Fifteen year old Josh has been living, unhappily, with his grandfather for the three years since his mother died. Major events occur in his life as he approaches his sixteenth birthday.

This may not always be a comfortable read.

A story well told about the sometimes harsh realities of surviving our youth. Ivor didn't reinvent the wheel, but he told this tale with understanding and compassion, and made us care for his characters. I recommend investing a little bit of time in this one. Cheers!

Response from the author:

Thanks for the Review @Headstall. As you say nothing here that hasn't happened before and sadly will happen again, but the main character emerged due to his own strength and the support of the boy he thought he had lost.

A brief glimpse into two lives affected by chance, circumstance, and misunderstanding, made right by patience, exploration, determination...and love!

A quick read, and a worthwhile one!  :)

Response from the author:

Thanks for the Review @Geron Kees. It may be hard to read about such things, but there is usually light at the end of the tunnel - and not that of an oncoming train.🙂

A tale of two best friends told in a straightforward way.Circumstances which was a combination of beyond one's control combined with a mistake in another one's judgement  separated the friends but a combination of love and forgiveness overcame that. A somewhat complicated situation told in a non complicated way

Response from the author:

Thanks for the Review @weinerdog. While my plots may get complex I do try to write in a straightforward way, so glad to know I succeeded here.

Many mistakes are made in our youth, some with dire consequences.  Ivor's beautiful short tale relates one of these mistakes, and how the strength, loyalty and love of a best friend helps Josh overcomes the adversity and its consequences.

Response from the author:

Appreciate the review @raven1. You have summed up exactly what I was hoping to achieve.

This was a beautifully told story of loss, bullying, deceit, anger, love and friendship. Josh was born into a very poor family in a very conservative rural community. After the death of his mother he lives with his grandfather, who is emotionally, verbally and physically abusive. The only bright spot in his life is Ethan his best friend. When he is left alone during an illness, the bullies conspire to sexually abuse him and embarrass him in front of the entire community. Ethan stands  by his friend and shows  him the  support and love he has been craving. Very well  written with a fully developed storyline as well as characters who are also fully developed  and fully believable. Thank you! ❤️

Response from the author:

I appreciate your review @flesco

I'm pleased that you took from the story what I was trying to convey about Josh's life.

Short and sweet. I think the comment I left says enough:

A touching story of a friendship that hit some bumps, but ended up with love. It deserves all 5 stars it got.

Response from the author:

Your review is appreciated.

I know it was a 'dark' story which some may have found upsetting, but even in darkness light can sometimes be found with the right support.

Another amazing story from @Ivor Slipper.

This one touches on some hard hitting topics, that are unfortunately they can ocour in our youth, because of peer pressure.

But they were handled with care, which ultimately showed that patience and love can be a big help.

Response from the author:

I was hoping to show that while not always the case, there is often light at the end of the tunnel. Josh was one of the lucky ones, due to a combination of his own strength and the love of his best friend, Ethan.
