A Storm is Brewing - 1. A Storm is Brewing

A Storm is Brewing

The tension’s rising, it is plain to see
Treated unequal, will no longer be
Too long we’ve waited, for the time to pass
We will not settle, to be second-class

The Founders told us, in words very clear
We’re created equal, a fact we hold dear
Some may deny us, and claim we are not
They do what they can, they plan and they plot

The time has now come, no longer we’ll wait
We won’t be abused, by those filled with hate
We demand our rights, as proclaimed in law
No longer waiting, for men’s hearts to thaw

A storm is brewing, it is clear to see
We seek what is just, we wish to live free
If we want to wed, it should be our right
To choose who we want, without a huge fight

The heart is fickle, it has one desire
The love that it feels, it burns like a fire
You cannot tell it, the one it should choose
For if you do that, you will surely lose

A storm is brewing, the day has arrived
We will not tremble, we won’t be deprived
The wound has festered, it is ready to break
It’s time for action, our freedom’s at stake

Equality calls, and justice beckons
To claim what is right, we’ve learned our lessons
We’ll accept no less, we’ll show our mettle
We want what is fair, we will not settle

It is time we seek, what others enjoy
Be able to choose, no ruse and no ploy
Accept nothing less, we want what is just
Treated like others, is surely a must.

A wish to thank Rachel, Joann and Emoe for their kind assistance with this poem.

Direct and purposeful. You handle the rhyme well. It's tough to do that so smoothly. thanks for sharing.

Thanks, RJ. It can get tricky when you're counting syllables and trying to get the rhyme correct. Thanks for the feedback.
