown while young years burned
Long before I was this word-laden hack
Certain of the circle that had my back
Alas, few will survive me to speak my name
And only now do I face this gospel of the game
That it’s always been me once the world falls away
The only sure thing is to my end I will stay
I wish I’d figured sooner I was that one
Might have chosen different those years I had none
Love for others does make worlds go round
But love for myself feels a gift too-late found
I could have been selfish, for who was to judge
Thrown away those binds that wouldn’t let me budge
Grabbed hold of that ring and taken what I sought
Not other’s keeper in the way I once thought
I suppose it’s all about falling on my sword
A life lived for others is not without reward
Yet I see it all now, and I will not complain
Some of my best moments came despite all the rain
Wisdom
Asked for advice
I will expound
Though regards myself
My wisdom is bound
Back and forth
My thoughts will flail
Unless about others
Of that you can avail
My blind spot pertains
Only to me
And I’ll make choice for you
With all certainty
Would that I had
A magic looking glass
Such tool to surely help
The covering of my own ass
But all I possess
Are diamonds for my friends
A clear, piercing eye
To suss out what offends
Oh yes, I am clever
Enough to separate the chaff
Except in my own life
For in that I am daft
