Loving Fiercely: How I Resist - 7. Chapter 7: Gay Stories

Written about being the owner and creator of your story, this piece is dedicated to all of you!

Speaking of reality

Does anyone ask us ours?

“Experts” paint pictures of who

they think we are, but do they

ever ask us who we are?

Our stories have been taken

Appropriated, whited

out, and spoken of by those

who don’t know us. We are the

mistakes, the unmentioned, the

abused. We are considered

tragic, but there is nothing

tragic about our being.

Let us OWN our stories here

Let’s talk about the love we

give and the love we receive

Let’s talk about our heartbreak

And the healing we did to

put it all back together

Let’s talk about family

And the friends who stayed around.

Let’s talk about the ones we

let go, and the ones we had

allowed ourselves to forgive.

Let’s talk about when we were

stuck in the past, and worried

for the future. When we lived

for the present, each minute

or two

Let’s talk about our hurt, let’s

talk about our healing, let’s

celebrate every breath and

unapologetically

living

Let’s take ownership of our

stories, knowing we are not

to be pitied, but loved and

celebrated for our gay

and resilient spirits

Chapter Comments

I am not to be pitied. I am Gay and i'm proud and i'm happy. In some ways that's helped by geography and a country that messed up but is trying to make it right. I am lucky to be married to a Gay man who will not hide in the corner. If he wants to hold my hand or kiss me in public he does. I pull from his strength.

No more whitewashing of our stories, or of us, no more 'roommates' or remaining a bachelor (oh how sad) ... no, no more.
