Impressions and Reflections - 12. Poem 12: The Tears of Solitude

Sometimes the road is lonely.

The Tears of Solitude

Knowing what I want but being unable to have it anywhere near my grasp
The tears sometimes come to me in the light of day or in the dark night
I am only human with the desires that flood my ambivalent heart and soul
Why these thoughts will not leave I shall not know any time soon

Knowing what reality is but being unable to tell my heart that the answer is no
The tears remind me of what I need more than anything else in the universe
I am only a kind-hearted man in search of a man who can make me feel complete
Why they always escape may be the least of my worries in my life

Knowing that I shall someday find him, the one who will make it all worthwhile
The tears remind me of how I need to be in the loving arms on the cold night
I am only a young and virile man with a zest for passion beyond his own control
Why I cannot let it be is the question that boggles my mind forever more

Knowing that I must leave this place in order to find the love I need more than air
The tears sometimes dim my eye as the lonely days never seem to reach an end
I am only waiting for him to rescue me from the solemn road of painful remembrance
Why the rescue cannot happen sooner is a question I am not able to answer
