aditus Plans for a new book, or maybe even a new series.
Aditus posted a blog entry in aditus' Road Blog
After finishing the King’s Mate series, I wrote short stories for the anthologies, prompts, and collaborations with Valkyrie and Cole Matthews, mixed with some poetry. A few months ago, however, I thought it is time to start a new book. Those who know me a little are probably aware of my fascination with vampires. They will play a decisive part in the new series. I’m currently writing chapter four. As I am a slow writer due to life and the fact that English is my second language, it takes me roughly a month, at least, to write a chapter if everything goes according to plan. I hope the Catburglar will be the first book in the Professions series. To cut a long story short, I hope I’ll have most of the book written around my GAnniversary in September, and I can post the first chapter then. This time, I won’t post as soon as a chapter is written, because life always happens when you don’t expect it. I think I bored you long enough now. Here is a short excerpt from the first chapter. Winter birthdays suck. Majorly. No pool parties in June. No barbequing with friends in July. No crackling bonfire at the beach in late August, drinking lots of cold beer, singing off-key to ancient metal ballads. I guess my summer-birthday-having brothers had had enough of my annual whining. They invited our closest friends and organized a beach party for me...in February. Which was why, on my twenty-fourth birthday, I was sitting beside the above-mentioned merrily-crackling bonfire, with a scarf around my neck, a hat on my head, trying to open a bag of chips clumsily with gloved hands. And because it was friggin’ cold or because of the many beers I had, I needed to pee very urgently. I got up to find a quiet place to water the seagrass and looked around. “I dare you to whip out that puny dick of yours where I can see it!” My brother’s girlfriend hid her eyes demonstratively behind both her hands. She might have had a little too much of the chardonnay. “You wouldn’t know what to do with this fine example of male beauty and virility,” I gestured at my crotch, bucking my hips suggestively for good measure, "if it hit you smack dab in the face!” Lin pretended to gag. “Ew! Nathan, help!” My brother instantly threw a beer can at me. “As if she’d look at your puny thing when she can have mine.” My so-called friends guffawed and cheered at his blunder. “Your puny thing?” Flipping them all off, I turned my back to the bonfire and switched my phone’s torchlight on to speed-stumble towards the dunes. I really, really needed to piss. Behind one of the beach huts, far enough away from Lin’s delicate eyes, I fumbled for my zipper. With all the bulky winter clothes in the way, I couldn’t reach the pull tab as quickly as I needed. “Fuck that shit!” Shoving my down jacket out of the way, I pulled one glove off with my teeth. A sharp crack from behind made me stop mid-motion, and my back stiffened when a cold shiver ran down my spine. “Lin?” I lifted my phone and searched around. Maybe scanning the place before I got my dick out would be a good idea. Just to avoid literally pissing off an unsuspecting critter with my most vulnerable body part out in the open. Right? Even if I had seen him, I wouldn’t have been quick or strong enough to escape his iron grip or fight him. Increasing pressure on my shoulders made me stagger forward, and then something gripped my chin and sniffed along the right side of my neck. I was either too panicked or too drunk to imagine what creature would do this. Then it struck. The searing pain instantly petrified me. It felt as if acid had been injected directly into my vein and pulsed through my body from the point of impact directly to my brain. All I heard then was greedy gulping; moments later my vision blurred till darkness swept over me. “Konstantin said he left him near the lifeboat.” I sat up groggily, peeling my face off a slimy, wooden surface. Lifeboat. I wiped away some grains of sand and pieces of seaweed and grimaced when too many sensations suddenly bombarded me. Someone nearby was talking too loudly; the pungent stench of rotten fish and wet wood overwhelmed me. I inhaled more cautiously. I stank of rotten fish—and stale beer. My butt felt cold and damp. In the distance, the surf roared deafeningly against the cliffs. When I blinked my eyes open, the horizon was lined with the blue hues of early dawn. Clumsily, I braced myself against something slick and squidgy, trying to stand, but my legs instantly gave out. I felt like shit. Worse than the amount of alcohol I usually drank justified. I never drink hard liquor. My first thought was that the others must have spiked my beer. Sand crunched. A huge, dark figure leaned over me. “I found him!” Before I could react, a dark, thick cloth was thrown over me. I heard a muffled voice. “We have to hurry, Doc; sunrise is close.” They grabbed me, wrapped me up even tighter, and threw me over their shoulder in a fireman carry, as if I weighed nothing, and ran. -

Howdy Y'all. Since the author is a little shy about starting his own discussion about the story in the forum, I'd thought I'd jump in and do it. Anyone else interested in discussing the Pack's adventures? Carlos

This story is one I am writing for a group called Wednesday Briefs. Each week one of the group sends out prompts and we all write something around the prompt/s that we have chosen. This story has a life of it's own as each chapter depends on what prompts I am sent. it is based on two psychics called Jaydon and Craig. It is written in the first person from Jaydons POV. Jaydon has been in love with Craig for years but fears ruining their friendship by telling him. So he has not even told him he's gay. Meanwhile a dangerous psychic is on the loose and Jaydon must catch him. I would welcome all comments and suggestions for this story. I will always think over any ideas people have and if they fit the story line and the prompts I may even use them. most of all please just have fun.

I'm revising aka almost re-writing one of my older stories. The posting will definitely start mid October. Prologue I hurry through the freezing cold to the heavy church doors. It smells like snow. The cast iron doorknob sucks the warmth from my hand, makes me wish for of a mug of mulled wine. Shit. The damn door doesn’t move one bit. I have to push with the force of my full bodyweight before the wooden contraption gives way. Promptly I hear an amused chuckle from behind. “What’s so funny?” “Nothing, love.” Nothing my ass. The warmth from the inside of the incense-smoky church hits me and I almost gag. I hate incense. There are only a few free seats left. When I feel a tug at my coat sleeve, I follow to our pew in the right aisle. I have a bad feeling. We shouldn’t have come here tonight. "We’re not late, a real Christmas Miracle," I grumble. He makes a noise between a grunt and a laugh. "We should have stayed home. I've had a bad feeling for days, but you insisted we come here. Losing our face... That's bullshit and you know it, but who ever listens to me?" I'm whining. I just should shut up. We sit down and I glance around the church. Nothing has changed since last year, or ten years before, or…: the large Christmas tree behind the altar, the choir getting ready for the opening song, most likely 'Oh Little Town of Bethlehem', the band retuning their instruments… “Somehow I expected that it would be different this year,” I mutter to myself. From the corner of my eye, I can see he is looking, probably with a lifted eyebrow. “Why would you think that?” Of course he heard that; superior hearing skill and all I guess. “Dunno… maybe because I am different?” “Well, you were right then.” Pleased with himself he leans back and crosses his long legs at the ankles. “Something has changed this year.” Smartass. I roll my eyes. That’s just so typical of him. Tipping my head back, I start counting the ceiling beams. I don’t know how often I’ve done this in the past years. It has always been oddly soothing, not tonight though. I shiver although the church is well heated and my stomach is churning with the little I ate. I can feel eyes on me. I need to get out of here. He grabs my hand and entwines our fingers. "It's okay Noël. Everything will be fine." I wish I had his confidence. There is a real chance that tomorrow the man beside me will be dead. Or I will. Or somebody could try... I stare at the Christmas tree behind the altar, its many lights get blurry, my mind slips back and I'm on the bus again, where my life took a turn. If for better or for worse has yet to be decided. So, what do you think? I know this isn't the right place to ask, but I still need a beta-reader...

I am one of those writers who enjoys a challenge. Whether it is a new world to create, a love story, a mystery, or just breathing new life into an old tale. This story came about when I actually asked in the chat room about what fairy tale I should take on and recreate. I'd already done Snow White for a prompt by Lugh, and also taken a twisted take on Sleeping Beauty for a prompt I had created. Elezbed suggested I take a look at Little Red Riding Hood. So I now had the bare bones for my work. Welcome to the world that Dama and her family lives in. In the dark future the world is no longer controlled by humanity. The creatures that were once thought of as imaginary are proven to be real. In fact, not only are they real they now rule the world and are not sweet and kind about it. This world is dark and there are elements of it every child is never told of until after they have become an adult. Vampires, Werewolves, and Elves control the world. What they command will happen without question. To disobey is a death sentence. Here children had better listen to their parents for if they don't they will end up dead or worse. Chapter one is now up in this four chapter story. If you have any comments or questions feel free to post them here or on the story pages. Thank you.
