This story welcomes back old friends and introduces us to Lee.  We get to follow his journey from abused, addicted sex worker to self reliance.  This is a wonderful addition to the Camp Refuge saga.

Response from the author:

Thanks for the great review.

Lee started as pretty one dimensional, and I'm glad his evolution appealed to you. I can't say much more without giving away plot, so I'll leave off replying more. 🙂

Editing this book has been a pleasure and a privilege. Lee's journey is a difficult and painful one, filled with obstacles; some of his own making, and some placed there by others. He believes he's undeserving of love and affection, but there are plenty of people who'll show him that's not true, if he lets them. And watching Avery grow and learn and come into his own was heartwarming.

A wonderful story of growth and redemption.

Response from the author:

Thanks for the great editing job, Thorn, and for the nice comments on the story.

I wanted to do something new (for me, at least). And Lee pushed me in ways no other character has. For that alone, I'm glad I took on this project.

Here we go with another story in our favourite campsite, Camp Refuge.

As with all the stories about Camp Refuge we again deal with some hard hitting topics, we deal with sex work and drugs in this story, but they are well researched, written about with care and attention to detail.

In this story we meet a young man Lee, who is surviving as a sex worker and dependent on drugs. A Broken young man.

After a run in with the law, Officer Joseph, he is rescued from the streets and taken to Camp Refuge to try and rehabilitate him.

We meet all the usual suspects at the campsite. Greg makes a real effort to help Lee and get himself interested in cooking and Avery takes a shine to Lee and trys to become his friend.

This story has many twists and turns throughout the story, some good, some bad as we see if Lee is to Broken to save. A rather surprising twist with the ending.

Another fantastic story from @Wayne Gray in the lives of the residents of Camp Refuge.

This story comes highly recommended as do all the Camp Refuge stories.

Response from the author:

Thank you, Chris.

When first met, Lee certainly lives up to the title. Does he at the end? I suppose it depends on who is doing the reading.

A twist at the end? I'm not sure what you could mean! 😄

Another wonderful story in the adventures of the gang at Camp Refuge.

Lee's story is is about learning life's lessons the hard way. It's about youth and the choices that have to be made on the tough road to adulthood. It's also about finding friendship and learning that there are people out there that you can trust, learn from, and most of all love.

Kudos Wayne.

Response from the author:

Thanks for taking the time to review!

I think you nailed it with your description concerning Lee's approach to life's lessons. Some people have to learn the hard way, and he's one of those.

I can't comment more, really without giving stuff away. Curses!

Another very good Camp Refuge story.  This is more a novella, but has all the characteristics of Wayne's longer stories.  Lee's life is dark with no promise of a future.  Officer Wells is aware of his situation and watches him closely.  Wells uses a drug and alcohol induced hit to Wells' head as a reason to intervene and takes Lee to Camp Refuge.  There are good times and bad in store for Lee as he detoxes there and starts to find a new life.  There are many challenges and failures as this tale unfolds.  This story is very realistic and a bit darker than the other tales in the series, but just as good.  Since it is short, it might be a good sample to the rest of the series.  It is an excellent read.
