Abhean's Verses - 5. April 29 to April 31

Here is the final coda to this year's NaPoWriMo offerings. I hope you enjoyed at least one of them. Errors you may find are of my own making and doing.

April 29

To Eros

Love, come away

and every care upon the grass discard

that we amongst the flowers may delight

to sport and play

while trading tokens of our shared regard

beneath a sunny sky so blue and bright

and dance a capriole

to make the spirit whole;

Sing, lyric bard,

of touch to make a stony heart take flight

or introverted older ones cajole –

men who seem scarred,

by grinding decades of relentless fight

within themselves, and mindful of the toll

from insight’s long delay

that turns their heads to grey.

Let me extol

Caresses from your hand that must excite

My beating heart to do just as you say

While your lips dole

Sweet kisses on my own I’ll long requite

against your frame wherever I might stray

upon your skin unmarred

To features soft and hard;

Spring days invite

our presence at a feast none overstay

where April lovers meet, auspicious-starred,

and so incite

sweet Eros in the acts we might assay

reclining in the flower speckled yard

and whisper comforts droll

defeating self-control.

April 30

Psalm

Now let us raise a psalm to spring,

a hymn of praise for rains that bring

the blossoms on the apple trees

and bright mergansers on the wing.

For breaking bud our melodies

re-echo on the morning breeze,

afloat through forest, field and fen

to lodge in any heart you please.

Our song can celebrate the wren,

the thrush and blackbird in the glen,

and warming earth in sun’s embrace

that sees the world reborn again.

Of winter’s silence there’s no trace,

as spring’s sweet anthem must replace

the moan of cold wind wuthering

with every greening sign of grace.

April 31

Coda

The last gasp

of such a foolish month

as April often turns out to be

with its on-again, off-again storms and sunshine

arrives not on the very first day

but on that fictitious

finale.

Once again, thanks for taking time to read and consider these. If any tickle your fancy enough to read aloud to yourself, I will be wreathed in smiles.

I can just imagine singing the Psalm - to what tune, I'm not sure.  Whereas, To Eros, aches to be declaimed. On the stage maybe, or some corner of the Parthenon.  How you managed, every day, to summon up inspiration and put it into practice, is in its turn inspirational.

Thank you very much. This is the first time in a long while that I felt my own prompting for each day. Some days were more inspired than others, I fear. If anyone declaims To Eros, I’d love to be in the back row, listening!

You certainly had a tumultuous spring, weather-wise, whereas spring here in Orlando, FL, was very dry with beautiful clear days.  (We could definitely use some of the rain you had!)

I truly admire your ability to use words that evoke such visions and emotions!  Thank you always for sharing your talent!

I’d love to send you some of today’s rain… and tomorrow’s. Thank you for your encouragement and kind words.

Wow! As you know, it takes me weeks to write anything worth posting, and you were able to write every day for a month! You are both an inspiration to me and a pain in the ass because I know I can't do what you do. 😃

You’ve made my day with your responses. Thanks a million for reading these and for taking time to comment. I’ll admit that April 29 was a real bear to write - again, my thanks!
