rec Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 On my Author page I have posted an excerpt from Palouse--for comment. The excerpt is set to music, and the YouTube URL is in the footnote. The music is there to listen to as the excerpt is read. I'm curious to know if what I have done is at all working. [i'll revise the writing somewhat as I continue work on the novel, but any suggestions there are welcome.] rec
steph Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 wow, rec! that's kinda cool! couple things a noticed... 1) the footnote is distacting, having to leave the text. if you keep the footnote, definitely put an anchor to bring the reader back to the right place in the story. 2) personally, I would embed the music directly into the story as a wav file or whatever. or you could even embed the YouTube video directly into the page. otherwise, you want to format the link so that it opens in a new window, so that it doesn't replace the story. 3) lastly, the only other thing that would be way cool, would be to write the text so that it flows with the same cadence as the music. my mind kept trying to force the words to match the music. the music definitely allowed me to better imagine the scene! way cool!

Steph, Some terrific ideas. I'm not sure how to make a wave file from a YouTube url or a CD but that can be solved, assuming no copyright problems. Then, I could put a button or some buttons in the text. And maybe the way to handle the pacing issue, which I sensed in th second half of the minuet is to have four buttons for each of the parts of the minuet and the story--that is, expand on your idea of wav files with separate ones for the separate parts of the piece. Thanks. rec
