Thank you, Cia! I'm always wanting to try a new angle, and I believe strongly that I am succeeding with this story. I intend to make this one longer than any other I have written. I can also let everyone know that I am working ahead on this one. In other words the next chapter is already written. There's not going to be a set posting schedule, but I can say that there will be at least one chapter a week, sometimes more. I look forward to hearing more feedback. You never know. You might just inspire me to throw in a monkey wrench or two.

If by old story, you mean Dark Earth, I will get back to at some point. It is one of my favorites to write. As for future chapters of The Sorcerous Prince, there are several more that are completely ready. A few others I'm still waiting on from Lugh. Anyway, there should be another chapter out fairly soon. I have to make sure I stay well ahead. :)

He's a cutie ;) Now where's a pic of Konstantin??? LOL Chapter 2 was great. You introduced Mihai's daily life, several new characters, explained some more of the powers and have several great scenes. I really liked the story about Queen Orla :D You bring to life a very rich story, one with a varied cast of characters and a very interesting setting. It's in Texas but it's not really. I might, maybe, possibly consider visiting that hole if the magical world was really there. Well....probably not, it'd still be Texas ;) LOL, jk. It's a great story, I love it and can't wait for you to keep writing so I can learn more and more.

Yes, I love Queen Orla. Maybe one day, I'll have to go back and time to reveal more about her. She seems like a most intriguing character even to me. I will say that you have not heard the last of her influence in the series. Many powerful wizards and witches leave something behind that can aid future generations of their families. ;)

I did come across a good one for Konstantin. I'll have to see if I can find him again. He was really hot.

Hi Tim,

Much to say about this new work, so I might as well get to the point:

1. The story has a pleasantly refreshing twist. Let's face it when dealing with magic, sorcery, etc... so much of it has already been done in the past, so the trick is to tweak it in such a way that casts it in a different light. From the first 2 chapters you've posted I'm seeing that you're headed in a direction that's different enough to cause my interest and curiosity to grow.

2. There's actually an interesting blend of some things. You could have made Mihai just a wizard (sorcerer) or a prince... but you did both and that's a little different. It's that kind of difference that adds a deeper color to the story. (Shall we say a whiter shade of pale... forgive me). The fact that it takes place in Texas... but in an isolated area is another strong point. You throw a known geography into the mix, but also a different unknown area within that geography to give it some enhanced interest... very good.

3. I like the fact that you chose to go with a more modern day, rather then traditional old-school setting or some forgotten age. I also like those old-time venues, but it's always refreshing to see old themes in a completely different... (read modern)... setting, so for this work I welcome it.

4. The high school setting is also fun... normal teen things, but again with some abnormal twists with magic being a part of it.

5. Your initial plot hook of Mihai not ascending yet is interest catching which is important. We now know that's going to be part of the story... so you've planted that seed in our head... but the fun part now will be seeing, how, when, where, why etc. that problem gets resolved. Very nice thought with that one.

6. I'm also liking the names of the characters... and the names of the places... it might seem like a small point but it shows imagination... and thought... if I'm going to read something I really want, no DEMAND that a writer shows me that they really care about what they're writing... why should I read it otherwise? Just small touches like well thought out names or decent plot elements tell me, the reader, "hey as the writer of this story I care enough about you to make this story interesting for you." So thanks for that.

7. This is a comment not about the story but more along the line of a suggestion... just because there are all those "rules" out there of how things should be within the Sci/Fan genre it doesn't say you can't break a few of them from time to time... that's what makes a story fun. Some of the best vampire stories (for example) broke the traditional rules a bit... or at least bent them. I get the impression you have the sense to do that some time... I encourage you.

8. You have a great editor... smart boy...

9. Keep writing... so I can keep reading... otherwise I'll get angry... ;-)

10. Nice first 2 chaps... I'll be looking for more.

Thanks Jamie! Coming from a fantastic author like yourself those are wonderful compliments. I chose a fairly modern setting (2002), because it felt right. This means there can be run-ins with actual political figures, and I like having that kind of flexibility while I also have this magical world. Texas was my chosen backdrop, because it's a beautiful state with lots of open space, so I figure it's a good place to hide a magical world. There will be more chapters to come. I have several more completely ready and a few others that are either with my editor or my final beta reader. And indeed I do have a wonderful editor. He's been with me since the beginning even when there's been changes in the beta readers of my team, and I am very happy with my new beta readers as well. They make a world of difference in helping me refine my stories. Again, thanks for the comments, Jamie. :D

Anyway Tiger i love it!!! How is it if one ascends in the underworld that they become evil? i don't get that at all...

I'll list the hierarchy from top to bottom.

Emperor/Empress- This is the ultimate ruler over the entire empire. The Empress has no husband, but when he was alive he had the title of Emperor because they were married, but the imperial bloodline was hers, so that makes the power ultimately hers. The Empress is also known as the Queen of Jevartus. It's ruled basically as a city/state and she is the ruler. There is also a Governor of Jevartus who rules in her absence. She can forfeit this title to the heir to the imperial throne if she so chooses.

Imperial Chancellors- They rule over multiple kingdoms. For example, while King Frederico is also King of the South, he's also Imperial Chancellor of the Americas. Normally, they are relatives of the Emperor/Empress.

Imperial family- The imperial family is the next step down. Imperial princes and princesses are the siblings, sons, daughters, nieces and nephews of the emperor/empress. Mihai is both an imperial prince and a royal prince. He's imperial because his father's side of the family is descended from the imperial line.

King/Queen- They rule over kingdoms but ultimately answer to the Empress. If I remember correctly (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong), the kings and queens of Europe were also under imperial rule when the Roman Empire was at its height of power.

Duke/Duchess- They rule over a duchy, which is an area of designation within a kingdom. They can be members of a royal family but are not always.

Prince/Princess- They are actually normally below Dukes and Duchesses but not always. In the UK for example, the Prince (or Princess) of Wales is higher than any Duke or Duchess and is the heir to the throne. In this series, I don't give them areas of designation, but in the UK they do have such designations. Normally, they become Dukes or Duchesses when they become adults.

Marquis/Marchioness- A step below Prince/Princess.

Count/Countess- This is the middle of the nobility. In the UK, Earl is the title for a man. Konstantin is a Count, because his father is a Duke, and he is the eldest. Not all have this title because of a parent being a duke/duchess, but it's common. A count's son is also likely to be a baron but again, not always.

Note: I am not using the title, Earl, because it reminds me of the worst hick name ever. I mean no offense to anyone named Earl. If that's your name, you have my deepest sympathy.

Viscount(ess)- A step below still. The eldest of a Marquis/Marchioness is likely to have this title.

Baron(ess)- This is the lowest title in the nobility.

Baronet(ess)- This is the highest of the gentry. Often, they are military figures.

Hereditary Knight- That is the middle of the gentry. Again, often associated with military.

Knight/Dame- This would be a title given by a monarch to honor the person. All but this one are hereditary titles. May or not be in the military.

There are some key differences. For example, if a king or queen is corrupt (along with all or most of his or her family), the Empress (or Emperor if a man is reigning) can remove that entire family from that particular throne. She's done so twice. That's one of those peripheral things that I know but haven't made it into the story itself and may or may not, though it's pretty obvious that this is the case in the kingdom that King Frederico rules. I just haven't gone into all the details except that Empress Guadalupe wanted him away from Hebalon but respected the fact that he was deserving of power even though he's a horny bastard who crosses too many lines with his dick. Also, there are different permission levels for portals (among other things) based on levels. I hope that answers the first part of your question.

As for the demons, there are 9 houses, one of which is denied a seat on the council. I'll cover that more in the story at some point. But for most intents and purposes at this point, there are 8 houses. The House of the Snake is in power right now, and the leader of it is the Demon King. The House of the Lizard is next to be in power followed by The House of the Spider on down. For the council, The House of the Cat normally does not have a vote unless the vote is directed at another house, in which case the house that the vote is about does not get a vote. The House of the Cat was the last to be in power, so it is now at the bottom. When the House of the Snake is out of power it will be last, and the next house in power will likely be the House of the Lizard (unless they fail their mission) or the House of the Spider (if the House of the Lizard fails).

Now more about voting: If there are two houses directly involved in what the vote is about, neither those two houses nor the House of the Cat get votes, because there must be an odd number of votes to prevent ties. Thus, if the House of the Cat and two other houses are excluded, it would mean a total of 5 votes or a 3-2 victory rather than 6 votes with 3-3 tie. I hope that makes sense.

why not seven??? that would work. then it would be a 4-3 split, and as 8 are present at the council it would work though i think it could be hard to challenge the monarchy of the deamon realm. Interesting Intersting!!! I like it!! :D

For a general vote, it is 4-3. I was just using an example. The number of votes is always odd even when multiple houses are not included in a given vote like the one in Chapter 5. The vote directly affected the Snakes and Lizards. Since that would leave 6 votes, it would be even. Thus, the lowest house (Cat) was also eliminated from voting. Edited by Tiger

omg that was amazing!!!! the pool Scene----Priceless but i don't really quite understand why he never jailed them before.....because he didn't ascend yet???

The fireworks or whatever i didn't get.......how the lite or shot them off anyway. It was magic. i get that......but there was special pile of wood of magical trees and they lite them up with wands??? i also didn't remember anything of wands before but maybe i just forgot between the time of chapter posting. I expect this is a story i will read over to figgure out the differences.

Anyway i love the Fabian and....(THE MAIN CHARACTER NAME HERE, Right now i'm thinking it's Micha....but i think that's linxe character....Sorry Tiger :( i hope u can forgive me....) *GOES AND LOOKS* Mihai.....F these are close names. hahah!!!!

Anyway loved it. There conected! Wonderful. Mihai loses a fairy and gains a boy so cool! :D

He hadn't jailed them before, because he didn't want people to think he was one to abuse his power. What really did it for him was Ted's comment. Ted was all like, "This is what I got!" It was a contest that Mihai was not about to let him win. Ascending has also given him a new confidence. He's not quite as bad as Pavel, but you'll notice that he doesn't take much shit from anyone.

Well as the most powerfull wizards as predicted in a prophecy i can see them getting big ego's and then i can also now see there might be an underworld trip....for maybe at least one of them....if not for the whole time for at least part of the time maybe. Especially if power goes to there head. Only problem with that if one of them clamed to be the Demon King or Underworld king at least or Underworld Emporer, he would destroy the demon Monarchy and they probably wouldn't like that! :o

Posted

Mihai keeps his ego in check most of the time. Moreover, it was more because he was pissed off and tired of the way they were treating him. In his mind, he always thought that he would show them once he ascended, and even when he did, they still showed him disrespect. So now, he figures they need to learn the hard way. You'll see another example in a few chapters of just how bad he can be when he's rubbing his powers in the faces of others. I like Mihai overall, but he is far from perfect. He has a bad temper and has his own way of dealing with things that can upset people. He's actually has flaws similar to my own.

I love that Mihai finally got some of his own back in this chapter. Keegan and his cronies getting what they deserved finally was great, especially when he quips back "Need I remind you that I can have you all executed on a whim?". I really do think they all forgot his status as a Prince because they looked down on him as inferior for so long because he didn't ascend when magical teens normally do. It may have helped him learn fortitude but I gleefully chuckled along when he got his own back against all 5. Pavel had another little snit and got some corporal punishment, YAY! Little stinker is wayyy to big for his britches. But he missed the awesome fireworks show. I loved how you set that up, it was very dramatic and easy to picture. THe scene between Fabian and Mihai and their creating the familiar bond was just right, great job!!!
