NaPoWriMo - 2. Days 4 to 7

Well here are days 4 to 7... enjoy maybe

April 4, 2016

Time Passing

The sands of time do swiftly flow

Leaving me more past than future

I hope my time left is brighter

There’s so much more I want to know

I’ve sown the seeds I had to sow

Wasted my time reading Chaucer

Never was much of a dreamer

Time now for my spirit to grow

Patience and insight teaches us

To look for the glorious Spark

See beyond the hopeless blackness

Do not be afraid of the dark

Live your life with daring fierceness

A journey on which we embark

Day 4 Prompt:

Today I challenge you to write a poem in which you explore what you think is the cruelest month, and why.

January’s bite is cruelest

Midwinter storms and heavy snow

Leave us in shades of black and white

Oh, where did all the colour go?

In this, the bleakest month of all

I'd rather hibernate not play

Snuggle under my eiderdown

Keep this desolate month at bay

January I'd rather skip

And the rest of old winter too

Give me summer's rainbows and warmth

I'm ready for a barbeque!

April 5, 2016 A couple of silly limericks my style.. probably not great form.

There was a young man named Tim

Who’d never been to the gym

So off he went

And he met a gent

Who kissed him on a whim.

There was a young man name Ike

Who never rode a bike

He bought one today

And he was heard to say

I think I’d rather ride Mike.

Prompt for Day 5: Today, I challenge you to spend some time looking at the names of heirloom plants, and write a poem that takes its inspiration from, or incorporates the name of, one or more of these garden rarities.

Summer's Rainbows

Oh, how I long for summer's bounty

Gifts from our overflowing garden

Beautiful things like apples and pears

Vegetables that make my mouth sing

But what most reminds me of summer

Are thick-stemmed heirloom tomatoes

Their wonderful colours and odd names

Like Old Yellow, Green Sausage, Pink Grape

I await their appearance with joy

Watching their colours slowly appear

From the laden branches we'll pluck them

Serve them sliced—rainbows on our plates

April 6, 2016 Acrostic ... there's a little message in this.. the first letter from each line put together contains a message... frankly it's just nonsense... but it made me chuckle.

Happy is he who knows his mind

Ever, he is more than kind

Little things he wants to share

Like the gray in your hair

Oh don’t slap him very hard

All can tell he’s no bard

Let’s all tell him what we think

Leave him alone, or give him a drink

Day 6 Prompt: Today, I challenge you to write a poem about food. This could be a poem about a particular food, or about your relationship to food in general.

Lunchy Brunchy Limerick

There was an invitation to brunch

But isnt’ that just fancy lunch?

You said no it’s not

But as long as it’s hot

I’ll be there to munch.

April 7, 2016 More non-serious goofy stuff.. Todays prompt.. well its a rough one and I'll work on it ...

Hard and Growing

I love men that you know

They have things that love to grow

How dare I, is what you say

I’m not sure, you know I’m gay

But I like them long and firm

Oh does that make you squirm?

Stop those mucky thoughts your thinking

But this is fun, and I’m only joking

But I think we should remember

It is time to plant cucumber!

Meat

I wait.

Dressed in denim—hiding nothing

My t-shirt skinny and threadbare

I am sex for sale.

I stand.

On display, yours for fifty dollars

Use me, abuse me, throw me back

I am only meat.

A few poems for your reading, well I want to say pleasure, but I promise nothing!

Definitely a reading pleasure! The poetic discipline you show for "Time Passing" is truly impressive. Your metre is set, your line lengths are all even, your rhymes are natural – AND – the meaning of the verse is personal and touching. It's a fine poem.

The same structural praise goes for the January verse. And 'rainbows on our plates' makes me smile every time I see it.

I like the many humorous poems in this collection, and the Cucumber one is my fave.

"Meat" is sad and devastating, and you need only a few words for maximum impact.

Very well done!

Very nice. I am so not good at poetry so I am amazed when I see it done well and so quickly.

Hey Emri...wow thanks for reading these.. not very polished these but it's fun and a challenge. Well if you're interesting in learning how to write poetry.. AC has a wonderful series of prompts to make it easier. And then there's the Live Poets Society.. bunch of mad poets! Thanks for the review, glad these worked for you!!

Loved the Ike riding Mike poem! lol (Or should it be Tim riding Mike...:P)

The January poem was really good, and I totally agree -- let's get rid of all those pesky winter months! lol

Meat was of course sad, especially since it unfortunately happens every day.

You have quite the talent for poetry, Tim :)

Lol, Michael gets what he wants! Glad you enjoyed these. I rather like the January one also.

Thanks again!
