Where Have They All Gone?

Warning: This is a message that may offend middle-aged to near elderly members. No offense.

I just want to know where all the teens arehere? You know? Practically all my friends here are between 40 and 60 and that's awfully disturbing. They're great but they'd be better if they stayed a teenager. I know a couple in their twenties and I know ConnorWhite who is 17 (hurrah) but that's like the only teen here I know.

If you are teen near the age of 16 or know of anyone who fits this category, comment below.

Btw, thanks all for your thoughts and opinions on the 'Gay for a week' entry. You'll be interested to know that only one of those comments are being approved my me.

Ha! Kidding! See you all in my next entry

I first joined this site when I was 17. Back then there were a lot more active teenage members between 15-19, but most of us are in our early and mid 20s now. The 'Gay Teens' forum was a lot more active back then too, but now it seems like it has just sort of slid into the abyss. GA also hasn't seemed to have attracted a group of active teenage members to replace the ones like me who aged out over the years.

No offense taken, my friend. I was also a teenager but, in those times we could not have spoken as freely as you can now. Perhaps that is why there are so many of us oldies speaking our mind now, with much less fear.

Darn! I missed this by a month! Alas no longer a teenager, but don't discount us "elderly" twenty year olds :)

As Tet said, the teenagers that were here back around 2008-2009 grew up and entered their 20's as teenagers tend to do. The Gay Teen forum was much more active back then- I was in my early 20's and I was part of it to offer advice to kids who were going off to college.

Non-hetero, non-cis is now closer to mainstream than ever before. That normalization minimizes gay ghettos, gay bars, and honestly, gay fiction. If a teenager can go hang out with friends irl and be himself, that's going to be more of an attraction.

Gay Teen resources abound on the net now, which wasn't the case in years past. Plus, thankfully, our society has become a bit more accepting of different orientations.

Please, don't take my comments to mean I believe it's easier for gay youth today. The internal struggles are still just as difficult now as they were before. Parents are still shocked in many cases when they find out their child is gay.

I believe it's also partly that teens I've met recently, with you, Jordan, and a couple others are less vocal. They tend to want to take the 'easy' way and just read without comment. I may be totally off base there, but it's been my experience. PLEASE, Prove me wrong!
