Some thoughts about the Boston Marathon Bombing

As a Bostonian, I am extremely sad and angry. Sad at the three lives extinguished so far and over a hundred, whose lives will never be the same. Angry that some one could act like this and kill so indiscriminately.

It felt like 9/11 happened again, but it was much closer to home. I've walked these routes in years past, I've traveled down Newbury street like most twenty-somethings in my town looking to take in the newest restaurants and fashions. I remember eating lunch on the steps of the library, when my elementary school had fields trips there. While I felt for New York during 9/11, it wasn't the same as what I feel now, there is no words in the language of men that can describe it.

Today, as I headed into work, random checks by police happened in the train stations and major bus routes. People were glancing around in fear and anxiety, a tragic reminder of what we as a city lost.

Our innocence will never return, our carefree childhoods will never be repeated. The world has moved on in a tragic and darker direction.

It was too shocking, but the stories of Bostonians taking in visitors, and rushing to help were inspiring too.  My only suggestion is don't let fear change you or the terrorists win.  My prayers are for all the victims and their families and friends.

There may be some evil people in this world, but they are still greatly outnumbered by the good guys.

This makes me really sad to hear. I'm so sorry you and the people of Boston have to go through this, but I am also glad to hear of all the kindness of strangers towards each other in a hard time like this.

Sadly terrorist attacks like this are a reality for everyone living in "target countries", but the fact is the individual risk of being killed or injured in a terrorist attack is virtually non-existent compared to other causes. Daddy and Joann are right - continue living your life as you've always done. Life will get back to normal - the human spirit is very resilient. The only change everyone needs to make is to be more vigilant, be more aware of what's going on around you. "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance" has a new meaning in our modern world.
