System of a Wolf - 31. Chapter 31
A rock flipped over, sending several bugs scattering in the light. Lynn’s tail hung limply behind her as she chased the bugs. She couldn’t miss the feeling of a tail moving behind her; the neko had never felt that. But the prosthetics still helped a lot with her dysphoria.
“Damn it Erith, fucking drag Blake and I out here to help you and then you don’t even stick around…”
“You said a bad word,” Lynn giggled, looking up from the rock.
“No, I said two two bad words,” Adam said. “And you shouldn’t repeat either. Now, if you help me dig these holes, we can get this done a lot faster.”
“I dun wanna,” Lynn pouted, staring at the shovels.
She wasn’t even supposed to be out, and she knew it. Five at night was her time, but she had missed so much over the past few weeks, and Lynn was tired of hiding.
‘If you help Blake, he might give you cookies.’
“Biscuits?” Lynn blurted, looking at where Blake was working in the pond.
The mage frowned, looking up at her.
“Cookies? Did Erith say you could have cookies?” he asked, several silver fish spiralling around him as the school tried to figure out what he was.
“Yesh. But I have to help dig,” Lynn replied, a scowl crossing her face.
“Okay. You help Adam dig, and when I’m done anchoring these lilies, I’ll go make us some cookies and nice cold milk.”
“How about a bit of iced tea?” Adam suggested, watching Blake pull himself out of the water.
“Sounds like a plan,” Blake smiled, shaking himself off.
He crossed around the pond, and pulled Adam into a hug, their lips meeting briefly.
“Ew…” Lynn complained.
“Don’t ew what you don’t understand,” Blake chuckled. “Erith likes it too.”
Lynn grumbled as she stepped away from the rocks. She took the shovel Adam handed to her, scowling at the tool.
“You’re the expert. How deep do we need the holes?” Adam asked.
“I dunno. Erie knows,” Lynn pouted, climbing up to balance on the shovel head.
“Look, I’m doing this for Blake. I could leave you to dig on your own right now. I don’t think Erith would be very happy that nothing got done today, would he?”
Lynn shrugged, scowling at the dirt.
“I’m digging,” she said, shoving the shovel into the ground.
“But how deep?” Adam asked again.
‘Twelve inches for brugmansia.’
Leaning into the shovel, Lynn glared at the man.
“Erie says twelve for the bru… brug… for the trumpets,” she muttered.
“Twelve it is,” Adam said, stepping up to a small post buried just next to the pond. “Brugmansia?”
Lynn shrugged.
“We’ll dig here and hope it’s right.”
The man stabbed his shovel into the ground, loosening up the dirt as Lynn joined him. The two worked together until they had a large hole in the ground.
Adam grabbed the plant that looked like hanging trumpets, carefully removing it from the container it was in before dropping it into the hole.
“You want to loosen the roots?”
Lynn knelt, dropping her shovel as she dug her hands into the clumped dirt around the plant. Loosening the roots, she began mixing the dirt with the dirt from the hole. Adam began burying the roots again as Lynn held the plant up.
“There we go. One down, five to go,” Adam sighed as the hole was filled.
Erith supposed it was mean, taking over from Lynn before she could have her cookies. But she’d had her fun, and besides, Blake was too busy cuddling with Adam on the couch to fetch the cookies. Erith had to convince her and Gara, but finally he was in control of his body again, pulling the cookies out of the oven so they could cool.
The yard was finished. He’d glanced out the kitchen window at the landscaped pond, feeling a surge of gratefulness passing through him. This was his home now. There was nothing left of his uncle here. It was a quiet moment for him, something he knew not many would understand. For so long he’d been remembering his past, seeing his uncle every time he looked out this window. It had been near impossible to change that, but Blake had helped push him into fixing his home.
The elf set several of the cookies on a plate, pouring milk into a trio of glasses. Erith carried everything into the living room, frowning at the sight of Blake curled up on Adam’s lap.
“Excuse me, doesn’t he get enough of you at his house?”
The elf passed the cookies around, before dropping onto the far end of the couch. Instantly Blake changed positions, leaning against Erith as Adam let out a low chuckle.
“I have to admit, Lynn is a lot more agreeable than you,” the man said.
“Probably,” Erith shrugged. “I’m still figuring her out.”
“I always thought tails were offensive to nekos.”
“Yeah, try telling that to a neko without a tail. It’s not like I can stop her.”
Erith bit into a cookie, letting out a soft moan as Blake snuggled into him. His hand began stroking the man’s hair gently as they watched the tv together. Despite the presence of Adam, the elf had to admit he had never felt this loved before. Nuzzling Blake gently as they shared the cookies, Erith closed his eyes, basking in the moment.
Blake leaned against the wolf as the sun started to set. Tonight he would be heading back to Adam’s house, but there was no way he was leaving without saying goodbye to Gara.
The wolf breathed in the scents around him happily. There was love here, proper mated love, and he was in the middle of it. His tongue flicked out, licking at Blake’s leg, and the mage giggled.
“Stop it!”
Gara let out a loud huff, resting his chin on Blake’s leg as the mage pet him. This was the life. Laying with the one he loved, listening to the soft hissing of fragrant juices as food cooked, the wolf was feeling spoiled. So many weeks, months, years even, spent eating kibble, and now he had human food almost every night. Sure, Blake often spent four days at Adam’s house, but he always came back, and he always gave Gara extra hugs the first night he got back.
The wolf still felt the loss of Varen. The elf was in there somewhere, but he was not going to front again for a long time, if ever. It was painful, but Gara focused more on the members of his pack that he could feel.
His pack was happy.
“Can you wash my back?”
The mage fiddled with the lock as they approached the front door, the lock clicking just before Adam could slide his key inside. It was a game they played, letting Blake practice unusual applications of his magic. Adam seemed happy to let him have his fun.
“Of course Puppy,” Adam smiled, pushing the door open. “We’ll shower together. I’m surprisingly dirty after digging holes in a yard.”
“I can’t imagine why,” Blake snickered. “Is tonight the night?”
“Not quite yet. I know you’re anxious. It’s okay. I want to wait a little longer.”
“Are you scared?” the mage asked. “I know you want me. I can smell it.”
“A little,” Adam admitted. “I don’t want to hurt you. And there’s… a little more to it than that.”
“You want me to fuck you instead,” Blake replied, his hand running along Adam’s side.
The older man nodded.
“But not yet. I’m still getting over sharing you with Erith honestly. Well… getting used to. I don’t want you to think I don’t want to do this for you. But it’s definitely a stretch for me.”
“It’s okay Adam. I can wait,” Blake smiled. “But you can’t take a shower with this on.”
He pulled off the man’s shirt, before slipping his fingers into the waist of Adam’s shorts.
“Or these.”
The fabric fell, leaving Adam in his underpants. Blake stopped there, drinking in the sight of his mate. He would save the images for later.
“Why don’t we go get cleaned? I’m all yours right now,” he murmured, leaning in to kiss Adam gently.
Arms wrapped around the mage, pulling him into Adam as the werewolf returned his kiss hungrily. Blake could feel both of their bodies reacting, and he closed his eyes, letting his magic brush tenderly over Adam’s head as his arms rubbed the man’s back.
“Yes, I know you have magic. I’m not going to change my mind,” Adam whispered. “But we’ll still take our shower, and then we can cuddle together.”
“Deal,” Blake smiled. “I’m going to look all I want, but I promise I won’t touch unless you tell me it’s okay.”
He pulled away, leaving the ghost of a kiss on Adam’s lips.
“Why don’t you go get started? I need to put some things away and then I’ll be right in with you.”
Blake nodded happily, before racing upstairs to the bathroom. Grabbing a fluffy bathrobe from a closet, the mage stripped off his dirty clothes and tossed them into the chute that sent clothes straight to the laundry room. The shower started with the twist of a button, hot and steamy, and Blake stepped under the water, watching the dirt from the day darken the floor under him.
He reached for his toothbrush and set about cleaning every part of himself, teeth first. Once that had been taken care of, the mage shaved quickly, letting the hot water provide lubrication for his skin.
It didn’t take long before he heard the door open. The curtain was pulled back, and Blake grinned at the sight of a very naked Adam.
“Don’t even think about it. I already took care of things,” the man smirked.
“I never should have gotten you back into that,” Blake pouted playfully.
He turned around under the water before handing a bar of soap to Adam. Leaning against the front of the shower, the mage spread his legs, grinning over his shoulder as Adam stepped into the shower behind him.
“Okay, let’s get this show on the road,” Adam said, scrubbing Blake’s shoulders and back.
His hands stopped short of Blake’s butt, and the mage pouted at him again, his eyelids flicking.
“No, no touching. You can wash that part just fine without me,” Adam said firmly.
But the man still stepped forward, leaning into Blake as he kissed his mate gently. Their bodies met in a mix of warmth, and Blake melted into an embrace as he turned to give Adam access to his front. He took the soap from Adam, scrubbing the man’s back as they kissed.
Adam pulled back, his teeth tugging at Blake’s lower lip lightly.
“I love doing this,” he smiled at the mage. “I love being here with you, letting you take care of me like this.”
Blake felt his face burning as he turned his attentions to Adam’s chest. Letting his hands run over the man’s torso, the mage was sorely tempted to reach lower, to play with what he knew he wanted. But Blake forced himself to stay above Adam’s waist, finally setting the soap aside as he stepped out from under the water so Adam could rinse off.
“I enjoy it too,” he said quietly, leaning back as he watched his mate shower. “I always get people who think because I have a little side, I have to be babied. You don’t do that to me. And it’s nice to have that balance, to be adult and little when I need it.”
“It’s because I love you Blake. And I am learning to understand you. I never want to hurt you, and this is my way of showing you, you don’t have to be afraid around me. You’re my mate, and I promise, I will always protect you.”
Blake stepped forward again, pulling Adam into a tight embrace.
“I love you too.”
