I think that after 3 short weeks, I've discovered that which is the bane of GA.

I've read so many stories on GA, and enjoyed all of them. The worst of this experience is that the stories I enjoy the most.........just end suddenly. No ceremony, no celebration - they just END.

I know that there's the promise of continuing the exciting stories featuring the likes of Cody, Aiden, Rory, Joe, Steph, Owen, Zach, Lucien, Ben, and Seth, along with too many other interesting and enticing characters that just abound here on GA.

It's frustrating to say the least. After that, I'm just expected to wait until "the next chapter". <SIGH> I don't have to like it, but it seems that is the way it is when you're dealing with aspiring authors.

If the frustration is too much to bear, you could do what some do and only read completed stories.

Many of the aspiring authors on GA have finished series.

It's a trade off. Some authors wait until they've finished a story before they start to post, but that may mean waiting a long time between stories. Others will start posting while the story is incomplete, but that means the reader runs the risk of the story not being completed.

Most of the authors here will finish what they start, but real life can interfere with that process. As readers, we just have to accept that that happens from time to time.

It is one feature that I do love about GA, is that on the Hosted Author page listings of their stories, they show which ones are completed.

I recently finished the introduction of my first story for GA, and debated at length whether I should start posting it now or only after I had finished at least several chapters.

After reading the responses here, and some private messages, I decided to view the "Bane" in an alternate light.

Completed writings I can refer to as movies, with credits and everything like that.

"In progress" books, I'll just view as cliffhangers on a television series.

BUT, there are lots of 'em. Sorta like "stay tuned for next weeks show......"

The only story I have left unfinished is Hubble Bubble and I made no secret of the fact that it was an experiment and might never go any further. It has come to a natural end though so I don't think that's too much of a problem. I might go back to it and might not but as for all the rest of my stories they are definately going to get finished and I try to post at least one or two chapters, although not necesarily of the same story, a week. So I hope I don't dissappoint.

I've only left one story incomplete. It was my first attempt, a somewhat autobiographical venture, but I stopped when I realized I really didn't want to relive my past. Everything else so far has been completed. Like Nephy, I try to post a chapter or two a week, maybe more.biggrin.gif

I write short stories. I mean that literally they are short and I still have trouble finishing them. Maybe a few I could label finished even though I haven't. The stories are unfinished for the reader but also for me the 'writer'. Maybe that's because life is often left unfinished. I simply write where the words take me. A member here recently posted a new chapter for his story on GA which I really like, after a very long wait. I was so happy to see this. For me the reader and for him the writer. His story is well worth the wait.

But as authors, doesn't it excite you to no end that you've written something so well, imbued characters with traits so real, so complete, and made the story so compelling? ....with gay sex scenes that are not pornographic, but real, unabashed, and essential to the story?

Those are the traits that keep us reading folks hanging on, agonizing in the wait for the next chapters.

Check out this story. The Arrangement by DanDevDrew. If you haven't already. I don't care that it is in progress. Yes I get excited. And this story does it. And yes I appreciate being read, whether by a reader or just a really great guy.

Good things take time, some authors have stories that have been going for 10 years+ but it's necessary to tell the story to it's potential. I'm just happy that other authors choose to share these stories which are highlighted by their own personal experience and romance. Remember that writing is a part of the author and it is a process and although we want the finished product in front of us as soon as possible. This isn't always possible.

Oh yes. To have a review or someone talk about a story I've written or discuss a character as if they are real (which they are for me) is a thrill like no other. It is still a surprise that people like to read what I have written and I hope it always will be :)
