Featured Story: Napowrimo

Whoops! I forgot that I was supposed to Renee this week and was sidelined by a migraine, so this featured review is a bit late... which just goes to show that, unlike Mikiesboy, I could never remember to do NaPoWriMo. Unsure of what that is? Check out the review below by Aditus and then go check it out!!

Poetry. I thought I would put the word right into the first line, in case you’d rather leave, thinking something along the lines of ‘Nah, poetry is not my thing’. I dare you to read further!

April is National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo): Thirty poems in thirty days. According to the author, his first thoughts were: Mental! NO WAY am I going to try it (too much pressure).

Luckily, he had nothing else to do (his words), and wrote a poem for Friday April 1, and then, while he was at it, for the other twenty-nine days too.

Are you still here? Good!

AC Benus said: You have metre beating in your blood, and poetic insight flashing behind your vision.

I can’t agree more and could go on and on about syllable count, rhythm, rhyme and many other formal poetry characteristics and forms, which Mikiesboy executes well but are just a means to an end to make us feel. He is a natural poet who concentrates of the essence of things—sometimes with brutal honesty. I will never forget Meat: Short— and so harsh it hurts. Or Baker Boy, which makes me smile each time I read it. For me, this collection of poems is a reflection of heartfelt loneliness and hope, grief and thankfulness, severity and playfulness, in other word(s): Life concentrated in small packages.

So, even if you normally don’t read poetry, give it a try. If you do, but somehow missed this, I hope I made you curious. And if you already read it—why not do it again?

What a wonderful review, Addy! Tim, (Tim M), I keep telling you, Addy's gonna take your job away from you! :P

LOL, I rather see it as being part of the team and taking pressure of me. But of course there may be a tiny bit of competition too.

Wow. Wow, i'm nearly speechless. Adi, thank you. What a wonderful thing. I am very humbled by your review and grateful, too. Cia, thank you so much for posting this.

I came to GA, looking for some good Gay themed works. I read a lot and finally joined just over a year ago. I posted some poems that I'd written when i was street kid. Gary (Headstall) became (unbeknownst to me) my cheeriing section, encouraging people to read my poems.

AC Benus volunteered to edit and read for me. I was just a lump of humble!

Frankly I was scared to death of all these authors, popular people. Something i've never been.  And then suddenly I had people reading my work and then new friends. I've not looked back really. Okay I take a glance now and again. But I'm not going anywhere.

Thank you .. all of you who'd held my hand, read my words, encouraged me when i wanted to quit...love you all.

It was my pleasure, tim. And easy enough. I love your work, the different aspects of life you seem to catch so easily. (I know it's not.) See you next year: NoPoWriMo 2017. I'm in.

Well, now I can change my original post to read: If anyone hasn't read Tim's poetry month challenge, you should do it. It's a wonderful collection of poems that will make you cry, laugh, chuckle, cry, think, cry...did I mention some will make you cry?

You did a great job, Tim! :)

Aw, thanks so much Lisa .. I have trouble reading the ones about Ripley still. So I dont go there much. But I'm glad you enjoyed them.

What a wonderful review for a such a deserving poet.  tim, you know poetry isn't my favourite genre, but one thing I will say about your work is that it always makes me feel.  I may get upset. teary, angry, or laugh until I cry, but everything you write elicits a reaction in me, even if I don't understand, or can't appreciate a poem's technical aspects.

Keep telling ya ... you just need to read.. let me/us worry about the 'feet' and meter and all of that stuff. It's the poet's job to get his point across ..make it work for his/her readers no matter what form is used. Thank you for all of your support LL!!

Tim's work hits you in all the feels. You never really know what emotion will be wrung from your soul when you read Tim. The only thing you know for sure is that you will feel.  There is a raw anger evident in some.  Heartbreak in many.  And LOVE, so much LOVE.  His love of his mother, his pup, and his guy.

I've become a real fan, and I'm glad he's here.

Molly ... thanks.. gosh you're so kind to me and you know why.. Thanks.. I'm glad you're here too

Congratulations tim. :D I know its not an easy task to write a poem each day, as myself participated for it. Sometimes its on the last minutes and have to write it without sleep until the last sec. I know you worked hard, and you deserve this got featuring.

I'd read some already and will recheck if I had missed to give a review or a like. :) Congratulations once again... :D

Nice review Adi...
