Whew!

Despite all the 'best' wishes we got the results of the ultra sound and they were . . . .

First a little background. As is common knowledge, I am a prosecutor. For some unknown reason, my boss decided to pull a power move and prove she can make me do things, because - God if that isn't good practice for being a parent, I don't know what is. Basically a co-worker had a trial last week that was continued to this week, which she was scheduled to do intake - a crappy job to be sure. Not only did I have the conference call today, I have a doctors appointment tomorrow at 3 that I made 6 months ago that I couldn't miss AND I leave for two weeks of vacation on Friday, In short it would be really hard for me to take this trial - so I offered to let my co-worker keep the case and I would do intake. Nope, the boss wanted me to take the case - no reason given, just I needed to take it. [Actually the reason given was the co-worker didn't want to keep it and general practice was if it got changed to someone's intake week, they transfer the trial to someone on trial week - however, my co-worker asked to keep it and was told no, they would give it to me, so basically the supervisor lied to me.] Like I said, this was her proving she could make me take a case she wanted me to take - proving to who I have no idea.

But I digress - so rather than fuss, I asked the Judge if we could take an early lunch break from the trial so I could be on the conference call. She said no. Honestly, I wasn't mad at the Judge, it was my boss who was being ridiculous not the Judge. But fate intervened and the defendant pled guilty. So despite the boss's best effort, I made it back in the office in time for the call.

So since, I just wasted 250 words or so to drag this out - we got to hear the heartbeat. Not beats but beat - one baby, doing very well, doctor is pleased, Mike is relieved and I am thrilled.

Sorry to anyone who bet on multiple babies, but it is just one. Now before you ask what people in my office all asked, yes he looked around, no, he didn't miss one. Since he knows where he put the embryos, he knows where to look. Just one. Whew!!

On a slightly different note - OMG how freaking loud and strong the baby's heart beat was. I was so surprised by that. I mean this baby is supposedly the size of a dime or less and using the ultrasound they could let us hear the heartbeat. It was very cool. Needless to say I was rather pleased the rest of the day. Not too much longer until we find out the sex.

So there you have it, baby update complete - the doctor said now we heard the heartbeat, it is officially a baby. WOO HOO!!!!. Father hood here I come, ready or not.

I'm very glad that you have a healthy, strong heartbeating, baby on board. That's great! And as I shudder at the thought of having twins, for your sake, I'm also glad you get a singlet. No matter what, Congrats Daddy Andy!! Can't wait for the gender update.

LOL, Cia, having one, I shudder at the thought of two at once as well, haha. :P

You're gonna be an awesome Papa, Andy. Ohhhh, yeah, boy or girl, that will be interesting....

In my limited experience (all the neighbors have kids) it sounds like boys have been the easier babies. :P

Girls easier later though, haha.

That is so cool you got to hear the heart beat, I'd say you and Mike were so relieved when it happened. I hope things run smoothly and ye have a happy helthy baby, no matter the sex. Also in rel to anyta's statement, "girls get easier in later life", I hope she never meets my sister lol otherwise her belief would be gone out the window :P.. Seriously though, congrats and all the best :D

LOL, I DID have a disclaimer up there, peeps: From What I've Heard.... (my limited experience)

Plus, I actually was the easiest thing as a teen. :P I got good grades and I read in my spare time. I never asked for money, did the housework, looked after my siblings...

And then ran away.. to Uni as soon as I could (just turned 17) LOL.

Easypeasy.

But if I could go back, I think I would have stirred more... hahaha.

Congratulations hun. There is nothing like hearing the sound of your baby's heart beat, especially for the first time. You are going to be such a great father.

Congratulations! I think one is a good number to start with. No need in appearing greedy.

I've always heard that boys are easier to raise because they are more independent. No way for me to know for sure...all my children and grandchildren are male.

Congratulations on the guilty plea. You had several victories that day. I'm sure you will teach your baby, boy or girl, to play well with others and not be a tyrant when in authority.

Congratulations Andy! I'm sure one is probably enough for now. I mean, Mike already has you to take care of :lmao:

Hmmm... I've a girl and a boy. Barring small potty training differences I can say both of mine are pretty equal so far. I'm reserving judgement til teen years. A kid is a kid is a kid. They're all by turns sweet and annoying. They seem to know just when to pull out the big eye and awwww, aren't I adorable routine to keep you from smothering them. Evil little geniuses, I swear!

Thanks to all for the well wishes. Now in a mass address to you all, I apologize for taking so long to respond. Been rather busy lately.

Lugh: One is fine to start, we still are planning for a second a year or so after the first. we'll see

Sara: Very true, but as the doctor said, before we heard the heartbeat it was a number or a multi syllable word, once the heart is beating it is a baby :)

Cia: You get a twofer here - yes I am pleased too. Whatever was good but I think one is better. Mike 'says' he would have been okay with twins but it took him a day to get to be okay. One is definitely better. We - or at least me - are hoping for a boy - since we all know everyone says all they want is a healthy happy baby - blah blah blah. I care about that too, but IF i got a choice, I want a boy - too late now, it is what it is right? I think we find out in 9 weeks or so.

Anyta: The whole boy girl debate comes down to one thing at the end - Justin Beiber - or the Justin Beiber of the day. IF we have a girl, I have to take her to the concert - who wants THAT torture??? :P

Chase: Thanks - you were actually the first one to tell me to blog about it, so I give you your props here and now. :worship:

Stu: I see your folks never taught you not to tell fibs :P

Frosty: Thanks - but I am going to guess your mum has nothing but good things to say about you these days :)

Shane: Thanks - but 'sister?' Do you only have one? or is there one in specific you wish to torture Anyta with??? :P

Deve: Thanks - and the answer is VERY :)

Nephy: People say that and I used to think, yeah yeah yeah, whatever, a cold beer, a good ball game and hot pizza is just as good - well that was then, now I agree. I feel so possessive already - poor kid.

Mike: Thanks and of course congrats on grandson number 4 again :)

Eric: Share?? as in who gets to change the diapers? or who has to go to the Beiber concert? or who has to get up at 3:00 a.m. I don't think share is going to be a problem, seems like who is going to DO might be :P

Vic: Oh how backward you have that. Those who know us both have said it is good we didn't have twins because raise three kids would kill me :)

Method: Thanks I am majorily excited still. I know the time will fly by and at the end I will wish for more, but I just want to see and hold it now. Patience I know.

Wow ... what a day or a week for you ... still sometimes you have to look at the case situation from the supervisors POV.

Like does it look good to have been switching lawyers on a case or someone has who would get the job done.

However, as you said fate intervene ... so the case wasn't as long as it should be.

Congratulations to be astonish to how the beauty of life is born ... I hope you've been keeping ... sort of a parent's journal of the experience. Perhaps one day your child will get to read it when they are old enough ... to understand ... what it was like to before they where born to when they got to read the journal.

Good blog ... life found a way ... and you made it to be there for your future child.

Lots of baby steps - not very simple - but very challenging - compared to what we see on TV.

Thanks for putting out the experience of what it's like to be a daddy.
