well... spin-offs never get so popular as the original story; moreover I seriously doubt Mark would write another story on the same topic. It's take it or leave it. There won't be any MaC Calvert.

That's probably true.

I heard from a friend in Moscow that they also have snow today. It seems to me those polar-circle countries resemble one another...

Poor little canadians.... (that's a country near alaska, I have heard). perhaps something special to keep nice good-looking canadian boys warm... in their igloos. snigger. Mark, does your igloo have the central heating?

in my town, we can expect snow in december, I think.

Well it still hasn't snowed to the point if it actually staying around yet....so i'm glad for that. but it's dark at 6:30.

anyway i think Calvert should go to Travers....somehow....hehehe and comon guys who cares how young Granger is, he has the mob of England, he could Easily do some unbeatable feet, and come up with a solution and be promoted rather quickly (a year). It's Fictional, but if Granger did he'd be the First, people would hate him, some would like him, either way, i think Granger Will Make Admiral or Flag Captain(lord hoods job??)(unless that's what he is now)

Mark, it will be a long time until then. He's low on the totem pole. It could take 20 years or more.

That would be a good time estimate.

You still didn't get my drift. 1 point i must stress! WHO CARES!!thumbsupsmileyanim.gifblink.gif

The Fact is this is Mark A's Story he can do whatever he wants.....make him captain of the Flying Dutchman Perhaps?? So far no Legends of ol have Crossed our paths....maybe Granger will walk into them.....frankly i wouldn't mind pirates to be more involved.

Anyway to my point Granger could get Admiralty very Quickly Because of the mobnuke.gif .....if not that....well then maybe a captain of a 96-gun Shipinnocent.gif , With Travers as acting Gunmanwub.gif . Who knows Mark can take this anywhere i'm curriousblink.gif . Lets just not rule out the option of a FIRST EVER 22ish year old Admiralking.gif .....Damn....old people these days....don't believe in the young.devilsmiley.gif2handed.gif

Maybe the British lose alot of ships all of a sudden due to a massive french assult??

This is approaching Spider Monkeys from Space attacking...tongue.gif

The deal with being promoted to admiral" isn't an option. The ONLY way to get there was to go up the Captain's List, and then get promoted when your you reached the top. There have been instances where people were rushed (Nelson, for example) but he was close to the top of the list anyway, so they just promoted a few extra captains so he could get his flag. There were no merit promotions. Did not happen.

Alright well if you say it's not going to well then it won't but that's freeking stupid. I disagree.mad.gif

Anyway. So Granger is a Captain of a Frig. What's next for Promotions.....Switching Back and forth Between Frigs??? or as a Captian is Any Ship available to him now?? Or still no? I really am not attune to the Bel yet as we duno the problems......damn untied strings....watch Pirates of The Carribean, there's 10000000 loose untied strings. Although, even the Dog had a Role. Hahahthumbsupsmileyanim.gifthumbsupsmileyanim.gif BTW why then in Pirates of the Caribbean is Commodor...whatever his face is...look like he's in ....never mind.....even commodor is in your 40's... Just talked myself into that one -.-**

Anyway untill we know the problems (hopfully not Buggery on the last captain :S)

Post, post Post a Chapter gently down the Stream, marily marily marily, i only hope to dream wub.gifread.gif

Are you very well saying that you are ready for it to end?? i cannot believe it....CAP series is like 6 books right now while Bridgmont is only 3? i think. It definatly cannot end. But i forsee that this will be the LAST book with granger anyway....and Frankly i couldn't think of any character we've met that i'd like to see take character #1, unless its maybe one of Grangers children....maybe they'll be developed more? maybeone of his sons will catch him with granger....who knows but IT CANNOT END!! i'll be so mad. if it ends well....CAP is all there is left..:(

Well....Bodily fluids was a disturbing ending line.

Either way i'm glad caroline is technically O.K with it. She still could ruin his life, take his money, and everything now that he admited it to her. I must say though i enjoyed this chapter alot, no matter the...very shortness of it. I wanted Caroline to meet Calvert again now....Arg....mark...how long till the sequal....i realise bloodlines will continue as usual but i hope we'll have another granger story within two or three weeks. if not sooner.

I'll miss you MAC :'( So good....so...sooo.good......im going to go cry as i go to sleep now....

but either way

peace out Granger and Caroline for a while.

Well....Bodily fluids was a disturbing ending line.

"I will try to make it as pleasant as possible," he said, grinning at her, and then he made love to her yet again, sealing their informal agreement with bodily fluids

I to find this a "odd" line to end this story on, I expected something a bit romantic considering the circumstances -

something like - "I will try to make it as pleasant as possible," he said, grinning at her, and then he made love to her yet again, sealing their informal agreement with the emotional and physical show of love that he knew Caroline needed.

No? ok ..... still loved it! MORE MORE MORE!!

I think this was first not screwed-up ending of a Bridgemont saga story... The previous ones either didn't end properly or left Granger desperate with a loss of Travers. I was beginning to worry if Mark can make a happy ending like he does in CAP series. ;-D

But, as we've seen so many times, a happy ending of one doesn't mean the situation won't be totally reversed in the other. ;) And the existence of the poll on Calvert is still disturbing... :/ Though everyone thinks Granger's too young (in our measurement of age) I think he should start settling down, with a wife and a limited harem of lovers.

And I'm still against "Calvert should get his own ship." He doesn't want one. Now that they have their blessing from Caroline, Granger should train Calvert in confidentiality, not to kick him off because he could out them (and have them hung).

I felt a bit sorry for Caroline in this chapter. It has to be hard to see her husband leave for so long at a time, and then only return for two weeks before he leaves again. The fact that he's confirmed his relationship with Calvert would make it that much worse. I thought she handled it as well as she could have.

Thanks for another amazing story, Mark! I'm excited to read the next great adventures of Granger and Calvert, although I'm sure Bloodlines will keep me happy in the meantime.

A good resolution to many issues raised.

I registered and made my first post in the thread dealing with the fate of Calvert because I thought it was a trick question. I was horrified with the poll initially leaning to a sentiment by readers that Calvert be "banished" -- either by promotion, reassignment, or whatever.

I thought that would have been a blunder of epic proportion by the author. As written in the story, Calvert is as much central to the story as Granger. Thus, I did not think Mark would do such a thing, based from what I read so far. Thus, my first post. I had a long list of reasons why I think Calvert would not be banished nor is it time to create a spin-off. However, I decided not to post these reasons in

Calvert: Should he stay or should he go?

because it would be almost next to impossible to second guess what the author might want to direct the course of this serial story. Instead, I only stated that Granger (through Mark's creativity as a writer) will find a way to keep Calvert. I have a feeling also that he may find a way to keep many of his men. However, I just did not know how he would have done so because I am not familiar with the British navy nor have any clue (before the previous post) of his next ship and its status to provide a soltion to his retaining Calvert. Moreover, it would be so blatant and rather very indiscrete and suspicious if it was only Calvert and just a few of his crew that he would selected by Granger for his new ship.

The resolution to the above, and a very masterful one, was provided in the final chapter -- based on the revelations regarding the events and situation of the frigate.

In regard other issues, the words of Caroline:

"It is about love and commitment."

and I might add the implied themes in the story -- loyalty not only to one's country but also to those who helped you -- are the overeaching themes that make the serial story compelling and worth reading. Not the sluttiness of Granger, as many readers seem to suggest to become the driving force of the serial story.

In the final chapter, it was love and devotion that made Caroline be more realistic, at the same time, in evaluating her relationship with Granger. The same was true with Granger.

Love and loving someone is not to transform someone to our ideals of what the person should be but more to measure them, if they are worth our love and devotion; not only because of the good in them, but also the acceptance of those in their character that we could not change. All we can hope for is to become an instrument to help those we love and care for deeply to achieve the best of what their potential could be.

Focusing with these themes, there are so many ways to keep this serial going on. There are so many revelations in previous stories and this episode in the series that can be explored (i.e., to be resolved) further to continue with a "neverending story".

There are just episodic endings, as was done here.

A masterful ending to this story, Mark! :worship::worship:

I loved this exchange between Spencer and Granger:

I think it was a good ending. The last line wasn't the best, but I don't expect perfection. And guys, the issue of Calvert was never an easy one to resolve. I think he's going to end up staying. The poll is definitely favoring such. I hear some complaints, but it is a very special circumstance. While the decision should ultimately be Mark's, it doesn't hurt for him to have his readers' opinions on the matter.
