Breathless and Mendacity - 1. Chapter 1 Breathless

Some sexual reference here

Breathless

I hunger for that

which renders me breathless,

erupting my skin in pebbled bliss

and inducing a salty sheen of sweat,

the taste on the tongue

an explosion of carnal delight

Slick moisture adorning scalps,

sleek, taut flanks,

and pooling along furrowed muscle

as my skin absorbs the scent of another,

changing my own to a heady mixture

telling me I’m part of a whole

Ravenous fingers slide, glide, grip

and explore,

given license by mutual looks of need

I yearn for such shared contact

and sinuous movement

which brings to life

the joy in our design

Wicked in its pleasure

and sublime in its repleteness

That satiety beyond measure

after delicious culmination,

almost beyond comprehension

to those uninitiated

in the ways of such communion

We can exist alone, surely,

but it not be our best nature,

a snub of the touch of God

So, before the time comes

we are left with only memories,

know this!

Don’t waste what

has been infused in our cells

since the crawl from the muck

Don’t deprive yourself

Of the greatest wonder

in this known world

—Love, the breathless passion

it awakens, and the ride it takes us on

Mendacity

I was born and raised on a cusp

of innocence and enlightenment

The world was changing

and did so with unprecedented haste,

as if the world had been holding its breath

...waiting...

Too much for some

and not enough for others

Many eyes opened willingly,

but some minds remained tightly closed,

and those unable to nurture love

or hold compassion for others

…waited…

through many seasons,

biding their time

while practicing their mendacity

And now there is a new precipice,

and small minds

carrying resentment,

bigotry,

racism,

and hate

have regained a hold

Mendacity is rampant,

even exalted

by craven cultish networks,

and the goal is meanness,

the target

anyone who scares them,

or doesn’t fit

what they’re told by straw men,

or with an empowered

collection of pages

twisted in knots to suit

Will we ascend from our fall

into this growing chasm of intolerance

and lies?

...I wait, holding my breath...

and despair there is no way to know

The only thing certain

is that evil walks the earth

with new purpose,

fed by ‘God’s’ supposed ‘higher’ creatures

in their viciously varied forms

Turning mankind inward

to a seething pit of unholiness

...while we wait...

Decisions

I have agonized, to my distress

Over options not fairly cut and dried

To gain is sometimes to lose

And from such there’s no way to hide

I envy those who bear no regret

Whose conviction never wavers

Would that I had been so lucky

For freedom has granted few favors

Some paths, no matter how clear

Can quickly find their dead-end

Other choices, while murky and twisting

Give scant affirmation as we wend

It is so easy to over-ponder

The untaken forks in the road

But in the end, we are who we are

And decisions are part of our load

Spilling milk may teach or not

But we can always wipe up the waste

Who’s to say what was right or wrong

Hindsight won’t change the choices we’ve faced

These are thought-provoking. Each has its own wise message learned over a lifetime. I've read each twice, but I'm sure to return to read them again. Thank you for each of these, Gary.

What a scathing observation of our current condition!

You said it so well. Your words convey so well the agony that comes from contemplating current wreckages of previous ideals ...

I would always like to remind myself that 'while there's life there's hope' ...

But then the ancient and disturbing thought intrudes, that 'those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad' ...

('quem deus vult perdere prius dementat' and other versions).

Blessings on you in the meantime  T

Breathless left me, indeed, breathless. It  was beautiful and sensual. Decisions made me feel the weight of years and choices made. If I think about them too much, I may suffocate. Mendacity made raised my ire and my blood pressure. Organized bigotry for corporate profit is a scourge on our time. Thanks a million for all three.

Absolutely it is. I feel the bleakness of the times, and despair at the slide backwards to new and dangerous horizons. Lying, back then, wasn't as commonplace as it is now. Moral compasses have gone wacky and hatred flourishes. :(  Thanks, James. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Cheers! G.

Blessings on you too, T. There certainly is the taint of madness in the world, isn't there? What an apt comment. I always try to give hope in my prose, but poetry expresses much that can't have a bow put on it. What pours out can be about beauty and love, but there can also be fear. I've lived a long time, and I've never trusted our gains. In this instance, I hate being right. Thank you, friend, for giving and sharing thought for these offerings. Cheers! G.

Thanks, Parker. Breathless was my balance for Mendacity. Decisions, yeah. I suppose many of us play the game of 'what if?'. There is no going back, but there is no escaping those swirls of thought either. If only....

Thanks for taking the time to digest these little offerings. Cheers!

Loved them all, but Mendacity was truly brilliant.

Thank you, centex, and thank you for your kindness in leaving a review. Mendacity is an authentic offering if ever there was one. The world scares me... not for me... but for the generations to come. It also angers me, and the anger is uncomfortable. I'm so glad you felt it, and that it meant something to you. Cheers!

Gary, "Breathless" is beautiful and erotic.  It draws you in and fills your mind with countless images.

"Mendacity" is powerful, and even scary, because it honestly expresses the 'sign of the times' .  Its what many of us have to deal with on a daily basis.

Thank you for sharing these two vastly different poems.

Hey, Bill. Thanks for reading and commenting. I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed these... and yes, they are vastly different, and I hoped that one balanced the other for most readers. "Mendacity" is definitely scary... it reveals my fear as much as anything else. The truth used to be an absolute, and now it has become something tied to perception. THAT is truly scary. Breathless is personal, but it is also a message to those who hide behind their screens and forgo interaction with others. That seems to be more prevalent in these times, and my experience is there is no substitute for real physical intimacy... nor for the chase. :)

Cheers, my friend.
