If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans (Woody Allen). That came to mind when I first read The Life of Seeon.

Seeon is the fifth and youngest child of the High King of Toleran Maon. Even though he is a prince, he’ll never wear the crown. He’s given the choice to become either a eunuch or a priest. His first plan is to become a priest. When he‘s fifteen, disaster strikes in multiple ways, and the plan changes. Toleran is about to lose the war against the Horeun empire, and Seeon’s father reintroduces a centuries-old custom to gain allies. Seeon is to become Ma’ Nee, which means he’ll lose all societal standings as a male. To end the war, the king decides that Seeon has to marry Horeun’s youngest prince, Mika, and be his second wife.

After Seeon arrives in Horeun, he learns how different the two countries are. The plan changes again, and this time, a God smiles.

The story can make its reader sad, disgusted, hopeful, happy, and everything in between. Unfortunately, there won’t be a second part, even when you desperately want to know more about this exciting world, its people, and gods, as comicfan (Wayne) passed much too early in the summer of 2021. You have to weave the story further in your head.

Well, if that doesn't want to make you read this story, don't know what would.

I just read this story based on the above review. Which was well written, intriguing, and offered a delightful tale where I'd feel sad, disgusted, hopeful, happy and everything in between.

I wish the story I just read matched the review. Read the review, it's better.

I miss Wayne and the debates we got into when I edited some of his stories.   He really had a knack for bringing characters to life.  Thank you, @Aditus for a great review of a great story.
