Dawn - 4. Chapter 4

Chapter 4
Boys

-I feel like I've been wanting you all my life.

The three boys arrived at the ice cream parlor that Jacob’s parent’s friend, Chace, owned. Chace was the only other person that Jacob knew that was gay. His boyfriend was TJ. TJ was Mike’s best friend in high school; all of them were Hunters. As they walked into the shop, Chace came out to greet them, “Hey Jacob! Gideon. Can I help you two?”
“Yeah, we are showing our new buddy, Damian around the town and we figured we should start at the best ice cream shop in town,” Gideon explained.
Chace interrupted him, “OK, OK, you can have it half off.”
“Thanks uncle Chace. How’s TJ doing?” Jacob asked.
“He’s doing fine, he’s in Tokyo, researching stuff for better weaponry to use fighting, well, you know.” Chace said, looking as anyone does when his love is away, “But now it’s time to talk business. What can I get you boys?”
Just then Damian walked into the store, “Hi, sorry guys. I got mobbed and had to give out autographs.”
“It’s cool,” Jacob said, “we were just about to order.”
“I’ll have whatever you’re having Jacob,” Damian said smiling at Jacob.
After ordering, the three boys walked over to a table by the windows. The conversation was relatively subtle in the beginning; the usual things: what to do for fun, sports, music, etc.
“So, Damian, do you have a girlfriend?” Gideon finally asked.
Jacob looked over at Damian in realization that the look on his face answered the question completely. “No, and I don’t want one.”
“Why’s that?” Jacob asked Damian with concern.
Jacob looked deeply into Damian’s emerald eyes as Damian said, “I’m gay.”
Gideon looked over at Jacob at the same instant that Jacob looked over to him. They were speechless. Although they had already figured that out, it was still the initial shock of it that rendered them silent. Damian started to giggle.
“Sorry, it was one of them ‘awkward silences’ and those frighten me,” Damian calmly said, “You know, it’s not like you have to act all shocked, I know about you two also.”
“Well, it isn’t like we’re trying to hide it,” Gideon said snapping back into reality.
Jacob opened his mouth to say something but no sound came out. I don’t believe it; he likes guys. So that’s why he was so eager to ride with us, Jacob thought to himself.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Sierra, Jason and Kim were walking around the park later that night. It was cold. A slight breeze blew through their hair.
“Wish it were warmer,” Jason complained.
Kim giggled and Sierra said, “Why would you want that? This is perfect weather to cuddle in. Not that you’d know what I’m talking about, Jason.”
Jason looked at his feet and Kim put her arm around him, “She’s just playing around with you Jason. Besides, she’s probably just jealous because you’ve had more boyfriends than she has. You know how she likes Gideon.”
Sierra punched Kim’s arm and yelled, “Do not!” Jason smiled and looked into the sky. The stars glittered like a billion tiny fires. Suddenly all three felt a chill on their spines and Jason saw something darting between the earth and the sky.
“What the fuck?” Jason yelled and Sierra pulled out a pocketknife.
Kim grabbed hold of Jason’s arm as Sierra whispered, “Vampires. Good thing I’m training.” Then they were alone.
Sierra told Kim and Jason to drive her to Jacob’s house. Upon arrival, Sierra told Kim to drive Jason home right away and for them to stay in their beds until daybreak.
She flew the door open to the Creld residence, “Vampires!” she said as she collapsed onto the landing.
